  • AFAIK halos lahat ng mga generation 90's and later models na sasakyan from japan ay maganda ang galvanizing, triple dip ata tawag nila. Pansinin mo walang kinakalawang na civic, corolla, lancer na 90's AS LONG AS ALAGA PINTURA, meaning di nakabilad sa labas ng bahay 24hrs para masira pintura at pag nag fail ito exposed sa elements and start yung rust.
I can attest to this sa civic ko na 97 model, may kalawang dun sa may ilalim na tinamaan ng bato, under seam sa pintuan kasi sumayad sa sidewalk, etc.
Problema po sa mga undercoat kasi pag hindi maganda gawa at ill-prepared yung papatungan, rust will grow even underneath the coating, mas malala pa nga kasi pag paint madali lumabas kalawang, pag naka undercoat matagal, by the time halata na siya malaki na butas nagawa ng rust.
My personal experience is just to have an underwash done first to get rid of mud and dry road grime, then inspect your under body panels. If you can, you can spray paint it using those aerosol cans to add paint and protection, which is what I do. Just use the nearest color of your car body, obviously just spray sa ilalim ng sasakyan and wheel wells, not your carbody, ibang usapan na yan.

Yung mga may tama na ng kalawang, depending on severity dapat i-treat, if superficial lang I sand it til rust is gone, then use a bit of primer then paint. Pag malalim na ang rust use rust converter, leave overnight, then if you can, wash the treated part with some water to stop the chemical reaction, then dry before prime then paint. Etching primer is used pag bare metal na malaki para kumapit sa metal.

Yup, no need really. Its better to keep your car undersides clean by having an thorough underwash once or twice a year.
  • Vehicles come out of the factory undercoated. Unless you did some floorpan or wheel well repairs, its not really necessary to do another coating.

If there's any added value to undercoating your wheel wells, it adds to road noise reduction.
Personally if I buy a new car babaklasin ko door cards to access the insides and inspect the 'drainage' design ng doors, lahat ng seams lagyan ng gasket maker para di maipon tubig sa singit, at pinturahan - no joke. Even underheath the carbody madaming pwedeng pagipunan ng putik at tubig, what I do personally is use vulcaseal, then apply paint. Who cares kung pangit tingnan importante maprotektahan ang body from rust and unecessary road grime. Also check underneath carpets, magaling magtago ng kalawang kaya dapat tingnan ng maigi.

Rust can be treated, the earlier the better, preventive maintenance lang po.

Sorry marami akong nasabi, OC ako pagdating sa kalawang.
  • ^It rarely ever rains in California.
  • Pag gunggong gumawa ng undercoat and rust proofing baka spray sa loob ng pinto, barado yung drain holes, ipon ng tubig, kalawang!

I suggest to new owners if youre a DIY guy, remove door cards and examine the drainage carefully, spray with paint yung bare metal if merun and lagyan ng sealant/ gasket maker yung mga singit.
