^^ You can go to whichever hospital or physician you want, but you have to trust what they are saying. There is always a someone who can help you and your boyfriend. If you want further reassurance, you can seek a second or third opinion, but the more important thing is you have to have a primary physician which will handle your case. A neurologist/ psychiatrist may be the better option for him.0

It is a somatoform disorder if all the medical conditions have been ruled out and he still feels there is something wrong with him. I thought of it initially but I cannot say it directly because I haven't seen your bf. If a somatoform disorder is in mind, then all tests will be negative. Sometimes we do the tests just to ensure the patient that he/she has no medical condition and it is all in the mind. Somatoform disorders are difficult to treat and needs the full support of the family and friends.0

^^ Somatoform disorders are different from anxiety disorders or panic attacks. In somatoform disorder, one thinks he/she has a medical condition and yet the symptoms cannot be fully explained by the tests. The cause is unknown but some experts think it may be due to being over sensitive to physical complaints. If your bf has a normal MRI, then most likely it is not MS. The main treatment is psychotherapy, and in some, given with medications. If you are concerned with the kidney, then assurance from the psychiatrist will help in understanding that the main effect is more beneficial than the side effects. Treating these kinds of disorders are difficult and regular follow-ups with the psychiatrist will help. It is important to understand that the symptoms are psychological, hence constant consults with the psychiatrist is beneficial. I'm sorry but I do not accept consultations from online patients but I do appreciate the trust.0

I also do not advise this since it will still show a normal result and it will just make you spend more money on unnecessary tests, but if he really wants to be sure that he has a medical condition, then go ahead and do the tests. If they are normal, then it really is a somatoform disorder. By doing the tests, the patient and the relatives will hopefully believe the physician that the tests do not explain the symptoms and it is really a psychiatric disorder. I'm not familiar with any other institution within the Makati area that offers psychotherapy. Cheaper options would be at National Center for Mental Health in Mandaluyong and PGH in Taft Ave., but they are far from your place..0

I'm sure PGH is a lot cheaper than Makati Med but it may still be expensive, but I don't know the exact cost since each physician may charge depending on the flow of the session. Having a psychiatric disease also financially drains the patient and relatives. If you want to see a new physician, you may do so. It is your right to have a second opinion. You may or may not tell your attending physician about it. Some types of somatoform disorders rely on the psychotherapy rather than medicines, meaning the sessions with the psychiatrist may be more important than the medicines, but this depends on the type of disorder. It is difficult to say if the disorder will be treated, but I do hope he gets better.0
