Top Shell players of all-time

sydrifiedsydrified PEx Rookie ⭐
we all know na ang big three ng shell ay sina paras, magsanoc, at parks pero if you're going to do a top ten, who will you pick?

1 paras
2 magsanoc
3 parks
4 pablo
5 jackson
6 esplana
7 dela cruz
8 austria
9 marzan
10 adornado

marzan was a role player for the squad pero for ten seasons, he was a consistent quality defensive player.

kasama si parks? kasali din dapat si john best at kenny redfield, frederick "the project" canlas, at joel "el aparador" dualan. peter naron and richie ticzon were also key players.

Calvin Tuadles was also a favorite - hardnosed and hardworking din. Another player that comes to mind is Mulong Orillosa. Ganoon din siya. A bruiser who hustles for the ball. Romy dela Rosa was also one of my faves.

As you can see, yung mga gusto kong Shell players ay yung mga role players lang.

    :)

Yes, Rey Lazaro was part of a star-studded Shell lineup when they joined the PBA in 1985. Note that Shell almost won the AFC title for that year, barely losing to Great Taste in 4 games in a Best of 5.

Shell had veteran stars Bogs Adornado, Philip Cezar, Bay Cristobal and Bernard Fabiosa, as well as Lazaro, rookies Sonny Cabatu, Leo Austria, Menardo Jubinal, Romy Ang, among others...

Sa Purefoods at Pop Cola mas kilala si Solis sir. Saka hindi ko natatandaan na nag-Shell siya.

Al Solis was drafted 2nd overall in the 1987 PBA rookie draft, just behind the top pick, Allan Caidic. Solis was taken in by Shell but moved to Purefoods a couple of seasons after.

And yes, I agree that Solis' best years were with Purefoods and more particularly, with Swift. Likewise, I wouldn't count Bogs Adornado since he only played one season for the then Shell Azodrin Bugbusters.

there are only four shell players that made the pba's mythical 5 and adornado is one of them alongside paras, magsanoc and pablo. for the mythical ten, we have cezar, paras, pablo, magsanoc, telan, and dela cruz. :)

Para sa akin shempre #1 si Tower of Power, BENJIE PARAS. Rookie-MVP. Nuff said.

Then here comes: Magsanoc, Pablo, CJacson and Esplana.

I won't deny the fact that awards and recognitions are good indicators of determining a player's legacy for his team. Adornado's seventh inclusion in the Mythical 5 while playing for Shell on their maiden season was truly marvelous, since I believe he averaged in the mid-20's back then.

But the impact of Adornado to Shell's franchise is only good for a season. He moved to Alaska immediately after where he eventually became a coach himself. He may have been the country's top small forward back in 1985 as a Bugbuster but it would take more than just a Mythical 5 selection to get him included in the list. Adornado would definitely be the best U/Tex Wrangler of all time with Lim Eng Beng as second best, and will be included in Great Taste's Top 10 list of all-time best players as well, alongside Ricky Brown, Allan Caidic, Manny Victorino, Abe King, Arnie Tuadles, etc.

But to count him as one of the Top 10 best players of Shell just because of his Mythical 5 inclusion in the 1985 season would undermine the efforts of other players who have stayed longer for the franchise and gave more to the team. Arnie Tuadles, who played for Shell when Dante Silverio secured his services, was one of the vital cogs for Shell's winning its first title ever in the 1990 Open, at the expense of Anejo Rum 65. In the semifinals, he gave a neat karate chop on Leo Isaac which broke the arm of the Anejo defensive whiz. Isaac was the 65ers' matchup to Ronnie Magsanoc and we all know how the Point Laureate went berserk in that Finals game where Anejo walked out in Game 6.

Romy Dela Rosa is another. He will never be part of a Mythical 5, since he was the 3rd of 4th option of the team, next to Paras, Magsanoc and Tuadles. But Dela Rosa's contribution was definitely more noteworthy since he was a key player of Shell's two titles in 1990 and 1992 and runnerup finish in 1991. These accomplishments will never be in the record books and will not be familiar to those that were young enough to see him play but Shell would have found difficulty winning their titles without Dela Rosa ably backing up Paras in the interior.

I've always felt that Abe King is the best prototype power forward in PBA history. Yet, younger fans will never be able to truly appreciate King's game because his record stands at 1 Mythical First Team inclusion and 1 Mythical Second Team inclusion. If we base everything on their player achievements, King will not even merit mention among the Top 10 all-time power forwards in PBA history.
  • Definitely, Romy Dela Rosa should make any Shell tops list.

The guy can score in many ways, despite having that funky looking shot ..... very underrated indeed.

OT: His brother Ruben Dela Rosa was a different story altogether ..... had the amateur hype and had mad hops to make it big in the pros.

Sadly, he just couldn't overcome his overeagerness/gigil during games ..... great athleticism wasted.

    Salamat sir.*okay*

So before pala pumasok sa liga ang Purefoods nasa Shell si Solis. Parang unang panood ko kasi sa Purefoods (second conference-pagpasok ni Patrimonio) ay nandun na si Solis.
