Mixing Gasoline Octanes for Older Vehicles

Hi,

times are hard and money is hard to come by as well. So para dun sa mga nagdadala ng auto, do you mix different gasoline octanes? For example mixing 500php worth of V-Power or XCS with 300php worth of regular unleaded or FuelSave just to extend the amount of gas in your car?

is it bad for the engine/car? the vehicle is a 1994 Mitsubishi Lancer GLXI.

It's not recommended to do that. Older engines are also more sensitive to fuel that contains ethanol as these fuels have a tendency to attract moisture hence the higher incidence of corrosion in fuel tanks for cars that use E10 and are used only once a week or less.

How often do you use the car? How much fuel is used? You might save more by keeping your tyres properly inflated and stepping lightly on the accelerator.

AFAIK the minimum octane needed for the 4G92 engine is RON 93 so you can use Xtra. Besides its also a low-compression engine so using higher octane fuels such as Blaze is a waste.

Ethanol is also not a problem for the engine because its already fuel injected, so fuel is atomized at high pressure, unlike a carburretor that relies on airflow for atomization. And as long as the car is daily-driven, water absorption is not a problem either.
