Review: The past lingers and that's emphasized in this documentary about the holocaust.

First things first: this documentary took me a whole day to finish and almost three days to download.

Shoah delivers a fine story-telling based on the reflection of the Polish survivors and even guilty masterminds. The whole documentary fleshes out the memory by bigger-than-life-like testimonies by those who experienced the Holocaust firsthand. This documentary tells a story that gives a distasteful image of the world's yester years. The voice of the documentary is a very powerful one. The music, the editing gives you a cathartic imagery that would definitely give you chills.

This is hands down a masterpiece. Every clip paints a painful image but definitely a splendid experience for any cinephile.

Review:

Gru (Steve Carell) and the minions are back! After lying low on villainous acts and stealing stuff, he settled in with his new family, the 3 girls he adopted in the first movie. This time around, Lucy (Kristen Wigg) joined the gang after being recruited as a sidekick from the Anti-Villain League. They came across a new comical yet dubious villain, El Macho, who kidnapped the minions and planned on turning them into evil purple monsters.

The movie as a whole is still as delightful as the first one. Impressive animation and, of course, the quirky comedy made the movie very adorable and entertaining for the family. It never fails to make me laugh whenever the minions would do some crazy and hilarious antics, such cuties! One of my favorites scenes is the part where Lucy introduced her Lipstick Taser to Gru, good times!

They say second film installments can make or break a franchise but I'd say this is a successful one! 'Tis definitely a feel good movie that people of all ages will surely love. And the OST is one of the bests! I actually thought of categorizing it as my Movie with best OST but I've another one in mind! He he

I liked this sequel because of the Minions. Stuart and Dave!! Hahaha, they are my favorite Minions as they, for me, are the funniest among all of them and funnier, even, when they are together The first movie has a better plot than this one but what made this film quite interesting, still, was because of the Minions and Agnes's cuteness.

The scene when the 'seemingly innocent' chicken suddenly attacked Mr. Gru and when it was dodging Agent Wilde's chops were really funny. I also loved the part when Stuart and Dave disguised as Evil Minions and they were mimicking the way they talk gibberishly, I really had a nice laugh. Also, when the Minions sang "I Swear/Underwear" and "YMCA" were very fun to watch even though the songs were sung in Minion language and I don't understand a thing . Actually I did... ♫Underwear♫

I'm anticipating the Minion movie and I thought it was going to be shown this year. I still hope that it will finally come to the big screen next year. I really love the Minions!!

Based on the novel by William Diehl, Primal Fear tells of how a hotshot defense attorney Martin Vail (Richard Gere) tries to defend Aaron Stampler (Edward Norton), accused of murdering a prominent archbishop, but as Vail digs deeper in the case, the characters involved are not what they seem.

The story delivers a punch and an interesting premise, plus it paces the story in a way that one does not get bored. It tells a simple tale, devoid of special effects and smoke and mirrors, yet it works because it is engaging and thought provoking.

The film also marks the film debut of Edward Norton, and what a debut it was as the role of Aaron Stampler was indeed an acting piece and he made it his very own. It was so that it catapulted him to A-list status and into the actor we know today.

In all, Primal Fear delivers an interesting premise added with topnotch acting, this film is definitely something to look forward to.

Former presidential bodyguard Mike Banning must save his commander-in-chief after terrorists seize control of the White House.

The movie wasn’t as bad as the critics say. I did enjoy watching it. Though I feel like Olympus Has Fallen’s strongest point happened during the early part of the film - with the antagonists’ first strike. The intensity level quickly died down and never got back to the same level. Everything that followed felt dull... okay, at best, considering the predictability of the storyline and the dialogue. Its success heavily relies on Butler’s portrayal and his believability as a Secret Service agent. And, of course, the presence of Morgan Freeman.

For those who want a better version, skip White House Down. Watch Jack Bauer in 24 instead.

Review: More than ten years ago, there was still the magic of the carpets, the lamps and piles of gold. Aladdin is a story of an anti-hero where a thief is catapulted to being a prince because of a twist of fate caused by a shake of genie and a magic lamp. For a young kid like me, Aladdin represent the aspirations of many to have that three wishes granted by a magic genie always at his beck and call. It represents the fantasy and the innocence of childhood. It also speaks about the magic of the unknown accompanied by the dreams of the young failed by the actions of adults.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones

Mehhhhhh... The plot was horrible... or was there even any plot? There were only very few scary scenes and to be honest, they were not even scary. From the 2nd installment of this series up to this one, I say they were all handi-craps LOL. The first one is still the least horrible among the rest of the succeeding films of the Paranormal Activity series.

In this movie, when the protagonists got the book of some sort of witchcraft, as usual, they got very curious and wanted to try and find out what that thing would do, and so they performed the ritual. When they did, and after the ritual, nothing really scary happened like WTF? That's it? Just a banging on the door? Ohrily?! It became more absurd when it was revealed that the one of the 3 friends was already marked before even being born. So that ritual they performed was just really for nothing and it was not even mentioned after that happened. The ending was even more horrible, uggghhhh...

