Derek Ramsay mum on identity of mystery date; confirms English Only Please sequel
    By Glen P. Sibonga
    01/24/15 05:46 pm

“Yeah, you know even during the height ng pinagdaanan ko [court battle with Jolly], nabigyan ako ng bagong endorsement, yung Tanduay ko.

“And then when our movie English Only Please came out, sobrang successful, another blessing.

"And then now, even more blessings kasi after the success of the movie, may mga different types of offers.

“'Tapos, I’m doing my first sitcom sa TV5, yung Mac & Chiz.

“Working on that. I’m dating and I hope I’ll find Miss Right and we’ll see what happens in the next three years. But ayokong i-jinx,” lahad niya.

THE GIRL’S IDENTITY? Puwede na bang malaman ang katauhan ng kanyang dine-date ngayon na balitang kasama niya noong New Year Countdown ng TV5 sa Quezon City Memorial Circle?

“Huwag muna. Ayusin ko muna ito. You know, there’s no label, there’s nothing yet. We’re dating and that’s it,” matipid niyang sagot.

Kailan ba ako nagkaroon ng oras talagang mag-all-out dating? Kita mo nga, nagtatrabaho [sa New Year Countdown], doon na lang kami nag-date,” natatawa niyang pahayag.

    What exactly is their status?

“We’re getting to know each other. Wala pang… I don’t wanna say there’s no depth to it but I can’t say what’s happening.

“It’s just I’m interested but like I said, I don’t want to jinx it.

"I don’t want to put any labels to anything,” muli niyang paglinaw.

“But for now there’s so many things coming my way and I have to prioritize that now. Everything naman falls into place at the right time,” pagklaro pa niya.

Natatawang sagot ni Derek, “We’ll use another word but means the same thing.”

VENTURING INTO COMEDY.

Talagang I’m really venturing and trying new things.

“Gusto kong ma-test yung sarili ko with my versatility as an actor, so kahit na nakakatakot, I don’t know anything about comedy, susubukan ko.”

“I’m not an expert comedian or a talented comedian like Empoy and John, pero sinasabayan ko sila with what I know.

“I bring life to my character pero hindi ako ima-magnify as in what they do with their characters, so I just have to be very attentive.

“Yung comedy talaga nanggagaling kay Empoy at kay John, I’m just playing my part, so I’m just a little piece of the puzzle.”

Inamin ni Derek na dito sa Mac & Chiz, first time na hindi siya makatingin sa kaeksenang si Empoy. Bakit?

“You know, he’s just naturally funny. I’m not saying funny-looking ha?

“He just exudes comedy, he’s so funny.

“Napaka-witty niya, ang bilis niyang mag-isip, and I don’t think you can find anyone who can not laugh when you sit down with Empoy. He’s just naturally a funny guy.”

MORE MOVIES.

“I think I’m gonna do a sequel to English Only Please. Then Viva Films wants to do a film with Jen and I.

“So I might do two films with Jennylyn this year. And then the Kris movie. And I have the Marine movie, marami kami doon, it’s an indie film about the Philippine Marines.

“And then there’s an offer with Skylight Films, yung kay Direk Toto Natividad.

“So I get to work with somebody new again, that’s exciting. Parang suspense thriller yata yun.”

Posible kayang this year ipalabas ang sequel ng English Only Please at isali ulit sa MMFF?

“They just said there’s definitely gonna be a sequel pero I don’t know if it is going to be shown this year o isasali ulit sa MMFF,” pagkumpirma niya.

Jasmine Curtis-Smith douses network transfer rumors: “I am still a Kapatid and I have no complaints..."
    By Ruel J. Mendoza
    01/24/15 07:04 pm

STILL WITH TV5.

“I flew back to Australia for the Christmas holidays.

“Nagkaroon kami ng reunion with our other relatives.

“But it turned out na binitin din nila ang sagot, not until ma-confirm ang mga magiging shows ko with TV5.

“I am still a Kapatid and I have no complaints with the projects they have been giving me.

