Jazz, CRV, Tucson or Yaris?

Hi guys, I hope I can get some suggestions from you. Buying my first car soon. I'm a girl and this would be my first time driving. My budget ranges from the Yaris to the CRV. Though I am inclined to get either the Jazz or the Yaris mainly because I like how they look. I think the size is just right for city driving, though I'd want a car that can ably take me to as far as Baguio if I ever muster up the courage to go there.

I just want to ask - and please forgive me if these are stupid questions --- if I get a car as small as the Jazz/Yaris, are there limitations? I mean, if say I go up a steep road or pass through undeveloped roads (bato-bato) would it be more difficult than if I was driving a CRV or Tucson? Specs say 1.5, 1.6...and so on. I think this represents gas capacity? It doesn't have anything to do with engine power?

Say I get either the CRV or Tucson, would getting the 2WD be okay for city driving?

Sorry, sorry...I really have no clue. It's just my mom and me here, no male presence and no one to advise us. I figured I better ask around from objective sources than get sweet-talked by some car salesman.

Thank you :)

ang advantage ng small car madali mag park . just get the jazz over the yaris if you want a compact car ..
  • kung minsan pupunta ka ng Bagiuo, tucson na kunin mo. mas safer sa long distance ang medyo malaking sasakyan. ang crv medyo may katakawan sa gas. as much as possible diesel ang sasakyan sa taas ng presyo ng gasolina, and diesel has come a long way; parang de-gasolina na rin ang hatak at pino ng andar. kung city use, dapat 4x2 lang at automatic dahil ang transfer case ng 4x4 dagdag pa sa load ng makina, which translates to more fuel consumption.
  • get a bigger vehicle if you plan to go out of town.

a bigger vehicle is always safer for occupants inside.

  • go for Tucson. ok naman looks nun

kung once a year lang naman ang long drives mo eh just get the jazz. if it's something like once or twice a month, get the tucson na lang.

Thank you. Kung looks lang ang paguusapan I like the Jazz and Tucson the most. But someone told me na hindi kasing sikat ng mga Toyota, Honda, Ford ang Hyundai and in the event daw na masira, I might have a difficult time sa parts and whatnot.

    Good point, thank you

Thank you. Yeah, yung long drives ay iffy pa. Siguro the farthest I would drive to would be Laguna/Tagaytay/Batangas or Subic (I live in Paranaque). Yung Baguio ay ilusyon ko lang

Would the Jazz make it ably to Tagaytay?
  • of course i have a civic and a jazz 2010 model kahit batangas pa aabot yan tipid pa. hope you make the right decision. cheers
  • If for city driving, compact cars are easier to maneuver and park. Consumption would also be an advantage.

For safety, space and for flood prone area the bigger cars have the advantage.

If you don't pass this baha area the Jazz would be a good choice. While for out of town, flooded roads and high clearance for your vehicle not minding fuel consumption, The CRV or Tucson would be a better option.

Just to give you an insight, Use a small car as a daily use. Enjoyed it cause size is compact easy to pass vehicles through traffic and obviously consumption in fuel is one big advantage in Manila's traffic also in Paranaque. While for out of town trips, can't use the compact car anymore have to use my van just to accommodate things and stuff for three people. hth

Through the years enjoyed driving a 98 Toyota Tamaraw. Could transport 9 person up to Pagudpud. Fuel consumption a guzzler as it consumed a liter for every 5 kilometers. but loved it's clearance as I have never scratch it's bumpers from parkingg in malls or groceries, changing and crossing lanes if there's traffic. Parking in side streets if either going to an event or concert. For me clearance is an advantage, or probably it's just me.

Thank you. Good to know. I remember kasi my parents had a Toyota LiteAce before and when we went up to Baguio, nagbabaan pa kami ng car kasi hirap umakyat  Isip ko lang just in case may mga inclines sa provinces, baka mahirapan pag small car.

Thank you. Luckily, in our area in Paranaque, we've always been safe from floods. Pag city driving naman I'd usually just go to Alabang then farthest would be Greenhills area siguro.

Parang masyado po malaki yung Fortuner and di ba mas takaw tingin sa carjackers? :) 1.3m max na po ang budget ko.
  • medyo wala din akong tiwala sa hyundai dati dahil sa 1st gen starex na tambak ng problema, kinakalawang pa. but they have come a long way. my getz is now 4+ year old, maliksi pa at ni minsan walang trouble, and well I can't say anything about GC dahil paminsan-minsan lang ginagamit.

  • Tucson FTW!

Ang Liteace kasi mahina ang makina pero malaki ang kaha kaya kung pinuno mo ng passengers bound for Baguio and steep pa like Kennon road talagang hirap ito.

Kung puro Alabang and Greenhills ang lakad mo, good choice na talaga ang Jazz. Definitely the family have a bigger vehicle for out of town trips. :bop:

*okay*
  • check mo din ang ford escape 1.1m+ 2300cc gas ....

Try going first to the dealers and checking the cars of your choices. SUVs are nice and tall but can also be a bane on our tight roads and these are also carjack-prone.

Amongst your choices, i'd seriously consider the Jazz 1.5L. Efficient, good power and lots of nice, useable space inside.

SUV para maluwag. Tapos Diesel variant para tipid.

Re: Yaris. It's too old already and it's replacement here in the PH is just around the corner.

Re: Jazz. Baguio? Tagaytay? Pagudpud? Not a problem... its's all in the driving technique. Though it'll be easier if you using an A/T if you're not that experienced. The 1.3L is not that bad... but if you're only concerned about power then just go for the 1.5L variant. It can go through undeveloped roads if needed... though don't make it a habit as it'll destroy your suspension. There's a special edition Jazz that was imported from Japan right now:
    http://kotse.com/home/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=610:honda-jazz-special-edition&Itemid=197

2WD is good enough here in the PH for normal use. We don't get a snow here so the AWD of compact SUVs are a waste of money IMO.

Both the CR-V and Tucson are OK as well. Though why force yourself to buy an SUV if you like the smaller cars? Some of what you posted in justifying to buy an SUV are unfounded.
  • Thank you guys. I forgot to go back to this thread. I got myself the Jazz 1.5L. I'm loving it! Though I've only driven from Honda to my house, LOL. No regrets. Thank you very much for your inputs, I really appreciate it.

Good choice. And with the rising fuel prices you'll appreciate the Jazz even more.
