Kim Hyun Joong (born June 6, 1986) is a South Korean actor and singer. He was the leader of popular boyband SS501 and a prominent style icon in Korea, winning multiple icon awards. Kim gained widespread popularity beyond Asia for his role as Yoon Ji Hoo in the 2009 smash hit drama series Boys Over Flowers.
Biography
Kim Hyun Joong debuted as the leader of SS501 in 2005. They also appeared in MNet's "Idol World" in 2007, which showed SS501 doing various missions in Japan.
He joined the cast of MBC variety reality show We Got Married on May 11, 2008, with Hwang Bo, who is 6 years his senior. They achieved high popularity acting as a newlywed couple. Due to his appearance on We Got Married, he was cast in the Korean version of Hana Yori Dango as one of the members of the famous F4. Known as the "Lettuce Couple", Kim and Hwang Bo went on to win MBC's Best Couple Award. The couple made their official exit from We Got Married on December 14, 2008 due to scheduling conflicts presented by Boys Over Flowers.
In the hit drama series, Boys Over Flowers, he plays Yoon Ji Hoo. The series was a huge media and ratings sensation in Korea during its run from January to March 2009, garnering a huge amount of popularity for the entertainer. The series was not only a hit in Korea, but all around Asia as well. This includes Taiwan and the Southeast Asian countries of Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines amongst others as well as in Japan and in North America where it was released on DVD with English subtitles.
Along with his groupmates, Kim is preparing SS501's new Korean album, for which each member will be doing a solo.
Their Asia Concert Tour began in mid-August 2009 in Seoul at the Olympic Park. They continued their tour in Shanghai, Taipei, Bangkok before returning to returning to Seoul for a closing encore concert. They staged two concerts for the encore closure on the 27th Feb and 28th Feb 2010 respectively.
On September 2009, during promotions in Japan for Boys Over Flowers, Kim Hyun Joong was diagnosed with H1N1.[1] While recovering from H1N1, Kim Hyun Joong could not attend Seoul's International Drama Awards. To accept the award on his behalf, his members of SS501 were present for the award show. He recovered from H1N1 and was discharged on September 15, 2009.
Kim has also been the spokesperson for cosmetics brand, Tony Moly, an established company with numerous branches across Korea and Asia, including Taiwan and Hong Kong.
In April 2010, Kim Hyun Joong appeared opposite Jung Ryeo Won in the music video for Korean Singer Gummy's new song As A Man (남자라서).
In June 2010, SS501 with their leader as Kim Hyun Joong released a music album titled 'Destination'. Their title song 'Love Ya' was received well, rating high in record sales and online music stores. 'Love Ya' went on to top Music Bank (TV series)'s K-Chart for two weeks.
On June 19 2010, Kim Hyun Joong appeared at a concert in the Philippines along side BEAST
On June 28 2010, It was officially announced that Kim Hyun Joong already signed a contract with Bae Yong Joon's KeyEast Entertainment company.[2]

Playful Kiss, spun from original Japanese manga, has 'finally' been made into a drama (in KR).
If you would ask why 'finally', for if you haven't known, this drama had already been made into a Japanese-version, as well as a Taiwan-version. In Japan, it was made in 1996. In Taiwan, it was made in 2005. In both the countries, when this drama was shown, it buzzed a huge bout of intense interest to it. In Taiwan-version's case, both the protagonists of this drama who has helped in shaping it a huge hit - Jung Won-chang (Joe Cheng) and Im Eui-shin (Ariel Lin) was catapulted into stardom. Not only does it stop there, right after Season One ended its runtime on the screens, without a single moment of hesitation, a Season Two was straight decided for after taking in strong demand of fans, and so holding onto that power, [Playful Kiss 2] / [It started with a kiss 2] was spun.
To round it up simply, [Playful Kiss] is a drama work which has captivated the hearts and faith of fans, and this is a known fact. If you're a fan of the originals and the adapted drama, surely you'd have much interest over this new adaption of [Playful Kiss], which will be produced by [Boys over Flowers] drama's production company -- Group Eight.
