he's about 5cm now. i feed him medaka (japanese killifish), he can hunt and consume 10 of them (same size as adult female guppy) in 5 mins.... and would want more. here's one of his feeding sessions... eating shrimp.
i used to have a newt before, nag set up ako ng bin na may water, rocks, at sponge filter. tubifex worms ang pakain ko, yun nga lang nakalimutan ko minsan takpan, nakawala, nakita ko na lang nilalanggam.

sayang. escape artists nga sila talaga. i used to have red-bellies before na naaabutan ko pang tuyo na sa sahig (but still alive). sa kalaunan, di ko na sila nakita.
me nagbebenta sa cartimar siguro mga last month, salamander daw, 1.5k e. ayoko na lang mag-alaga kasi parang sensitive daw, maski pag hahawakan natin sila, me effect daw sa skin nila yun salt sa pawis natin sa daliri. yun pacman na yan, mga 2k bentahan nila.
sometimes tempting talaga hawakan ang amphibians, especially when we want to show them off. but yes you are correct. malaki ang effect ng handling natin sa skin nila. they also breathe through their skins and kung ano man i-absorb nila mula sa skin nila'y deretso yun sa blood stream nila.
advisable to use rubber/latex gloves when handling them.
and hindi lang sila ang dehado sa handling natin, tayo rin. some amphibians have toxins sa skins nila for defense.
Gusto ko lang i-up ang thread na ito. Naiimpress ako to see that there are some pet amphibian care around the market today. Sana maayos ito at okay sa lahat.

hi. i bought it here in japan.
good thing meron sa cartimar, thanks sa info. i might get one din pag nakauwi na ako.
about red crabs... i think better research about their habitat. baka kasi hindi mai-provide yung exact na kailangan nila, magsimatay lang. sayang. i just hope they're as hardy as hermits.
