Pilipino Banks: News and Reviews

Hi, PEX people!

Kindly post your banking experiences here and your reviews na din sa rendered service nila....

To start with, i have accounts with:
BDO (jun 2002) cebu- banilad
RCBC (aug 2010) cdo- lapasan
MBTC (feb 2011) cdo-divisoria
BPI (mar 2011) cdo-divisoria
HSBC (apr 2011) cebu-ayala
PSB (sep 2011) butuan branch

1. HSBC:
I have my best banking experience with them (cebu branch)*okay* the best talaga ang service nila...well greeted ka pag pasok mo palang. i would say attentive sila sa clients nila and well taken care off ka sa kanila as clients...accomodating and amiable ang staffs...elegant ang dating ng ambiance sa loob ng banko..

2. BPI
Same with HSBC when it comes to service, yun nga lang maraming tao kadalasan....They are the first one to employ an electronic assistant to queue their clients kaya siguro ang bilis ng transaction turnovers nila...sa ibang banks kasi napasukan ko, ang haba ng pila at ang bagal ng service...at the best talaga ang no service charge nila for interbranch transactions!...laking tipid talaga!

3. BDO
sorry talaga, pacensya na,...wala akong masabing maganda sa bank na ito although i have been a client for almost a decade now...mabagal talaga ang serbisyo nila, hindi pa marunong ngumiti ang mga staffs nila, hindi accomodating ang dating ng mga staffs nila...(nasanay lang talaga siguro ako sa serbisyo ng E-PCI dati)...we find ways pa daw kunwari ang slogan nila.hahaha...ways to irritate yata ang ibig nilang sabihin...:D

4. METROBANK
can't say much about this bank dahil dalawang beses pa lang akong naka pagtransact sa kanila...mejo hindi ko lang gusto yuung ambiance sa loob nila parang hindi kasi banko ang dating..:D

5.RCBC
my second bank after bdo, eto din kasi ang banko ng naging first client ko, para hindi na ako nagpapa encash ng cheque payments kaya nag open nalang ako ng account sa kanila para less hassle na din...bale first bank ko sya having a business of my own...pangit ang ambiance sa loob dati pero ngayong napansin ko halos lahat ng RCBC new looks na lahat...WOW! ang ganda ng makeover nila...ok din lang staffs nila, ngumingiti din naman but not on par with HSBC but still better than BDO...

6. PS BANK
ok din ang ambiance sa loob talagang banko sya pag pasok mo...:)..every bank should be like PSB.!naks!...malinis tingnan at elegante ang dating...naging accomodating din naman ang dating ng mga staffs nila but i rarely transact with kasi malayo sa location ko...nag open lang ako ng account sa kanila kasi nga na enganyo ako sa ambiance nila.hehehe..:D

so far, almost always i transact with bdo and bpi but i am slowly shifting my funds to bpi now...sa ibang banks kasi halos lahat pang savings lang for a particular objective kaya hindi ako masyadong nakapag ta-transact sa kanila....

around june this year nag inquire ako sa citi savings bank sa jones avenue sa cebu how much is the initial deposit required as i am planning to put up a savings account with them- akalain nyo bang sinabihan ako- mga 1 million daw! halos malaglag ang mga mata ko pagka dinig ko nun!:rotflmao::rotflmao:susme!..1million?...paano yun? i need to save 1million so i could start saving with them?....grabe!:rotflmao::rotflmao:

hindi na ako umupo at talagang tumalikod na ako kung sino mang babae yun...i tried to exit the bank the soonest possible i could!

good for you pare!nice to hear that....ako naman, personally, wala naman akong masabing pangit sa bdo branch of account ko dahil i started my banking relationship with them while i was still in college and at that time E-PCI pa sila...naging maganda naman ang service nila as far as i could remember...feeling ko kilala narin nila ako (naks! assuming!):bop:...ako lang naman kasi yata yung client nila na parang yagit everytime i transact with them...:rotflmao:...
  • Ako? BDO... satisfied. Excellent service. Ang bilis ng turnover ng mga transactions ko even though malayo *** branch ko coz I'm staying here in Manila.

Wow...I eneded up giving commendations to their Marketing Officer at napromote pa sya...abot abot pasasalamat sa akin.

Anyway, I'm maintaining UITF, Savings, Optimum Saving, Current and Credit Card with them. Lalo sa credit card ko. Sabi ko, I need a card. They endorsed me, Dec. 6 approved. Dec 8 or 9, delivered :))

Another thing, parang nag iba service relations nila kasi talagang tumatawag pa sila kahit walang transactions assessing my financial needs. They're offering different products and services. Muntik na nga ako mapa-car loan. LOL
  • BDO
I grew up with PCI Bank (--> Equitable PCI --> BDO).

I like their UITF products (short minimum holding period), and enjoyed benefits from BDO rewards (just by having a BDO account).

