Epic fantasy fiction captures my interests.

This is for the books versus. Movie-television matchup won't be judged heavily but could be a factor of your vote.
I have only read fellowship of the ring, AGoT, ACoK and ASoS; watched the three lotrs uncut edition, and tuned/updated to GoT show

Criteria:
1. Setting/History/Detail
2. Characters
3. Story/Plot
4. Writing/Theme

Planning to finish the remaining ones - so far, the character development from GRRM is the one that separates them.
Eventhough it's not yet finished, my vote goes as of now to ASoIaF.

GRRM's characters are modernized compared to JRRT's. But as LotR is much heavy on fantasy than plot, and GRRM's is so far more on plots with a hint of fantasy in it, I can't really compare. But on a grander scale, JRRT's books would topple GRRM's. The genius behind the LotR series is just too unfathomable to comprehend.

But on the You-can't-drop-it factor, GRRM wins it.

3-1 to GRRM. To be fair, LOTR set the precedent for the fantasy genre and I loved the movie versions.
