My advice is to find a car for 3/4 of your budget and keep the 1/4 to give the car a thorough work up.
Agree here! Expect to spend additional for maintenance, repairs, insurance and some minor mods.
Matipid and madaling i-maintain is liekwise dependent on the condition of the car irregardless of brand. At 200K, you're definitely buying something more than 10 years of age so it's quite probable repairs are due. Try checking first the usual cars such as a 2000s Nissan Sentra/Exalta or a mid to late 90s Toyota Corolla but these won't be as efficient as a mid 2000s Vios or Honda City.0 -

Thanks guys! hindi ko naisip na magset aside ng budget for the repairs. That is a very good advice. Dapat pala mga 250k. Mukang maganda din maghintay ng rush seller kasi bagsak presyo na rin sila minsan. May nakita nga ako na honda city 2004 model for 250K at negotiable pa.0 -

When buying a second hand, timing lang talaga yan. Just take your time and the car that suits your needs and budget will come along. Minsan sa dami nga ng choices, mabwibwiset ka.
Yes, a budget of P250K seems more apt. Setting aside the 50K for incidental expenses will make it easier for you in the long run.
Personally, if i had the budget of P200K to buy a car, i'd consider the following:
- Sentra Exalta (2000 to 2001 model B14, or the 2001 to 2003 model N16)
- Toyota Corona Exsior (1997-1998)
- 1990's L200 pick-up (hard to find one in good condition though)
- 1980's 123 body Benz CE (actually, i've been wanting one as a weekend car)

Try to visit the warehouses of Asialink in Pasig. Got a great deal on an SUV there. Spent around 40k for preventive maintenance and repairs and its almost as good as new.
There are lots of late model cars there that just need a little TLC. Some are priced so low you can have more budget for preventive maintenance and repairs. The caretaker there will inform you outright if the car is flooded or not.0 -

I'd shy away from repossessed vehicles unless you actually know cars. Most owners knowing na hahatakin naman na ang mga kotse at motorsiklo binabalewala na ang PMS and run the vehicles hard.0 -
^Ah yes of course. For the enthusiast, its easy to spot a good deal. I brought my handheld scanner and a little gut feel. No regrets so far.
Back to topic, I'd stretch my budget a little and get an 03/04 Vios/City. Its almost the same size as previous 90's compact cars (sentra, corolla, lancer) but more fuel efficient. You'll save more money in the long run.0 -

It's a hit or miss thing with repoes so one has to know how to look at cars when they consider this. So far we've bought two cars which were repoed. Both needed work but we knew what we were getting into as well so it turned out okay. What mattered was we got it at the target price.
There are also some repo cars with less 10,000kms and are 1-2 years old if you keep an eye out.0 -

Hello, sorry for butting in but I have to ask you guys for your opinion on what 2nd hand car to get for a budget of 200-300K?
I've been scouring sulit.com pages and here's my options so far:
1. 2003 and 2004 mitsubishi lancer MX
2. 2006 vios 1.5G
3. 2004 honda city
All of them have mileage of about 70K and are priced between 240-280K. Good deals? Thanks!0 -
