mag sportage ka na lang, ford is having problems in the escape's engine computer systems, which is also found in the explorer, focus and fusion, built between 2008-2012. for some inexplicable reason they suddenly go into "limp home mode" - the vehicle will suddenly slow down to 20-30 mph, a feature that protects the engine when something is wrong, but when you do diagnostics wala naman diperensya, ford is still working on the problem they initially attrubuted it to faulty circuit boards in the computer, but the limp home mode still happens even after changing the circuit boards.

Is the Sportage you're considering the gas or diesel version?

The Escape is just waaay too old. The Sportage seems to be the better choice if you ask me.
  • Ground clearance? Do you take these things off road?

^Even with a high ground clearance, both will only go so far off road. The Escape also has a bad location for the air intake which makes it ingest water in floods if the owner isn't careful.

And also the lack of low range gearing... etc, that why i asked if the TS intended to take it off road.

Whoaa, this is dangerous right? especially if your cruising at aroung 65-75 mph?

Ill consider the Sportage in a year's time once funds are in :)

In the case of the Sportage and Escape (the Escape has no 4-wheel drive variant anymore BTW), there's no low-range gearing. It's really just AWD capability if ever so if he's looking for serious off-roading, he'll have to consider other vehicles. I'm assuming his preference for off-road or ground clearance capabilities is more concerned on our bad provincial roads and flooded city streets. :D

Isn't there an all-new Escape out by now? Or is it not being sold here yet?

The gas-powered Sportage is "going out of fashion" due to its diesel counterpart, and a few months ago Kia was selling it at a pretty big discount. I'm not 100% sure about how quickly it gulps down the go-juice but I'm hearing it doesn't do so well on the fuel economy stakes.

Between the two it's the only real option, though. This is at least until Ford sells the new Escape here.

Yep it's the European Kuga all right. The 'Mericans still call it the "Escape" though. I'm not sure Ford is selling that here although it's been sold elsewhere since 2011, EcoBoost engines and all.
  • I would go with the sportage, especially mga diesel. You can't go wrong with diesel, cheap and reliable parin. But I think with Korean cars kelangan talaga clean diesel or un mga turbo diesel. kase most new diesel ngayon CRDI technology na.

Ford Escape 20-30 mph in limp mode? fair speed parin naman yun diba? thats almost 50-60 kph right?

With Sportage, I think fuel economy wise pretty good especially pag diesel, not sure about kung roomy siya or ndi. I think interior wise ok sya. I have a Carens and I like how roomy it is second hand bili ko so I don't know how Kia's after service is. I would think Kia Sportage has a pretty fair ground clearance un escape ata higher konti than un sportage.

^musta naman ang maintenance ng Carens CRDI mo?

kapag maintenance ang pinag-uusapan, mahal kapag diesel ang makina mo compared sa Gas, IMO.

Not really, I would say the same lang if not cheaper for the diesel engine.

^Regular service maintenance of a diesel is quite affordable. What may be costly is if there are problems with the CRDi system or turbocharger but this does not come into play until your mileage is really high and the car ages; unless you're negligent on maintaining it properly or the engine is a lemon.

nababasa ko sa mga comments sa isang FB group na kailangan mong i-idle for a while yung makina after a long trip. ayun

That's to allow the turbo to cool down (and have the turbine stop spinning). If you shut off a turbo engine abruptly after a hard drive, all oil pressure is lost immediately inside the turbocharger and this results in added friction/wear to the unit. Normally, it's good to keep the rpms low as you approach your destination then idle for a minute or so before shutting off if you drove the car constantly at high speed or high rpm. A turbo usually engages at around 1.8K to 2K rpm engine speed.

Actually dapat lahat ng engine gasoline man or diesel may cool down. Kahit na 1 or 2 minutes lang, at dapat para sa turbocharged na diesel.

I think many turbo'd cars already have an automatic function that runs the engine at idle for a few minutes after the key has been shut off to ensure turbo cooling. I think it's an option is available in your casa if not you can look aftermarket if you want to have a peace of mind.