Sooooooo.... No, the producers should not make another installment of the Paranormal Activity, in my honest opinion. It's like an insult to the horror genre and I love this genre the most.

Dear John strangely moved me in a subtle way that Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried delivered their lines. I thought their chemistry was great.For some weird reasons, their story or at least the "love" between them reminds me so much of the boys of Brokeback Mountain. It's almost Romeo and Juliet at some point or even Jack and Rose where they have the right love at the very wrong time. I also loved the fact that it deviate a little from the book origin. At least, somehow - in a not so far away distance, we could all conclude that they got together - at last. Somehow, it even surpassed the emotional heaviness of The Notebook.Overall, I'd say that it's my favorite Nicholas Sparks film adaptation - party because I can relate more with it.

Not as good as Monsters, Inc., but entertaining. It was nice to see where it all started for Mike and Sulley. Monsters University feels like your typical underdog story, and although there are a few twists here and there, you generally have an idea of where it's going. Despite being somewhat predictable though, it was still fun seeing it all play out because of the quirky characters. It has heart and humor, as expected from any Pixar film, and the gags were, more often than not, pretty solid. (My biggest laugh was when Squishy employed his scaring method during the final challenge.) Overall, it's a film both kids and adults can enjoy.

Review:

At first, I thought this movie is Mulan gone ginger but not. It's actually a far-cry to the famous Chinese fable. Well, the film has a female lead, a young girl that is, but she's not presented well to come out as strong and self reliant as Lady Fa.

C'mon, what's the point of showing her as a warrior figure in the first parts? She's good at archery, she's nimble and quick and she does some badass moves but she was not able to put them at use. I was rooting for her to kick some a$s! Ha ha

On the Positive side though, the film is one of those with smooth animations. It's not freaky almost-real kind of thing but enough to capture your attention. The original concept is admirable in a family-value kind of entertainment. Also, there are few characters that you will surely love and I'm referring to the triplets! Aren't they cute? Those rascal ones! Especially when they too turned into bears.

Overall, the movie is disappointing but generally entertaining. Pixar may have done some good movies in the past but this one surely ended up as one of the "not-so-good" ones like Monsters Inc., Cars 2, and Monsters University.

Review: This movie is definitely another post-modern mixture of legend, variety, comedy, drama, romance and original work from the notable and very inventive Baz Luhrmann. He is guilty of wrecking havoc pop culture's patronizing archives to build on an outrageous updated version of the rare Orpheus myth. Stupid and young, handsome writer and composer Christian is adopted and commissioned up by bohemians to put a show together about the very gregarious show theater with the title starring torch singer who doubles as a courtesan name Satine. Satine then will do anything even to sleep with rich people such as the duke to push her more up that pedestal and better her acting career. Everything changes when she meets Christian who has since then captivated her heart. It's again a struggle of power between commercialism and artistic ideology where the musings of the heart is trapped within. The movie is very enjoyable even with the famous tragic ending.

"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return," is one of the best lines my heart could understand and that my brain can remember. It doesn't help that I am a hopeless romantic myself.

This movie suffered from sequel-itis. I appreciate the message of the film about caring for the environment and all that, but the treatment of that message is so common now. I still love the voice cast's performance and how they utilized the singing abilities of their new cast members. I also love the original songs they made for the film. The story, however, is uninspired and very meh.

The Level Up Movie Challenge: A-Z Movies (V)
Movie Title: Vanishing On The 7th Street

Vanishing on the 7th Street have this very interesting premise about people vanishing into thin air because of a mysterious phenomena where light is your only way to fight the “shadows” but then, it's also the reason these “shadows” will get you. People on the 7th street started to disappear leaving only the clothes they are wearing and their other belongings. There was no explanation at all why it’s happening but you need to keep a light handy or stay in a well-lit place (or wear it for that matter) to survive. Apparently, according to Luke’s (Hayden Christensen) flashback, this was a global blackout of some sort.

The film does have a couple of startling scenes and the actors were okay but the whole film just lacks narrative. I am at a loss as to what the story is really about. I do know however, that it’s some sort of related to the Roanoke story that the character of John Laguizamo (Paul) was reading before the mysterious event started. It is about the Roanoke Colony who simply vanished either because they abandoned the place or die of starvation because there were no supplies to keep them alive.
It is simply mind boggling and draggy at the same time. The characterizations are shallow and non-emphatic from start to finish. The ending is anti-climactic and predictable. Needless to say, this isn't a film you would enjoy - not even on a DVD marathon. Clearly, it is the worst film from Hayden Christensen.

Not the kind of horror movie that I like. Still, it delivers that kind of fright and the movie was quite thrilling. It's about a virus that came from an animal, probably a dog, which could be passed to humans through saliva or being bitten. It works just like most of the zombie movies, only they were not zombies. They are definitely much scarier than zombies in terms of speed and strength as they go berserk go chasing their victims until they bite them and tear them apart. I can't say with how they look though, I think zombies are still scarier in the appearance, but the monster-turned humans here can still look really frightening

The Level Up Movie Challenge: A-Z Movies (T)

Like what I've mentioned when I first reviewed this here - the thing that I don’t like about this film is that there are so many things happening in it. It was uninteresting at most parts and failed to deliver the theme at its maximum level. The film focuses on forgiveness that inspects some aspect of life, its meaning and its purpose.

