LONDON, Nov 12 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Sexual harassment, high rates of female genital cutting and a surge in violence and Islamist feeling after the Arab Spring uprisings have made Egypt the worst country in the Arab world to be a woman, a poll of gender experts showed on Tuesday.

Islam can never convince me that it is the religion of peace if its current leaders are not able to address these severe violations of human rights of its women in places where the religion is prevalent. It is really on the issue of human rights that Christian societies are quite distinct from Islamic ones. In Christian societies, the bishops and the sugos try to manipulate the system but the laws and the government are secular. In Muslim societies, the laws and government are Islamic.0

Sexual harassment and female genital mutilation statistics are shocking. This is absolute lunacy that only modern but retarded bearded medieval fools disguised as 'scholars' can tolerate and uphold.
Al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Majmoo (1/367): "Circumcision is obligatory for both men and women in our view. This is the view of many of the salaf, as was narrated by al-Khattaabi. Among those who regarded it as obligatory is Ahmad it is the correct view that is well known and was stated by al-Shaafai (may Allaah have mercy on him), and the majority stated definitively that it is obligatory for both men and women."0 -

I'd like to believe this but it if a fact that religion (or philosophical inclinations) contribute a lot to a person's or culture's moral stand on things. It appears to me as if Islam is at most indifferent towards maltreatment and discrimination of women.
Can an argument be made that Egyptian society has a more backwards view on women as compared to the times of Cleopatra?0 -
