Maybe it's registered under his dad. It's unethical to use his dad's car but so long as they can prove that the dad uses it, then I believe there are no restrictions on what a congressman can register as his vehicle. However, if it is proven that it's the son who uses it, then that's an abuse of power in my opinion.

how about if you buy a car with the 8-plate? is that OK, since the common practice here in the PH is you don't do a transfer of ownership anymore?

Sadly it is legal. Immoral? Definitely, considering the car will likely never be able to be driven in the roads (to use the term rather loosely) of the province where they hail from.

I've come across this before. The issued plate is retained by the politician. These plates are issued to the politician and cannot be transferred. Diplomatic plates however go with the car but once you register the car under your name, the diplomatic plate will be dropped and you'll be issued a new one.

The 8 plate should only be used by the person in authority (whom it is issued to) and not their spouses, kids, kabits, etc. But sadly that is not the case always; it's good thing though that under the PNoy admin, nabawasan considerably ang mga utak wang wang sa kalye with these "protocol plates". I expect them to come back with a vengeance in 2016 should a certain person win.

I know the kid who owns this car. Met him through the Lancer EX crew EB. But I'm not sure why he has that plate, don't know either if his dad is a congressman. But surely that car has been bought brand new (for the people who wonder if this has been bought 2nd hand with the 8-plate already).

'll try to ask, and update ya'll. :)
