Sub-compact vs. Compact help

Sir, I'm planning to get a new car soon. Thing is, di ko alam kung ano pipiliin ko. My main concern is the car's FC and reliability. Speed may be given up pero it's a plus factor din for me. Eto yung mga pinagpipilian ko.

Sub-Compact:
1.3 Toyota Vios 2012
1.3 Honda City 2012

Compact:
1.6 Toyota Altis 2012
1.8 Honda Civic 2012
1.8 Ford Focus HB 2012

I know about this don't compare lemons with apples. Ang gusto ko lang mangyari is give me your best bet between those two categories and I'll take it from there. Chevrolet Cruze is also a possibility for me pero itong mga ito talaga yung gusto ko. Elantra is out due to bad customer service dito sa atin ng Hyundai. Buti sana kung they're as reliable as Toyota na pwedeng for PMS na lang ang pagpunta mo sa Casa. Anyway, thank you sa mga magrereply. Open din ako for other suggestions.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a Honda or a Toyota. I am not a fan of
Ford after owning 3 Ford vehicles in the past both here and overseas. A 1.3 engine might actually consume more fuel as you need to step on the accelerator more. Get the 1.6 Altis or the 1.8 Civic. The dealerships might be doing a promo this December so better hold on for another month.
  • TS bat wala sa choices mo yung
    1.5 vios &
    1.5 city? :):):)

for me kasi mas gusto ko yung sub-compact sa pang araw-araw ko.

I believe kasi na 1.3 engine is enough for a car that size. I want an efficient car kasi. 1.3G Vios yung choice sa Vios. Not familiar sa variant ng City though.
  • Suzuki Jimny, may offraod capability.
  • einhander
einhander thank god for the atheist
1.3 for city driving. If you drive mostly on highways 1.6 and above.

As what other said, you cant go wrong with honda or toyota. Lalo na with vios if you dont mind it being a taxi. Frugal FC, cheap spare parts dahil nga sa daming taxi nito. Also expect big discount dahil nga outgoing model na to.

City kung gusto mong may porma, responsive acceleration, medyo lowered kaya minsan sumsayad sa humps.

Or you can wait for mirage, its getting a lot of buzz lately.
  • ^^ actually kasama ako sa nag DP sa MIRAGE nang 10k para sa pre order.. :bashful: this coming nov ko na daw makukuha. :):)

pero kung may budget naman si TS sa toyota at honda which is civic/city & altis/vios. yan muna bilhin nya. di pa natin alam yung reliability & FC ng mirage dito sa pinas. hehehe

Tell us how you go with the Mirage man. I am quite curious with the engine's performance.

And after trying out several Suzukis and getting testimonials from buddies, I can say that the little Suzuki Jimny is a very capable off-roader. Even the old Samurais are very capable and I have been scouting around for a good deal so I can have a new project car to play around with.

Can anyone give me some figures about sa FC ng 1.8 2012 civic and 1.6 2012 altis? I'm hearing a 6km/l na civic eh. Lakas masyado. Vios and City has good mileage though.

huwag ka muna bibili ng civic if ever kasi lalabas na daw iyong panigabong modelo nila. antay-antay ka na lang muna kung ito nga ang napupusoan mo

don't you want to include the honda jazz in your choices? it's a mighty spacious spiffy car for its size and its also a miser to boot.

I'll pass sa Jazz. It's a little bit small for me not to mention its women target market. I'm a guy BTW. I'd rather get the City 1.5E kung Jazz lang din yung isang pagpipilian. Not that I have issues with Jazz owners. It's not really my type kasi. That's why I didn't bother looking at Mit. Mirage, e10, eon, celerio, etc.
  • 1.3 is barely enough for a car that size. even the 1.5 liter is medyo hirap.

This is right. I have a V6 camry and a 1.3 vios. My camry's consumption is 7-8 km/litre. My vios' consumtion is 9-10 km/litre. This is because I need to step on the vios' accelerator more to achieve my desired speed as compared to the camry where I can just step lightly on the accelerator. The vios is my daily driver though since it is much easier to park.

In my opinion, the 1.6 Altis is your best option considering fuel consumption, size and power.

If economy is what you're after, I think there are diesel sedans now like the i30 from Hyundai.

Good luck to your soon-to-be car purchase.
  • I would choose either 1.3 City or Vios, but Vios is known to be more fuel efficient, especially in manual transmission.

For the compact, can't go wrong with 1.8 Civic. I have both 1.8 Civic and 1.6 Altis and the Altis just sucks. It's damn underpowered, especially in automatic form. So it's also not fuel efficient as expected.
