Profit Before Health: Life as a Seafood Processor in Alaska

Why is profit frequently put before health? I worked as a seafood processor in Alaska over the course of three long, winter months. The working conditions were shocking. Most of the processors were foreigners. Sleep deprivation, hidden injuries and illnesses, fainting from exhaustion, frostbite, and chemical exposure were just a few elements that processors frequently dealt with at the plant.
