Things you shouldn't tell the immigration when going for a tour abroad

Do you have any tips about the things that you shouldn't tell the immigration officers for you to eventually evade from any build-up of chain questions? Is there such thing? Or you just have to answer them all honestly? I think sometimes even when you're that honest enough, you still can't avoid to blabber the things you shouldn't tell to,when the immigration officer creeps you up first. :)

Look straight in the eyes of the officer.

That's what I do everytime nasa immigration line ako, para wala masyadong tanong!

It's how you project yourself being confident and comfortable in that situation. :)

If you are not hiding anything against any immigration policy then by all means be honest otherwise, just keep quiet and try to be a good actor. Orient and practice yourself on things you need to say and anticipate the question you think the IO might ask. Of course, convincing answer should be prepared before hand and supporting documents as well.

Paano po pala pag kulang requirements like wala kang working certificate na previous or pay slips kasi dekada na yung last work mo... eh pano yan? Pang tourist lang naman di ba so ang main subject naman is kung kaya mo mag tour with money or not di ba?
  • pakwanpakwan Member PEx Rookie ⭐
Just show them your fund is suffiecient enough for your travel. or mas maganda kung may credit card ka.

Just tell the Immigration officer what Tourist should be.
know your destination, your destination requirements.
Your financial capacity to spend as tourist depending on your duration.

Minsan nagba bluff yan mga yan, kaya kelangan barahin mo rin in a nice way.

Immigration officers in the Phil are specially wary of those leaving for UAE, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries na may puwedeng trabahuhan ang Pinoy or puwede silang mag-connecting flight. From media reports, mas mahigpit sila sa Clark airport kesa sa Manila kasi hub ang KL airport to the Middle East.

So kung may travel itinerary, hotel voucher, round-trip ticket ka, usually ok na sa kanila and di ka "red-flag" type, ok na sa kanila. If asked to present money, a credit card and a reasonable amount of cash for the trip would do. Tell him/her na lang na di ka magsashopping ng todo. :)

Actually, aside from your passport, embarkation card and boarding pass, wala naman talagang 'requirements' as far as IOs are concerned. Kailangan lang naka-ready lagi ang documents mo like plane ticket, hotel voucher (if applicable), pocket money (yung sufficient amount lang) or credit card in case hingin nila.

    Going out of the Philippines:

    - plane ticket: if your return date is too far or open-ended ang ticket mo pero tourist ka lang, usually red flag sa kanila yan
Say, if you put 'businessman', minsan tinatanong nila kung anong klaseng business. I'm a CPA so yun ang inilalagay ko; lagi akong tinatanong kung saan ako CPA so I'm thinking next time, ilalagay ko na talaga 'CPA in public practice' para di na sila magtanong. :D Also, if you are a government employee at yun ang inilagay mo, hahanapan ka ng Travel Order at Approved Leave.

At Immigration counters abroad (note: I haven't been to the US so I don't know exactly what is being asked there. AFAIK mas matanong sa US immigration):

    - length of stay
    - plane ticket: again, just to check your departure date.
    - your purpose of entry to their country. For tourists, a simple, "tour/holiday" is enough unless meron kang specific purpose, mas ok na yun ang sabihin mo. Eg. "to watch a concert" or "to visit Disneyland". Wag na magbigay ng masyadong detalye at baka masilat pa.
    - optional ito pero minsan itinatanong: if you're traveling alone and if not, how many are you in the group.

Bottomline is, unless you have something to hide, there is no reason for you to be nervous when facing the IO. At kung meron ka mang itinatago, always make sure that you have prepared your answers beforehand para hindi ka na mag-iisip ng isasagot.

PS: also be aware of the amount of cash that could be taken in and out of a country as prescribed by law. ;)

His friend ask her to go to Cyprus and apply for a tourist visa. But yung requirements lang talaga dito ang problema or ewan kasi frist time niya na umalis ng bansa if ever.

Ano kaya gagawin dito kasi mukhang red flag eto. ;)

talagang red flag yan... ingat na lang. too good to be true talaga.

The truth is hindi sila magkakilala ng personal through e-mails lang and phone. Isang sikat at kilalang tao din siya in the UK i cannot tell you the details kasi hindi ko naman kakilala yun.

    Thanks for the response everyone!

It kinda made me feel more comfortable going for a tour abroad, and made me more careful enough to pick the words I should utter when talking with the IOs. It is my first time to leave the country and I'm actually a minor here(turning 18 this coming August) and we(me with my 3 adult friends) are having a trip to indochina this summer,so am I a possible "red flag" to them (knowing that it's my first time and I'm only a minor) ? Have had read some of the articles about child trafficking cases in the country and it made the IOs to be more strict in letting us leave the country.
  • harrywharryw Member PExer
@ mikeliit, you posted a simliar question on the Schenghen visa thread, but not sure if you're asking for yourself or your friend who's going to Cyprus.

Parang risky ata masyado yan.

Pag dating mo ng Cyprus limited ang assistance and resources mo to get help if you end up with a crook. You'll essentially live through him.

So, kung ako sa iyo, I wouldn't go. If the intention to bring you to the UK is honest and true, at marami syang bala sa bulsa, he can go to the Phils and apply for you there.

Maraming modus operandi dito sa UK ngayon so I would err on the side of caution if I were you.
  • mikeliitmikeliit Member PExer
@harryw thanks sa Palala yeah cautious din talaga pag ganun lalo na if first time.

Risky talaga eto kasi first time talaga eto.

Minsan if you want to achive anything in life you are willing to give everything din for that.

And to know na isa siyang Atheist.

Do you want to go home and be with you family and I will support you and send you money every month?

    or...

I will help you in everything that I can if you wish to go abroad and work here. I will provide help until you can stand on your own feet?

ano kaya pipiliin mo? Interesting di ba. At walang kapalit yun.

Pero yun lang kakatakot and sana everything will going to be alright ;)
  • pexloyalistpexloyalist Member PEx Rookie ⭐
^ If your friend wants to go abroad, let her apply the way it's regularly done, like sa POEA or employment/recruitment agencies.

I smell something fishy about that "friend"..... not to mention, how sure are you guys that the rich guy you read about is the same person na "friend" ng friend mo?

As said above, ingat lang po tayo. Wag paloloko.

May I ask, saang country ka ba naka-base?
  • mikeliitmikeliit Member PExer
@pexloyalist yep tama nga may something fishy.

Mga year 2007 na nagkakilala sila through net and 2011 na andyan parin siya helping her. Tried to search his name through google.

Kasi may mga business siya dun including the US.

@mikeliit just noticed that you repeatedly put emphasis on the being "sikat" of the friend of your friend. Hindi kaya na you are just convincing yourself to believe na genuine talaga ang tao na yun at walang masamang intentions? I have a feeling kasi na IKAW din yung friend mo. Just remember na hindi nadadaan yan sa haba ng panahon and even if the guy is being generous, its not a measure of authenticity. Btw, you only need an ID to send a western union money transfer. If I were you, I would listen sa mga advise ng mga tao dito.

Have you watched Taken (Liam Neeson)? Yun kasi pumasok sa isip ko after reading your story.

Amen to what you've said. Mike liit and her/his friend is one and the same. Just kidding. Take care always, wealth flaunted is always a cause of alarm. And of course searching your alleged friend's name in the net will show his/her name in the site. Lots of pretenders out there!