So it means that I am still with TV5,” ngiti pa ni Jasmine.

HOW THE RUMOR STARTED.

“Yes, I have a special role sa movie na Halik Sa Hangin.

“Pinaalam naman namin iyon with TV5 at pumayag naman sila. It’s just a small role naman.

“Yun lang naman iyon. Wala naman akong gagawin na show with ABS-CBN because they know that I am still with TV5,” paglinaw niya.

OPEN TO WORKING WITH ANYONE.

Ayon kay Jasmine, “I'm a person who's willing to work with anyone in the business.

“Controversies come and go in this business. We can't let it affect our workmanship kasi unprofessional na po iyon.

    Derek Ramsay and Empoy

Derek Ramsay is starting the year with his first ever sitcom in “Mac & Chiz”, which teams him up with comedian Empoy Marquez who believe it or not, plays his twin brother. Even more surprising is the fact that in the series, it is Empoy who is considered the babe magnet, not Derek.

Mark Bautista and Cris Villonco topbill Bituing Walang Ningning The Musical; producers looking for actress to fill in Sharon Cuneta's shoes
    By James Patrick Anarcon
    01/29/15 09:10 pm

Three decades after it was first seen in cinemas, the Sharon Cuneta classic film Bituing Walang Ningning will be adapted into a musical play.

Mark Bautista and Cris Villonco were chosen to portray the roles of Nico and Lavinia, respectively, in the theater version to be staged at Resorts World Manila soon.

The manager Nico Escobar was originally played by Christopher de Leon in the movie version.

Meanwhile, Cherie Gil was the original actress who portrayed the villainess Lavinia Arguelles. The role of Lavinia became iconic when she told an innocent Dorina (played by Sharon), “You’re nothing, but a second-rate, trying hard, copycat!” before splashing a glass of wine on her rival’s face.

Bituing Walang Ningning The Musical is helmed by concert and theater director Freddie Santos.

The movie was based on a serialized comic strip by Nerissa Cabral. In 1985, Viva Films released the movie starring Sharon as the sampaguita vendor-turned-singer Dorina Pineda and her fierce rival Lavinia (played by Cherie Gil).

In 2006, it was also adapted for television with Sarah Geronimo playing Dorina and Angelika dela Cruz as Lavinia.

During the press launch of the 2015 Imperial Festival held yesterday, January 29, it was revealed that Viva Communications inked a partnership with Resorts World Manila (RWM) for the theater adaptation of the classic drama.

AUDITIONS TO BE HELD FOR DORINA ROLE. Who will fill in the shoes of Sharon Cuneta?

To answer this question, a series of auditions will kick off this February as producers search for the next Dorina.

RWM and VIVA will hold auditions for the role. According to Direk Freddie, they will be holding their auditions at the The Plaza in New Port Mall for a reason: to show the over-all impact of the girl.

“We are holding the auditions in the atrium, the huge atrium at Resorts World.

“And there is one reason for that: to feel the impact of this girl.

“The impact of her voice when she sings, the clarity of her speech when she talks, but more than anything, the impact that her whole persona brings.

“That is the most important for us: that star quality is the most important, that’s what we’re looking for.”

As such, they will hold auditions on February 28 and March 1. The auditions are open for both amateur and professional artists between 16 to 20 years old.

Besides bagging the lead role of Dorina, the lucky girl will get a P1 million worth of movie and recording contract with Viva.

CRIS AND MARK AS LEAD STARS. As early as now, Cris and Mark are both preparing for their roles.

Mark pointed out: “I haven’t watched the film, and I’m not planning to watch it.

“So I have to read the script and start from zero."

He also told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that he is feeling the pressure of living up to the standards set by his predecessor.

“And malay mo, baka manood siya nito. Opening night, manuod siya, i-invite yung cast or something, I don’t know.

“So kailangan kong pagbutihan at sana magampanan ko ng maayos yung version namin.”

For her part, Cris is very excited to do another kontrabida role. She is currently seen on TV as Lorraine in the GMA-7 afternoon soap opera Ang Lihim ni Annasandra.