Their email customer service is great. Though you have to wait at most 3 days for the latest reply.

Internet banking is secure (compared to PNB). They gave me pre-approved credit cards, for which, now I use as an added financial discipline.

Great presence all throughout the country.
One good thing about my branch right now, is that it's a small one, and I think there aren't much account holders, not too crowded. Office hours is 9-5pm (or 6?), compared to the usual banks that close at 3pm.

    BPI
I plan to open an account with them. Heard very good reviews, and when I visited a branch myself, was impressed with the officer assigned to me since she knows their products well. (Compared to BDO, employees at BPI are much more knowledgeable). I also like to invest in their Odyssey Funds, an aggressive fund compared to the usual UITF products among banks.

    PNB
Boring bank for me. Didn't like its internet banking. Very slow customer service (email) response. Products are so-so.

    Metrobank
I have opened initial accounts with them, but never had the chance to pursue on adding up my savings with them. I guess it just so happened that their branches are not conveniently accessible to me.

I have accounts with the following except the last bank:

BPI - best bank I've had so far with regards to customer service and products, though I cannot rate this bank too highly as they still fail at other areas, like - very busy BPI hotlines and courier having problems delivering my CC. I also think that this bank isn't at all favorable to youngsters because I think their jumpstart account at regular BPI branches just allows minimum of P500 withdrawals, doesn't come with a passbook and most importantly, the bank isn't open at weekends, where kids could empty their jars of coins (they can't deposit those in ATMs).

I also like their "bank anywhere" style - definitely saves me a lot of fees. I like also the easeness of encashing their checks, doing deposits and bills payments over the counter at any BPI branch.

Metrobank - customer service is not superb, but I opted to maintain a savings account here just to deposit the money I've accumulated in my alkansya. Sinabayan ko lang sa kid ko who is maintaining a fun savers account. Passbook kasi yun which she could withdraw at less than P500 (not like BPI's jumpstart) and one of the banks in our place is open at weekends and some bank holidays.

Internet banking, I think, is much more better and seem to have less downtime than BPI's. I see that they have included PAGIBIG and SSS as their billers, but I haven't tried paying through them. I could also control which account to use for bills payments, and control fund transfers between accounts.

Unionbank - another bank where customer service and tellers are not friendly. I just maintain an EON account here just to save on Paypal fee withdrawals. They are the only bank that I know that doesn't charge on incoming and outgoing local bank transfers.

Their internet banking is down quite often and too long. However, I appreciate the fact that you do not need to enroll 3rd party account to make payments.

Like BPI, you can deposit cash and checks free at any branch nationwide.

Landbank - I don't use much of this bank account, but I have to maintain it for PAGIBIG multipurpose loans. What I didn't like is I have to watch out this account every few months or so so that it doesn't go inactive/dormant.

Recently, there's a waiting time at their customer service. They had eliminated the very long lines at the bank tellers for quite sometime though, which is much better than the Metrobank's.

The only thing I like best at this bank is that, they have plenty of security guards and they really assist people at ATM machines. I feel more secured.

BDO - I used to have savings ATM accounts here but they were closed. I didn't like having my savings ATM automatically closed when balance reaches zero.

Also, customer service isn't great. They have also high bank service fees compared to other banks. It's something to watch out for when you have an account at this bank.

For online workers like me, this is quite an expensive bank to choose because they always charge around P200 to P250 when receiving funds from Paypal and other online sites.

  • BPI for most of my transactions. Very convenient and most of the branches are well situated within the city.

iBank way back then for my personal savings. Service was impeccable and the people were really friendly. Ngayon Unionbank na sila, ang pangit na. I just maintain a small savings account with them.
  • BPI meron silang sistema na ginagamit para mapadali ang transactions kaso maraming tao at bweshit ako sa serbisyo niya na just look at the website or brochure. kaya nga pumunta sa office nila para masagot at mas maintindihan ang nilalaman ng mga ads. *******!

Let me just say that the service quality you get at ANY BANK improves in direct proportion to the volume of business you give.

what i'm looking for in a bank is service that is not proportionate to how much you have in deposits. that's why i like bpi the best. they even send texts just to greet you a happy six-monthsary or a happy anniversary with them. aside from the service, i also find their iphone app kinda cute, although a bit plain.

...and products and services availed as well :)

...and how did you establish rapport with your Marketing Officer and Branch Manager during the account opening.

Yes. And if you started your relationship on the wrong foot, there are chances to remedy that because marketing officers and relationship managers get reassigned to other branches/regions. *okay*
  • Yeah...and that policy is what I hate the most.

One of UCPB's Christmas gifts this year is a bamboo-bodied 4GB USB flash drive. They are getting good at this. *okay*

Chinabank did not have individual giveaways this year. Instead they sent one bilao of pansit to the office. Free merienda for everyone that day. *okay*
