Need some advanced diagnosis for my car problem

Hey Guys,

I know there is something wrong with my car right now but I am asking you for some advanced diagnosis so I could prepare on what expenses should I be spending on the repair so if you guys know something about this, please feel free to reply:

I have a car with automatic transmission and the problem that I am encountering right now is that while I am accelerating (without stepping on too much on the accelerator), I am seeing my RPM meter going up then going down for several times. I also feel my engine revving up during this time and felt the "*****" at this stage. Though the car can still run well but the acceleration seems affected.

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.
TIA.

What's your car? Does the car feel sluggish? Does it only do this when you've just started the engine or does it do this all the time when the engine is idling?

What car is this? Is the automatic transmission a standard one or a CVT? This happens when the transmission is in any forward or reverse gear?

Thanks K.I.L.L. and slamm for the replies.
My car is a Honda City idsi 2004 model. The jerking happens randomly during driving and when the car is idle. It really does feel sluggish sometimes. Acceleration is also sometimes hampered because of the jerking.

It's a CVT model then. Try to research on the problems encountered by the Honda CVT to add to your knowledge on how to deal with it (AFAIK, there's a thread on this on the tsikot forums).

Has your CVT fluid been changed recently? If not then you can have that done (make sure to use the Honda prescribed CVT fluid) and then have the CASA reprogram your CVT as well. There were cases of poor performance by some Jazz/City units and after resetting/reprogramming at Honda, it worked okay again. Hopefully that's just the case. I understand even after changing the battery, they recommend a reprogramming.

Are you the first owner? Do you know its service history? As slamm said, Hondas are very particular about the auto transmission fluid so you should only use the Honda ones. Problems arise when people don't bother to change the auto transmission fluid after the first 40,000 and every 20,000 thereafter. CVTs also do not work in the same way as the old auto transmissions where you can trick it to shift by playing with the accelerator. If I'm not mistaken, doing that trick can only damage it in the long run. I highly recommend you take your vehicle to an auto transmission specialist or the dealership and have it checked immediately before it gets worse and you end up not being able to move yor car at all.
