Seniors Playing Their Last Year in College

It's fitting to have a thread as a tribute to the players who will be exhausting their last playing year this season 87.

For San Beda this will be the last season ofDave Marcelo and King Lion Garvo Lanete.

Two homegrown bedans who help bring championship to San Beda during their High School and College Years!

Parting Shot at the end of the season Baby! lol:

  • SSC has one graduating player, Anthony Del Rio (THANK GOD!!!)
  • ^ +1..........
  • Si Villahermosa ng SBC last year na ng eligibility niya.

Pero knowing the Red Lions, he'll stay for a few more months sa school para maka-graduate.

let's clarify...magkaiba ang playing years/eligibility sa graduation...pwedeng tapos na ang eligibility mo pero di ka pa rin nakaka-graduate.

    Correct.

You can site Ateneo's Rabeh Al-Hussaini, who completed his 5th and final year in 2009 but wasn't able to graduate yet. Same can be said for Eric Salamat, who played his 5th and final year for Ateneo in 2010 but has yet to complete the required units for graduation.
  • ^^ano big deal dun kung magkaiba?

Graduating players(from the team) for San Sebastian are Anthony Del Rio and Jonathan Semira.

is the words student-athlete not a big deal for you?....these players are students too..as such they have the obligation to finish their course..hence the word Graduation....the one that you do every March or October of a given school year..that's a big deal.!

here's another big deal word..EDUCATION....that is why leagues like the NCAA are being staged..to promote EDUCATION thru sports!

OT ka na na naman! ang topic playing years not the edcation or graduation and besides student athlete can concentrate more on their studies after their last year as an athlete

  • 3 years pa ba sa NCAA si Calvin Abueva?
  • ^ yup. 3 years po. 2 more playing yrs.
  • For the Bombers!

    Apinan
    Montemayor
    Kabigting??? - Not Sure

Another Big Guys gone next year. I remember tuloy nong time nina Epondulan, Dela Rea, Fajardo, Gregorio, Capuz and Baguyo, Run and Gun tawag sa Bombers since anliliit nila at antutulin. They make it to the Finals but lost to Letran!
  • Three Chiefs will also be leaving Arellano after this season.

    Adrian Celada
    Gerald Lapuz
    Ronnel Del Rosario

Sa pagkakaalam ko mag papa draft na si Abueva sa PBA, so baka huling season na din nya ngayon sa NCAA.
  • That's what I also thought, but isn't there any restrictions that you must be in your last playing year before you could apply for the draft and actively play for your school at the same time?

SSC's Leo Najorda, Letran's Aaron Aban & Boyet Bautista, San Beda's Yousif Aljamal, Borgie Hermida, Pong Escobal, PCU's Espinas and JRU's Marvin Hayes et al. were all playing their last college year when they joined the draft in the middle of their respective last NCAA season.

If a player wants to join the draft without exhausting his playing years then it should not be done while actively playing for a college team ala UAAP style. Correct me if 'm wrong though.

BTW is Francis Dysam already playing his last year with Letran? I believe he played for Perpetual (with Misa and Bauzon) for two years before transferring to Intramorous and is currently in his 3rd year with the Knights, That makes him ineligible to play next year right?

No such restriction. So long as you meet the PBA's requirements as to age (22yo), etc., then you can apply for the draft.

Pong Escobal was still eligible to play one more year for SBC when he applied for the draft. At that time, he already earned his degree and won 3 championships in the NCAA so he (rightfully) decided to move on.
