UAAP players dominate PBA rosters, 2012 draft candidates
RENEE FOPALAN AND ADRIAN DY, GMA NEWS August 16, 2012 8:24pm

Forty-five percent of the current players in the PBA came from a UAAP school, with 30 percent of the incoming draft class sharing their roots.

Out of the 153 players that were listed on a PBA roster during the 2012 PBA Governors' Cup, 69 of them came from a UAAP school, compared to just 26 players, or 17 percent, from the NCAA.

In fact, there is a higher percentage of players who came from American colleges, 39 players to be precise, or 26 percent, than those that came from one of the eight NCAA schools at the beginning of the millennium.

The remaining 19 came from non-UAAP, non-NCAA colleges, or institutions that have only recently become members of the NCAA, such as Lyceum of the Philippines University and Emilio Aguinaldo College.

In Sunday's 2012 PBA Draft, players from the UAAP once again fill the ranks of the aspirants, with 21 of the 71 initial prospects coming from that league.

Fifteen players come from the United States, while 14 come from the NCAA.

Surprisingly, 21 do not come from one of the aforementioned sources, equaling the amount from the UAAP.

Going back to the PBA, there are currently 69 UAAP players already playing in the pros, and a solid 20 percent came from De La Salle University, with another 20 percent, or 14 players, hailing from the University of the East.

Ateneo and UST players come a close second, with 11 each from Katipunan and Espa?a\, or 16 percent.

FEU (10 players), UP, (5 players), NU (3 players) and Adamson (3 players), round out the list.

Meanwhile, a similar break down of NCAA schools shows that most of the players from that league come from San Sebastian College, with 8 of their 26 representatives being former Golden Stags.

Letran is second-most, with six former Knights, followed by San Beda College with four Red Lions, and PCU, prior to leaving the league, sending four Dolphins to the professional ranks.

St. Benilde and Jose Rizal University has two players each, while the University of Perpetual Help and the Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals have none. - AMD, GMA News

This season, Mapua has a representative in Yousef Taha. Mapua is the same school that produced Alvin Patriminio, one of the greatest Filipino basketball players of all-time.

As for Perpetual Help, I believe the greatest player this school has produced is Bong Hawkins. :socool:

Saka in the last 10 years sina Jason Castro, Kerby Raymundo, and Calvin Abueva lang yung naging Superstars na nanggaling sa NCAA teams.

Interesting that the almost 7-peat NCAA champs have a measly 15% of players from NCAA schools, and that either they're not on the rotation, or is on rotation but on sh!tty teams.

There were also finals where they don't players on either finalists' rosters, while other NCAA teams have some.

Interesting too is DLSU and UE getting a LION's share of PBA players from the UAAP: almost half came from both schools. UE especially since only Paul Lee has been a legit PBA player from that school.

In fairness puro during UE's James Yap era yan (which didn't lead UE to a finals appearance, unlike Paul Lee). After them si Paul Lee na lang yung nasa rotation, unless you'd include the likes of Pari Llagas.

Also, for some reason, parang hindi considered as from Mapua si Yousef Taha. Ibang school ang naka-lista sa kanya.

I see many potential PBA players in the NCAA at present, including some rookies. :socool:

Gusto niyo malaman bakit?

don allado 1st pick lasalle by alaska

    rich alvarez

    mike cortez

    enrico villanueva
