BARAKO BULL PARADES NEW IMPORT IN Q’FINALS OPENER AGAINST ACES

    040112%20Barako%20vs%20Alaska%20(04-01-12)_header.jpg

A return to respectability is what Alaska Milk and Barako Bull have in mind when they start their
best-of-three quarterfinals duel in the PBA Commissioners Cup.

The Aces, now handled by head coach Joel Banal, crashed out of the Philippine Cup where they placed
ninth as they struggled under a new system.

Banal, who replaced Tim Cone at the start of the season, had since junked the triangle offense and
went to a more upbeat run-and-gun in the Commissioner's Cup thereby gaining the desired acceptance
    and result.

Alaska Milk finished the elimination round with a 5-4 record capped by a come-from-behind 102-100
win over the powerade Tigers. In that contest, the Aces trailed by 16 points, 92-76 in the last five
and a half minutes of regulation. They stepped up on defense and went on a 16-0 run to knot the
score and send the match into an extra five minutes.

Adam Parada followed up a missed shot by Cyrus Baguio with a second to go to give Alaska Milk the
win and the push into the quarterfinals.

The 7-0 Parada, who is on his second tour of duty in the PBA, having played for Red Bull back in
2007, will still be at the forefront of Alaska Milk’s attack.

He will go up against a new import in 6-10 Chukwunike Okosa, a native of Claymont, Delaware. Okosa,
who played college ball for the Virginia Commonwealth and the La Salle Explorers, came in as a
    replacement for Rodney White.

This could be a touchy situation for Barako Bull which allowed White to return to the United States
    to settle a family problem.

The Energy’s chances of putting up a good fight will depend on how quickly Okosa can adjust to his
    teammates.

Okosa is a actually the third import for Barako Bull who started out with Dermarr Johnson.

In fact, Johnson led the Energy to a 98-78 win over Alaska Milk in the opening game of the
tournament. Johnson suffered a groin injury in the game between the Energy and Rain Or Shine in
Dubai, United Arab Emirates last February 23. That led Barako Bull to look for a replacement and the
Energy found a gem in White who led them to three wins in six games.

Barako Bull actually tied Meralco and Powerade for fifth spot at 4-5 at the end of the elims. But
because the Energy win over the Tigers (101-91) and the Bolts (89-82), they went straight to the
quarterfinals leaving Meralco and Powerade to dispute the last ticket.

Coach Edmundo “Junel” Baculi is hoping to make his first semifinals appearance. he led Barako
Buli to the quarterfinals in the Philippine Cup against eventual champion Talk N Text which had a
twice-to-beat advantage. Barako Bull was not able to forge a sudden-death match with the Tropang
Texters and were booted out at once.

Baculi will be leaning on two-time Most Valuable Player Willie Miller who wil be supported by Danny
Seigle, Ronald Tubid, Don Allado, Dorian Pena and Mick Pennisi who has found fame following a
delayed flop after being hit on the head by a ball thrown by Will McDonald in a game against the
Petron Blaze Boosters two weeks ago.

Aside from Parada, mainstays on Banal’s starting unit are LA Tenorio, Cyrus Baguio, Bonbon
    Custodio and Joaquim Thoss.

Winner of the series between the Aces and the Energy will go up against Talk N Text in the
best-of-five semifinals after the Holy Week.

sana makaisa man lang, barako bull in 2.

BArako has the tools to beat Alaska but the Aces if only they will play solid basketball and big contribution coming from Tenorio, Thoss and the import.....it's going to be an easy ride for the Aces to be in the semis.

If Alaska play this thing seriously from hereon surely an easy series. But with the way the season goes for Alaska (a lot of their star players selling themselves to richer teams) Barako has too many veterans to take advantage Alaska's weaknesses. Don't get me wrong Alaska has the strongest talent, biggest front court and one of the solid back court the past two seasons..

if cb3,and custodio will be consitent in scoring bigtime this series it will be alaska, pero kung si L.A, parada and thoss lang wala na tayong pag asa.. and if we really want to be in the semis Jay r reyes really needs to step up lalo na kung nagpapahinga si thoss at parada, eric salamat should step as well sya pa naman ang kapalit ni L.A sa PG post.. also Mac baracael we need his scoring, his throwing bricks this season, kung ang laro lang niya sana ngayon eh kasing ganda ng laro niya last phil. cup eh pasok na tayo sa semis panigurado.. hayz.. I don't wanna set my hopes to high, pero sana maka semis man lang tayo ok na ako..:depressed:

hope alaska will be eliminated. To have high pick this coming draft. technically if aver theyll be eliminated.. they're still in the top 3 since they were dead last in the recent all fil cup.
