Car Scratches...Where To and How much?

My 2-month old car has a 3-4-inch scratch on the side near the rear bumper. I just noticed it while I was at my parking slot. Its such an eyesore! Its not a deep scratch though, but I'm wondering kung saan ko sya pwede ipaayos or retouch or what...I'm thinking of bringing it to Toyota pero nag aalangan ako baka super mahal naman. If I course it thorugh my insurance, first I don't have a report of the scratch, and second I have to pay the participation fee of 2K. My officemate had the scratch of her Altis fixed at Toyota Bicutan and it cost her around 4K! Does it really cost that much? My other officemates told me naman, magsasawa din daw ako soon sa pagpapaayos ng mga gasgas...Haha... Would you know any other car shops who can fix the scratch? Yung reliable and with value-for-money...Hay...;)

Scratches are inevitable, you can't really prevent it. What I usually do is to use a scratch remover to make it "less" visible and after that, ignore it. Rather than spending P3,500-P5,000 in repainting for every scratch you see, let it simply accumulate over 4 years. If you could set aside P500/month for 4 years, you'll have P24,000. This P24,000 is good enough for a total paint over of your car and some minor dent repairs. Kindly note that should you decide to have the scratch repaired and painted over, they have to paint the whole panel to make the color even. Also, you have to expect that the newly painted panel will not match the body color of you car. The best they could do is to match it 90%. This is why I advice to save for 4 years and have the whole body repainted so you won't have to see color mismatched panels.
Another less expensive alternative is to have it machine buffed at Big Bert's or any car wash shop near your place. Buffing can help minimize or erase the scratch completely which all depends on how deep the scratch is.0 -
How deep is the scratch?
If you run a fingernail over it, will you feel the depth of the scratch? If not, buffing, plus a good filler and wax, can remove the scratch. Any reputable car detailer can do this.
If the scratch is deep enough that you can feel it with a fingernail, then you will need to have it retouched. Just make sure that the paint is the exact same kind. Rubbing compounds can sometimes work but the risk there is that if the guy applying it does not know what he's doing, it will only make the scratch worse.
Btw, it typically costs 2.5k to 3k to repaint an entire panel. A touch up on the scratched up area should not even reach half that price.0 -
Don't sweat it. Scratches are normal. Just have the car repainted later on. The recommendations to use scratch / swirl remover or rubbing compound is right. Don't use excessive amounts of rubbing compound though. Just remember, when applying any chemical, it is better to use little and increase it as you go or you might damage the paint / finish.

Saan ba okay na car shop for these scratches (preferably QC or Makati area) ? Because of my negligence and stupidity nagasgas sa wall ng parking yung kotse ko. Meron tuloy deep scratch na size of a .25 coin, and a few minor scratches. Medyo malalim talaga yung isa eh. Eye sore sya. :( Gusto ko ipaayos.0

try mo yung "TCut." 300 ang bili ko sa Ace Hardware. iba't iba ang kulay nun depending on your car's color. it works like toothpaste. ipahid mo dun sa nagasgasan tapos hintay ka ng about 5 minutes. using a towel, ikalat mo in a circular motion. ginamit ko 'to one time na dinaanan ng taxi yung front bumper, sa ibabaw ng plaka. (lasing kasi ako). lumabas yung puti. pagkagamit ng tcut, parang walang nangyari. and then as suggested above, iparepaint mo na lang pag sobrang dami na.0