“One thing that I love about theater in such a long period of time is that the lead directors were able to give me my own playground to do different roles. I got Maria and I actually got to work with Mark [Bautista] in Noli Me Tangere as Maria Clara.

“And now that I’m venturing into more of film and TV, other people are actually giving me the chance to experiment and become a kontrabida.”

The granddaughter of musical legend Armida Siguion-Reyna also admitted that she likes showing her feisty side, just like her lola.

“A lot of people think that I’m very nice, because of my angelic face, but it can fool a lot of people.

“Again, my middle name is Siguion-Reyna, and my middlest-middle name is Ponce-Enrile.

“So I think I got something from there, right? Whenever I do my mean face, it comes out.”

DIFFERENCE FROM ORIGINAL MOVIE. Cris excitedly shared that their version might be bigger than its previous versions – most especially with the songs that they will use for the musical.

“Because with the songs that will be part of this show, it will cross generations,” she explained.

“And definitely, Bituing Walang Ningning, it’s about the glitz, the glamour and the behind-the-scenes of being a star.

“So what better way to do it than in a very big stage that will show a lot of spectacular things and fabulosity.

“So I think it’s the perfect, perfect venue to have Bituing Walang Ningning.

“And what’s even better, it’s a Philippine production.

“And from a little tidbit of information that I received, with the songs, it’s beautiful, beautiful.

“I have a feeling people will watch this, again and again, just to listen to how beautiful those songs were.”

Director Freddie also re-affirmed Cris’ statement about the songs that they will use.

“All the music is OPM. I know that in the film clip earlier, you saw Sharon singing covers, but no, that was then, that was in 1984.

“But today, we have such a wealth of the music of Willy Cruz, so all his songs are throughout this show, that’s why Cris is so enamored because the music is so spectacular and beautiful.”

He also said that they will be faithful to the movie version but they also made a few changes in the theater adaptation.

“We are following the general plotline of the movie, because we want to pay respect to both Nerissa Cabral and Direk Maning Borlaza.

“But also because this is the stage, some parts need to be enlarged, enhanced, para mas maging malinaw yung conflict and that’s what we’ve done with the script so far.”

The musical will mark the first time that a contemporary drama has been created and adapted into different Filipino media platforms – from print, movie, television, and now in theater.

For more information about RWM shows and events visit www.rwmanila.com or call Tel. No. 908-8833. You can also visit www.rwmanila.com/bituingwalangningning for more information about the musical and the auditions for the role of Dorina.

Nora at Vilma, hinog na para pagsamahin muli
Sharon, dapat makipag-duet kina Daniel at Kathryn

Slowly but surely raw ang quest to reclaim her alindog at soon, merong pasabog at payanig si Ate Shawie.

May nagsabi, “It will be wonderful if she comes out with a duets album, ‘yun parang Partners ni Barbra Streisand.

“Mas bongga-bongga if she does a trio with Sarah Geronimo and that little Lyca girl as they sing Pangarap na Bituin.”

Isa pang panalong idea, “At kapag sexy na ulit si Madam Chairman, pangabog kung ang come back movie niya eh with the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano.

“During their reign, never pinagsama sina Ate Shawie at Marya.”

Ang maganda na maging directed by of the Cuneta & Soriano film ay si Carlitos Siguion Reyna because, “Inay Marya, gave her best performances under direk Carlitos.

“And si Sharon, eh hindi pa nakakapagtrabaho with Carlitos kaya exciting at challenging ito for her.

Kung may producer man who will be willing to gamble sa isang major film project na bida sina Maricel at Sharon, paano ang billing?

Higit sa lahat, ano ang storyline? May suggestion ba kayo, dear readers?

    ***

Sa pelikulang Ikaw ay Akin directed by the late great Ishmael Bernal, memorable ang confrontation scene nina Ate Guy at Ate Vi.

Wala itong linya. Parang they were sizing up each other, at pagalingan lang sa pag-e-emote.
