And I was not surprised at all, kaya siguro pinamigay agad ni coach Tim yang si Chua, kasi alam nila target yan ng Petron, mahirap kasi kung sister teams ang magtrade, mas obvious!:naughty:

matagal ko na sinasabi, partner ni RSA si MR sa Manila North Harbor
dati partner ni MR si MVP, pero gusto ni MVP 51% share siya, ayaw ni MR
punta si MR kay RSA kasi alam ni MR na banas na banas si RSA kay MVP
di makapaniwala si RSA na isang XMAN tinatalo siya sa business
tapos alam din ni RSA na gustong gusto ni MR makapasok sa PBA
so the best way is via GBP, eh di naman deep pockets si MR
so RSA na bahala basta farm team...
  • mag pa pa blow out ang San Miguel Conglomerates nito....

MVP tinatalo sa business ang SMC? Are you sure sir? Ang pagkakaalam ko tv5 itself ay napakalaki ng lugi. Paano kaya kung bawiin ni Suharto pera nya kay Manay. :-)

The sad part is that Romero, on interviews says he wants to build a championship caliber team. But one by one, he is selling his young pieces.

And just to prove that San Miguel has 5 teams in the PBA (the two pseudo are Global Port and Barako), you wonder how Siot Tanquincen ended up at Barako as coaching consultant. Corollarily, you wonder why Commissioner Salud isn't opening his eyes on this revealing information. How can Tanquincen, a team manager of Petron and an almost permanent fixture with the San Miguel camp, easily move to Barako Energy sans fanfare? No hiring process, no press release from Raffy Casyao, no tearful goodbyes from Robert Non, no appreciation from Tanquincen, etc. Just transfer as coaching consultant? The same thing happened of course with Koy Banal but Tanquincen is obviously the more renowned personality.

This is blatant evidence of Barako being part of the SMC conglomerate - how easy it is to move players (and officials) left and right. Salud cannot bring up technicalities here like, "on paper, Barako is owned by George Chua and Bert Lina" when the one running the ship are people from the SMC camp. If he's not being deliberately blind, he would have put a stop to all these direct trades involving Barako and the SMC teams under the rule of "sister teams cannot transact directly with each other."

But then, Salud prefers to look the other way...quite conveniently. You wonder as well why, for all their lament, MVP, WSU and QUe / Yu are not bringing these issues up with the Board. Are they afraid to "rock the boat" like Salud - that if they antagonize SMC, the fear of having only 5 teams remaining is imminent?

And just to clarify, contrary to what many may think here, Air 21 is actually managed by Bert Lina and his team. Unlike Barako which is run by the SMC guys, there's no involvement at Air 21 by SMC. Many suspect such because of Air 21's penchant to give up their marquee players to the SMC teams. It's actually a team philosophy - but it has nothing to do with them being an SMC puppet. They can negotiate with any team owner and they act on their own interest. But Barako and Global are totally different. The worse part? Both claim to build their team to be competitive and relevant. But what they're doing is really just serve the interests of the 3 other SMC teams. At least, with Air 21, Lito Alvarez only cites greater corporate interest which may or may not have any relationship to their basketball performance.

Lito Alvarez also sells players to the MVP group. At least he is true to the public. Unlike Romero and Casyao. Alvarez learned his lesson from the Japeth Aguilar saga in 2009. Lesser public backlash if you'll be true and transparent.

Actually, yes. SMC is in a big financial trouble right now. TV5 is just a part of the many businesses of MVP (through his MPIC) as he is well-diversified. So kung lugi man sa media, may iba pa siyang ventures na sasalo sa kanya.

On topic: Saang teams kaya mapupunta sina Romeo at RR? It's not a question of why but when will the two be dealt with.
  • Jay P. MercadoJay P. Mercado Moderator PEx Moderator
Romero's the biggest hypocrite out there really. He rationalizes his PBA existence because on paper, he's actually more wealthy than RSA (check out the richest Filipinos list) and MVP. The problem is, Romero isn't liquid. Hierro's financial background helped him understood the relationship of Mikee with RSA and MVP. Like him, I knew from the getgo that Romero is a mere puppet - first with MVP in the so-called Burger King tie-up with Bert Lina, Romero and MVP; and later with Manila North Harbor, which MVP wanted greater stake. Romero didn't have the liquidity to expand North Harbor, MVP had but MVP obviously wanted greater control. He went to RSA for the same financial tie-up which RSA provided.

And while Lito Alvarez (or AAA) is part of PAL as a member of the Board of Directors (PAL being co-owned by Lucio Tan and SMC but managed and operated by SMC), it doesn't automatically equate him to be an SMC puppet. His loyalty is with Bert Lina and acts for the interest of Air 21. His connections with RSA and MVP (Burger King as Lina and MVP still has minority shares of stock with the company now owned by Jollibee) are still intact, which makes him work well with either group.

Among the 3 consistent cellar dweller teams, I think GlobalPort still has the vision of winning pero hanggang sa semis lang ang vision :)
