Fiba 2010: If USA had faced Serbia and Spain?

registrantregistrant PEx Veteran ⭐⭐
I didn't expect Brazil came close. But If they had faced Serbia or Spain, it could be interesting, but sorry it didn't happen.

Turkey doesn't deserve to be in the finals. I was amazed how they got through the finals. They are nothing but tall with Hedo as their only scorer.

But their game against USA, all they do is cry to the referees. Serbia could have given them a tougher challenge.

Same deal: No team can match Team USA on Defense.

  • How can you say that Turkey didn't deserve to win? Yeah, maybe the referees helped a lot, but the team played good also (5 out of the 8 games were won by 10 points or more).

At this point all we can do is speculate. Yes, a Spain/Serbia v USA match-up could've been more interesting, but they didn't reach the finals.

What if the USA faced Spain or Serbia? USA still wins the gold. Spain was in a funk in this tournament, they couldnt get anything going. The fact that they lost 2 winnable games in the classification means they didnt deserve to be in the finals. And yeah, Rubio was a dud in the worlds.

Serbia? They were probably the 2nd best team in the tournament, but they choked against Turkey. And they got blown out in the bronze medal game.

Serbia, possible contender sa Finals even if they lose to US possible a close game

They choke the 3rd place game kasi bumaba na ang confidence nila after loosing to Turkey it could have been a foul on that alley hoop!

Then two free throws will send the Turkey wipping to the dough-outs
  • The US will beat Spain and Serbia 9 out of 10. The only hope for is to catch them Americans in that one game.
  • the US will still beat them even if the game is to be played in madrid or barcelona.
  • USA could've got a tougher time vs. Serbia because they had good big men. ESP only has Gasol (Marc) and Turkey's big men are scrubs.
  • Coulda, woulda, shoulda....we can speculate all we want. it is true that the law of transitivity doesn't necessarily apply to basketball. it is possible that spain and serbia could have given the usa a hard time but obviously they faded along the way -- against "lesser" teams at that.
all these "bigger" and "more intimidating" euro teams could have done was stay with the US toe to toe up to two quarters... and that's it.
bigger and more intimidating would eventually give way to athleticism, speed, and an unmatched superiority in transition. on top of those, this US team team knows how to DEFEND inspite of how puny its players are...an ability that even the earlier and more superior dream teams sorely lacked.
in the end, all the US really needs is a nba "b" team that thinks defense and doesn't underestimate the rest of the world....
  • matatalo lang usa kung di naglro si durant sa usa team b.

    It really happens.

Euro country vs Euro country = 7 out of 10 times were close games

Serbia and Spain lost by 2-3 points margin.

Prior to the tournament, Spain lost by 1 point to the USA in an exhibition game.

It clearly shows that USA is beatable by Spain. But Serbia of course until proven otherwise like Turkey.

matatalo lang usa kung di naglro si durant sa usa team b.

100% agree. But that is impossible haha.
  • Spain would have beaten USA had Pau Gasol been in the line-up. Remember Spain gave US a hard time in the 2008 Olympics gold medal game even with Kobe in the US line-up. But w/o Pau in FIBA, Spain proved to be only a mediocre team.

The real casualty of the victory by the NBA B team in the worlds championship is the perceived notion that there is parity in basketball between the NBA and the rest of the world. NBA is a big business and the NBA is the big financial winner with parity. The NBA has been enjoying such unprecedented popularity when the US team was struggling. It will be interesting how it will affect the income of the NBA from the rest of the world. If you think the US market can pay the Kobes, the Lebrons, et al. think again.

walang mananalo against team US noong nakaraang FIBA kasi yung magagaling na players noon eh matatanda na ngayon... boring nga yung FIBA ngayon eh walang thrill... sana di tumanda yung mga players ng argentina, lithunania (nakalimutan ko yung isa) para may challenge ulit sa US team
