Dondon Lanuza, the Pinoy who killed an Arab who tried to ***** him, was sentenced to death but was eventually freed after efforts of global Pinoys to pay the blood money. He is now in Manila and declared that he has since become a Muslim and plans to remain that way.

Any or both of the following:

1. He converted to be released from prison
2. He converted because he found some kind of direction in his life when indoctrinated.

But on February 27, 2011, the victim’s family agreed to sign a letter of forgiveness and accept the blood money. Initially they demanded, SAR 5 million but this was reduced to SAR 3 million.

In December 2011, Letty Lanuza, Dondon’s mother, sought the help of Loida Nicolas-Lewis, a Filipino American philanthropist, to raise the needed Blood Money.

Lewis and supporters were able collect more than $121,000 or roughly SAR 450,000.

That's very possible, and possibly because it has become a high profile case that the king intervened.
