Be it JJ Abram's version, The Original Series, or The Next Generation, do you think the religions we are having now would be accepted in the Federation of Planets?

Yung mga sinabi ko sa 37 years from now...
Ondoy is 4 years ang pagitan with Yolanda. Estimate of more than 9 times mauulit ang Ondoy and Yolanda hanggang 2050. Anong masama doon? May data ako? Walang bastos at bayolente doon. deleted.

Welcome to the realm of faith.

Yan ang ibig sabihin ng faith.
  • just answer the topic question. if earth still had its religions, earth can never unite against alien attack
  • I don't see why not. Just watch Deep Space 9.
  • I think in a Star Trek universe, they should already have grown wise enough to prevent civilizations like us who are embroiled in internal religious/racial/social wars from transcending to their density or dimension.

That means, the Star Trek universe may include our realm but under some form of quarantine, relegating our reality to certain limits in order to allow the disastrous wars.

I think even the concept of "country" would be eradicated by then.
  • Definitely some religions can survive. Agnostic views of Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism interpret souls going to heaven differently. Worthy descendants of mankind able to survive the rigors of planet earth will progress and develop enough knowledge to take their place in the intergalactic community of enlightened species throughout the universe.

Everybody would be up in arms if god was presented in the image of a Klingon

    on the other hand....

People should take a look at the Dune universe where you have such things as Buddhislamic rites and The Orange Catholic Bible.

The star trek universe actually illustrates an ancient space faring species called "the progenitors" that genetically modified indiginous species on different worlds throughout the galaxy. Inserting their own genetic code to give them knowledge and sentience. Vulcans, Romulans, Klingons, Rigelians, and countless other alien species look similar to humans in form because of this. It complements with the story of creation in the Genesis where God decided to make the human being "in our own image" (please note the plural description of the creator). Polytheistic religions can find relevance in a multitude of alien species acting like gods. But advanced civilizations may likely maintain oneness of thought via extreme social coherence, hence monetheistic religions can be relevant too. Developing a warp drive to travel to the stars may not be the end of humanity's evolution, technological progress will still go on until we become as omnipotent as the Q species.

As for the Dune universe, it was created by someone who fantasizes of dominatrix women wearing leather straps and chains, subjugating men through sex. There is no concept of sentient alien species there. The only thinking creatures alive were humans who diverged into their respective adaptations in different habitats throughout the galaxy. The concept of God is basically attained by humans bred through hundreds of generations to trancend their limited conciousness and mental faculties. Besides genetics, they also have mind enhancing drugs (spice), and Artificial Intelligence to help them one way or the other.

I've read all chapters from Butlerian Jihad to Sandworms of Dune.

Yeah what a safe place to live in. -_- those kardashians.. I mean cardasians can't be trusted.

But it had the same goals as Babylon 5 I think.

But think about it. if we, with our diverse culture and religion, can't resolve conflicts with our own species, people who look like us, what makes you think we can win a war with the borg, dominion, species 8472, etc.

I believe you missed my reference. Organized religion is actually one of the core issues in that series. From the beliefs of the adherents, the organization of the religion, all the way up to the gods.
  • ehem .... geeks are still trying to promote the trekkie ideology.

actually, the vulcans have a religion and mythology.

most pre-warp civilizations featured in star trek were religious.

actually, most human religions shown in star trek were monistic cults and scams.

Who has read or watched Ender's Game? It's not ST but it's sci-fi anyway similar to the series. In the Battle Room, Ender's best friend is Alai who greets him with "Salaam".

Ender's Game is the first book in a long saga (8 books in all). In its sequel Speaker of the Dead, the colonized planets are also divided into predominant religions. There are planets for Catholicism, for Calvinists, and for Muslims. People of different faiths may visit any of the planets but if there is religious persecution the Starway Council will cease support of the offending planet and have the religious leader removed from office.
