Actually its the same argument if the govt should put taxes on liquor, gambling, sports car etc or as we call luxury tax.

Our govt considers international travel as luxury and I guess most travellers have the same argument regarding this issue.

What is curious is that amount of Php1,620 has never been increased all these decades. The amount may have been a princely sum in the 80s. It should have been eroded by inflation many times over and nobody should mind paying the amount today. Imagine if they had repeatedly increased it over the decades.

Anyway, if we really want it eliminated or reduced (along with the airport tax, somebody should start a campaign and/or bring this matter to the attention of our lawmakers. Get the law repealed and that would be the end of it.
  • sana nga magdecrease ang price ng travel tax since since terminal fee for intl flights had been reduced to P550. sana magtayo ng partylist ang mga travel bloggers para may maglobby for cheaper airfare and travel tax since those corrupt gov't officials don't care about these issues because they have enormous amount of money to spend on travelling and shopping.:D :bop:
  • too lazy to search. any background of this travel tax? is it a law or a circular/memo, etc?

What Ive read from the omission of the 200 pesos is that it was introduced to fund security measures for NAIA for a certain period, anyway thats what I understand about it..

travel tax have been place in time of Marcos to discourage Filipinos to travel abroad so that it keeps the fil currency here in the phil. brilliant plan actually but not really applicable now.

ano ba yun? kung exempted, dapat exempted all the way!

    1,620 + 550 = Php 2,170.00

laking sayang din nyan ha. Tapos ibabalik yung terminal fee na 750! PAG BY THE END OF THE YEAR OR PAG NEXT YEAR WALA AKO NAKITANG PAGBABAGO SA AIRPORT NATIN, Isa na talaga ako sa gagawa ng movement!

If I can remember it correctly, sa NAIA Terminal 1 e pwede kang maka check-in even without the travel tax receipt so kung di magcheck un guard before entering the immigration, lusot ka. Sa Terminal 3 kasi last time I flew with them na international, hinihingi muna nila resibo ng travel tax bago ka bigyan ng boarding pass.

Dating back from the Commonwealth era! LOL
As mandated by the law, the taxes are divided among the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprize Zone Authority (TIEZA), the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Commission for Higher Education (CHED) for use in government programs.

    http://globalnation.inquirer.net/cebudailynews/enterprise/view/20100903-290289/Paying-travel-tax

Stamp tax on passage tickets (Section 228 of Commonwealth Act No. 466)

    and more list of laws:
    REPUBLIC ACT No. 1478
    REPUBLIC ACT NO. 6141
    PRESIDENTIAL DECREE No. 1183
    PRESIDENTIAL DECREE No. 1205
    BATAS PAMBANSA BILANG. 38
    EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 283
    EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 499
  • AGAIN, this is a VERY BIG AMOUNT DIRECT TAXATION. Good for you kung wala kang angal. Also, good for you if the other WESTERN and rich countries incorporate it on the tickets. but for this country, it is ANTI-POOR to impose such a big amount lalo na kung nakikita mo na wala namang kinapupuntahan ang taxes na to! this is shared by PhilTourismAuthority,DepEd,etc etc..and the purpose of the law is to discourage people to travel abroad for tours so US dollars are not spent abroad. that is the sole purpose of that law, no more no less and that was at the height of the dollar and oil crisis. E iba na ang panahon. iba na rin ang situation ngayon. but our law makers supported by propaganda chose to instead focus on useless political chatter rather than make concrete steps to really help the people.

Anti-poor because yung iba, naka avail ng murang fare sa mga budget airlines, and the budget airlines kaya nga tinawag na ganun should help lobby din. you cannot as a govt collectively impose on the middle class na yung mga rich and can afford lang ang mag tour abroad. it is unfair and an injustice!!!!makibaka wag matakot aahahhaa*okay*

Grabe ang init sq terminal 2 intl last friday.

and how this relates to travel tax???
  • @travel lifestyle

pero ang bansa natin pro-poor well for the side of DOLE. i dont know sa side ng travel.