Robert is a journalist writing a book and is trying to reconcile with his dying father whom he interviewed for his project and discovered that he had been a close friend of Josemaria Escriva, the founder of the Opus Dei movement. The story went deep as Robert learned about the dark past of his father, reluctantly sharing the stories to his son. The story takes place during the Spanish Civil War that seemed to topple what good potentials the film promised at the beginning. The production was good but it was lackluster in execution. It didn’t quite lived up to its promise of grandeur and even the extras having parts in the film were quite terrible!

It was interesting to note that Charlie Cox who played Josemaria Escriva was quite impressive that you actually believe him and feel everything that he’s saying from his eyes. He was quite mesmerizing on the screen if I’m being honest.

The rest of the cast were just miscast-ed or perhaps shown in such a way that they are not as believable as Cox. (It's such a shame because this could've been a great historical film). The film would have been great if (in my opinion) Wes Bentley’s character, Manolo was played by another actor like Gael Garcia Bernal. I just don’t see enough conviction from him and even Dougray Scott who played Robert was a total disappointment.

True enough, the trailer's interesting but the whole execution of the film didn't have the flare to deliver.

Review:

In the midst of penguin addiction frenzy that started in 2005 (March of the Penguins) this movie surely put it to end. A surfing penguin may sound a bit far-fetched and ridiculous. But, a cute and wobbly penguin is not a sore to look at and a "mockumentary" is interesting enough so you might as well give this one a try.

Surfs up tells a story (through a "mockumentary") of Cody Maverick (Shia LaBeouf) who wants to be a surfer. He was discovered by a surfing promoter and traveled to a tropical island where the annual penguin surfing competition is being held at. Cody met Geek (Jeff Bridges) who turned out to be the infamous Big Z and surfing chicken named Chicken Joe (Jon Heder).

The film intends to convey a huge message of never giving up on your dreams but I think that it never lived up to it. Cody for sure didn't give up and became an awesome wave rider in the end, but that is as predictable as the story goes. Plus, I got so bored with the way the story is presented. What's up with interviews and the annoying side-stories which didn't even added life to the main plot? I do understand is a mockumentary but what is a mockumentary anyway? If it's mocking an actual x-games documentary about surfers then they pulled it off it a very annoying way though. This movie is indeed a kid's movie but I don't think they would enjoy it the way with Happy Feet and Happy Feet 2

Review
I had this on my must watch for quite some time just for the quote “when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” The movie had great moments, hilarious scenes, quirky characters and the most memorable lines.
The music’s great if you love the oldies and big band tunes. I love the elderly couples documenting their love stories, I wouldn’t mind watching a whole film made up of those. Also loved seeing Carrie Fisher here as she steals some of the best lines. Weird seeing Meg and Billy so young.
The movie presents some interesting and honest ideas about relationships. Watch and learn. Watch with a date.

I don't usually watch horror movies but this one got me scared for days after seeing it. This is a story of a boy, Dalton, who experiences "astral projection" after waking up from a coma. Dalton is often visited by ghosts and even goes to a dark place called "the further". Renai and Josh, Dalton's parents tried to transfer houses because they thought that their house was haunted. But after they sought the help of paranormal experts, they learn that their son is the one who is haunted, not the house.

What I liked about it is it didn't need gore to scare, and the ghost encounters were so creepy. I judge a horror movie by how much it scared me, and this is one of the few that did. The titlecard itself is creepy. And to think I watched this one in an old cinema with very few people. I have a wild imagination so I really try to avoid horror movies, but due to peer pressure I watched it.

This looks like a classic horror movie because it doesn't need too much effects. The bland color of the screen adds to the somber mood of the movie. The ghosts are one of those iconic ones I will never forget. Those kinds that stay in your mind for a long time. I literally didn't want to look at my window after I got home from the cinema. The song "Tiptoe through the Tulips" was stuck in my head, and I hated it.

Although we all have different standards of how scary a movie is, I can say this is one of the creepiest I've ever seen. It has flaws, like in the second half things got a little over the top, and it is predictable. But I think this movie will age well, because it is classic and even became a surprising box-office hit. By the way, I haven't got the courage to watch Insidious 2.

For someone to be capable of loving like that deserves the distinction of being the best character in my book

Not my typical type of horror film as well as I like supernatural things being invovled in such genre. However, this film still gave quite a scare to me. It was the first time I watched this film, to be honest, LOL and I watched the parody film Scary Movie several years ago

The thrilling scenes were spreadly nicely throughout the whole duration of the movie. Also, the mystery of who the masked psycho murderer might be was quite puzzling. I have suspected who it might be. I got one, right but I never thought that there were two killers when they revealed themselves. I also like how the movie was not very gory as I've never been a fan of seeing internal organs and a lot of blood splattered all over. Yes, I love horror movies but I hate gory films such as the Saw series I can tolerate the gore only when I know it's because of the supernatural things like in the Final Destination series but I much dislike those freaky gory scenes that can actually be done in reality, not to mention, man-made.
