My dilemma: Hyundai Accent vs Honda City vs Ford Fiesta

due to rising fuel and maintenance costs, i'm currently contemplating the possibility of giving up my old model Toyota Camry in favor of a brand-new small car. while i always have my "good reliable" diesel-fueled 2008 Toyota Innova as an alternate to the Camry, i can't take it along with me that often since it's more of a "business ride" to me.

as a replacement to my Toyota Camry, i'm thinking of three models: the higher-end variant of the Hyundai Accent, the higher-end variant of the Honda City and a sedan version of the Ford Fiesta. however, i admit that i'm in some sort of a dilemma right now since all of these three cars are very good and enjoy good reviews.

which among the Hyundai Accent, Honda City and Ford Fiesta will be the best buy for me? i am looking for a small car that will not only enable me to save on fuel and maintenance costs and is comfortable to drive but also looks good, roomy and is "not girly" (which is why i am not looking on hatchbacks, especially Honda Jazz).

    ^ thanks for the tip.

i have all the respect for the Honda City. in fact, sa Honda City talaga ako pinakakumikiling sa ngayon kaya lang medyo naliliitan ako dun. yung Hyundai Accent kasi, medyo roomy kumpara sa Honda City pero di naman papatalo ang Honda City kung porma din lang ang pag-uusapan.

yung Ford Fiesta kasi, wala pa akong feedback. among the Ford cars, yung Ford Focus, especially its diesel variant, ang pinakagusto ko.

maganda ba yung Toyota Altis E? may automatic ba?

^ thanks again for the tip. :)

yung Honda City kasi, well-established na talaga compared to the Ford Fiesta and the Hyundai Accent. one can never go wrong getting either a Toyota or a Honda here in the Philippines but you will just like be everybody else here who drives either a Toyota or a Honda.

kumakatok daw ang makina ng Hyundai Accent? in fairness, maporma ang Accent, especially its top-of-the-line variant. the Accent is also roomier than the City.

:glee:

The Altis matic variant comes in at the G model. It's around 890K less 20-30K discount usually. I'm picking up my new E (6-speed m/t) right after work and this will replace my daily drive 07 Altis. Very straightforward to maintain and is relatively efficient, with good power for the highway drives so i decided to pluck down for another Altis. I got it for 804K, less 20K discount plus some freebies. I used to get larger discounts from Toyota (30-60K off) but the production slowdown in Thailand, along with the non-selling Civic and out-of-stock Accent affected unit surplus so Toyota isnt giving much discount these past few months for the Altis.

Amongst your choices, i'd go with either the City or Accent. The Fiesta may be a little iffy mainly due to the probability parts and service will be pricier (you may want to check on that before deciding). My main gripe with the current City is that i usually found Hondas to be lacking in sound insulation and when I unintentionally went over a deep pothole at a very low speed in a parking lot one night with a friend's brand new City, the sound the suspension gave out was a very cheap, metallic "clunk".

^ thanks for the tip! :)

i haven't tried test driving a City. my sister drives a Jazz and i also heard that some sort of a nasty sound, although i didn't mind it much.

well anyway, some friends of mine on Facebook said that if i'm going to choose the City, i should go for the Civic instead. pareho lang naman daw kasi ng monthly payments. :?:

re: the Altis, i believe that no one will go wrong with a Toyota as far as the Philippine setting is concerned. 'di problema ang parts and service tapos proven na sa performance. i might also look at the Altis, but i still prefer driving an automatic transmission variant.

Yang vios i believe yung 1.5 kaya nyan mag 15+km per liter city depending on your foot. IMO I'd close my doors to accent, fiesta and focus. *okay*

thank you for the tips everyone! i learned a lot from all of you. :)

i dunno with the Hyundai Accent. while the Honda City and Toyota Vios continue to dominate the subcompact segment, the Accent is slowly making its way up. HARI should really address these issues involving the Accent ASAP or they'll be flooded with a lot of complaints and claims.

i'm just wondering though if other Hyundai sedans such as the Elantra and Sonata have the same issues as the Accent. baka naman kasi limited lang sa Accent yung problema.

it seems like my choice will be narrowed down to the Honda City and the Toyota Altis G. i guess no one will go wrong considering these two nice cars given their good resale value, and ease of availability of parts and service. :)

for the elantra AFAIK walang knocking sound issues pa.. it's good looking tho, and it's fast too. Altis or city ok yan. My 03 altis' ride is far better than my civic fd.. ibang iba ang talbog sa lubak at humps.. pati aircon nung altis number one lang sobrang lamig na, yung FD kailangan nasa gitna para maramdaman mo pa yung aircon. haha pati consumption ok din altis, resale value i think mag iimprove na ang sa altis, since tinanggal na ng toyota ang J variant ng altis nila. It starts now at E.. And the best part is Dual vvti na siya. *okay*
  • hi ts, share ko lang baka makatulong sa pagpili mo, we own a ford fiesta sports (hatchback a/t powershift), from mla to baguio consumption nasa 12km/liter , sa speed at accelereation wala ka problema di ka bibitinin, stable kahit 160km/h ang speed, cons lang medyo maliit lang talaga, yung pagrecline sa upuan may pipihitin ka sa side, pag naka lock na yung door mabubuksan pa din kahit nasa loob.

i have yet to hear feedback from Elantra owners. the Elantra really looks nice but there is not much available information or comments as to how the car performs on actual road conditions and in terms of fuel and maintenance costs.

between the automatic Altis G and the automatic City, i might opt for the former. kung pareho lang naman ang babayaran ko monthly, then mag-Altis G na siguro ako since it's a bigger but relatively-sized car and walang problema ang Toyota kung parts lang ang pag-uusapan. the Corolla Altis is also the type of car that you can use for a very long time, although hindi naman siguro papatalo ang Honda City sa bagay na yan.

    hi! :)

thank you for the response. i truly appreciate it.

so relatively matipid pa din pala sa gas ang Ford Fiesta? based on the Ford Fiesta hatchbacks that i see on the city's roads virtually on a daily basis, medyo maliit siya. i'm a guy na medyo malaki ang body built kaya nga niloloko ako ng mga kaibigan ko na hindi daw ako bagay sa mga sasakyan kagaya ng Hyundai Getz at nung maliit na Chery.

yung altis ko kaya more than 12km per liter city driving. hehe :bashful:

*okay*

So altis, city , or elantra... hehe *okay*

    we'll see. :)

so far, i'm narrowing down my choices on the following: (1) Toyota Corolla Altis G automatic, (2) Honda City automatic, and, (3) to some extent, Honda Civic 1.8S automatic.

i'm giving the Ford Fiesta another look. hindi ko pa talaga nakikita ang kotse na yan nang malapitan eh.

as for the Elantra, maybe hindi pa ngayon lalabas ang problema niyan. kahit yung Sonata nga, wala pa din bad comments eh.

    we'll see. :)

nice. yung civic na bago sir above 1m ata price nun, japan made kasi. hehe *okay*

    Super Safari - pang probinsya

:naughty:
