***** SUVs

Papichulo168
Simplified.
Not generalizing but how come there are some types of SUVs seemed to be preffered by *****?
Toyota Fortuner
Mitsubishi Montero
Hyundai Starex
Why the unfair observation? These are the types of cars na madalas kong nakakasabay sa gate ng ilang subdivision na pipila sa entrance na para sa mga kotseng may village sticker pero wala silang sticker. Aawayin ang guard dahil hinihingan silang mag iwan ng drivers license for a gate pass pero ayaw nilang mag iwan ng driver's license.
These are also the types of SUVs that would rudely honk their horn or bully me to the shoulder (pininahan) while biking on my mountain bike.
I swear, I have never encountered these types of bad driver behavior from higher end SUVs like Pajeros, Patrols, LandCruisers, Lexus etc. Honest to God. I also never experienced it with smaller SUVs like RAV4s, CRVs, Tucsons, Santa Fes.

Not sure I agree with you observation but it may be because higher end SUVs are less common so you have less bad experiences. Also, higher-end SUVs probably have those village stickers.
Why you have less bad experiences with smaller SUVs? I suppose the larger size of the Fortuners makes drivers want to throw their weight around.
OT: what's a polite way of asking a slow cyclist to go to the side of the road? Shouldn't they always be on the side in the first place?0 -
I was already on the side. Thats the problem with most motorists, when you occupy a full car's space, they have no choice but to follow you. When you give them the space, and stay a bicycle's space on the side of the road, that's where they will go past you so close enough to sideswipe you.
The correct way to go about it is to just tap a single quick beep on the horn "bip" (translation: "excuse me, coming through") instead of the rude "beep-beep- beep - beeeeep" (translation: "get the fuck out of the way asshole I'm an SUV!")
With constant practice you can unlearn being an asshole.0 -
I have two theories about it though...
1. The higher end SUVs get away with a lot of the things that the middle end SUVs do not. So when the middle end SUVs don't get preferrential treatment, that's when they give out the usual tantrums "hindi mo ba ako kilala?" or "anak ako ni general/councilor so and so...". The smaller SUVs don't even attempt or expect preferrential treatment and just follow the rules.
2. Some of these middle end SUV owners are nouveau riche and do not have the necessary "urbanidad" that comes along with it. They essentially pay for an SUV-looking AUV for the price of a high end AUV.0 -

It's interesting to get the cyclist's POV. IMHO, it's rude for a cyclist to stay in the middle of a lane since he's inconsiderate of all the cars who have to slow down behind him. I don't honk like crazy at cyclists but I don't think a cyclist should expect the cars to be polite when he or she is blocking a whole lane.0 -
The cyclist has no choice but to occupy the middle lane for survival. Mas tatabi ka mas malaki chances mo na sasagiin ka. Staying in the middle lane is just plain survival. As a cyclist the choice is easy, be rude or be dead/injured. For car drivers the choice is a lot harder...be late or be rude.
And nakakatawa sa mga car drivers, after being an asshole and honking his way out of the momentary delay caused by the cyclist, he's suddenly not as belligerent to his fellow cars blocking his way due to traffic. Which we cyclists mutter...
"o ano? bubusi-busina ka ipit ka din pala, ano napala mo sa busina mo? Gago."0 -

Keywords: due to traffic. I'm sure you'd hear honking if the cars are blocking others out of inconsideration.
Just to add, the reason why there's this friction between car drivers and cyclists is simply because Philippine roads were not designed to accommodate both at the same time. They were built with automobiles in mind.0 -
The point is, what's all the fuss with the honking and the rude behavior when you're still stuck in traffic? Like the few seconds you gained from bullying the cyclist can make up for the hours you lose during traffic caused by the rest of the cars.
Anyway, the topic is about ***** SUVs not ***** cars in general and their interaction with cyclists.
These DSUVs are the same SUVs I see arguing with traffic enforcers who catch them during their violations. Pag Patrol, Pajero, Expedition ang nag violate, kamot ulo na lang ang traffic enforcer. Pag Fortuner, Montero, Starex...mahabang diskusyon at pagtatalo palagi.0 -
Most of those driving SUV's are drivers, not owners. Expect rudeness from these upgraded taxi drivers. Most bicycles are not equipped with side mirrors, so better to install one. If you can, install a bosch horn just to warn the driver he is dangerously about to side swipe you. In addition, you need to be extra skillful on the road, to better help you maneuver and zig zag your way through traffic like those pizza delivery boys. It's also better to be at the side of the driver, not the passenger side because it will be unlikely that he will side swipe you on his side. So, staying in the middle of the road line might be a better option.0

Well, these are affordable vehicles made available to many, and sitting high up there does give you a false sense of pretentions. But yes, this is not a generalization to all (bato bato sa langit, matamaan huwag po magalit).
Some Fortuner guys got offended by a similar thread before in another forum. What turned me off was that instead of being proactive to help change the "observation", they added more to the fire by being reactive and even reaching an "inggit lang sila" connotation. Oh well... to each his own.
This is one reason why we still keep our 18 year old, bare bones B13 Sentra and use it quite often enough even with our other newer vehicles in the garage; it reminds us that what we are is not because of what we have or what we drive.0 -
So lumalabas mas "behaved" yung mga drivers ng Pajero, Patrol, Expedition, Lexus which have a higher probability of being chauffeur driven?0

Hi. Can you post the link of this forum about Fortuner owners? That would be an interesting read.0 -
IMHO it will depend on the driver, whether he/she is driving an old beat up car or a brand new SUV or sports car.
P.S.
If I have million of pesos to spend on a vehicle, I would rather buy a hot hatch or a sports car rather than an SUV.0 -
really? says who? and where did you learn "horn language"?
know what? you're probably no different from those guysin all likelihood you're a ***** yourself.
a very insecure one at that.
Looks like we got a butthurt ***** owner here. Not surprised. Not also surprised that you don't know courteous use of the horn. You're probably one of those d-bag Fortuner owners who put truck airhorns in their cars. Get a real SUV bro.0 -