Boys over Flowers and Kim Hyun Joong
When you remake an original already-wildly-popular work into a drama, amidst the requirements that you have to consider seriously about would definitely have to be an actor who's able to bring forward the spirit in the character. Besides, since it's the manga that portrays the romance of female teens (+aunties+quite a few males), of course then, concern over the choice of protagonists burns hot and fiery. Apart from the many reasons why [Boys over Flowers] -- which was already adapted in Taiwan, Japan and finally Korea -- conquered the whole of Asia, the most apt reason would have to be 'F4', the four beautiful men who's contributed to your visual appeals and who have managed to keep to the feel in the original version. With the original author having met up with the respective chosen protagonists, not just were the best results attained, that, was also what's enough to achieve satisfaction amongst fans of the drama from every country.
He who was borne as an idol yet challenged the status as an actor in work [Boys over Flowers], by comparing him to his other colleagues, he's really considered one who's had smooth-sailing success. Well, that's because his character in [Boys over Flowers] possessed the extreme virtue ever possible, and that is none other than beauty. In [Boys over Flowers] which was produced by Group Eight, he who challenged the character "Yoon JiHoo" aptly and perfectly fitted into the fantasy world of fans of the original work and of course audiences in the visual sensation portion.
Kim Hyun Joong who has the nickname of 'walking statue' possesses an amazingly gorgeous beauty whose face could almost be only found in manhwas yet appeared in reality out in the sudden. Indeed, he's the visual attraction towards aplenty young female teens, nunas, aunties and not forgetting mothers. [Boys over Flowers] production company took hold of this opportunity and tested the reactions from fans and episode ratings by intelligently placing a change in Kim HyunJoong's hairstyle beginning somewhere in the middle of drama. In short, Kim HyunJoong was a very useful actor during the time he was shooting for [Boys over Flowers].
Playful Kiss and Kim Hyun Joong
Right after news of Kim Hyun Joong finally being chosen as male protagonist for [Playful Kiss] was out, a huge bout of concern and interest was collated. The reason why this was so is because [Playful Kiss] is already a work that's gained itself plenty of local fans, and this, makes it a sensitive issue to Kim Hyun Joong's fans. With the fact that his first work [Boys over Flowers] made such a huge success, it makes his second work all the more important. Also, his role in [Playful Kiss] is much more important than his role in [Boys over Flowers] as Yoon JiHoo.
Of course there are also other male leads, and he won't be the one male lead, but because of his character who will be one that's alot more unique and special than any other character, not only would he have to bring forward this strong presence of existence, he would also be taking the lead in the love line which's the main essence of this drama, though he's nothing like the one from F4 who loves unconditionally.
As the male lead in Taiwan-version of drama [Playful Kiss], Jung Won-chang (Joe Cheng) has gained much fame in the country (Korea) amongst chinese actors. Of course, the drama itself also gained many fans. Most of his fans liked him through the drama where he managed to surprisingly portray the character as close as the original one.
In the original manhwa, in the case of the male lead, though he doesn't pull much tension across throughout, he's a unique character who's a cold and aloof bad pretty boy, yet his bad-boy style will attract about your attention. He's just that unconventional character. Of course, the settings contribute to the success as well, because it's sticked closely to the original. The character is rich, good-looking, tall, suave, arrogant, athletic, smart - in the genius manner. Because he does so well in every thing, he's not interested in any thing around him, not only that, he has no interest towards others as well, so he has no friends. Despite feeling uncomfortable with that, he doesn't seem to feel lonely as well.
In order for the male lead to come out really well, the female lead has to be someone who's below average. If the difference between both leads in [Boys over Flowers] has to be about the financial status, then the difference in [Playful Kiss] would have to be about 'intelligence'. The female lead in [Playful Kiss] is really kind, friendly, and who has good networking with friends, but is very stupid in this and that. Therefore, the most interesting and largest conflict would have to be the presence of an intelligent genius male and a dumb plain girl. This was also similar to that in [Boys over Flowers] where it was about the story of a rich entrepreneur son and a pure country girl.
Tall and beautiful, everything athletic, a genius who gets annoyed very easily, it's obvious why fans of the original work and audiences would unrealistically want for a non-handsome to portray it. But because fans have already sufficiently enjoyed their fill from the manhwa and (already-made) dramas, they feel anticipation yet anxiety after hearing about the 'remake' of Korean version. They hope that the 'visual appeals' this time won't be all that matters, hopefully the 'visual appeals' would only act as the attraction, and fans will surely be anticipating that.

Yun Ji-hu is the most handsome member of F4 and the grandson of a former Korean president. When he was five years old, he was the sole survivor of a car accident that killed both his parents, and as a result he became withdrawn and anti-social. However when he meets his first love, Seo-hyeon, she helps him get over his difficulties. After meeting Jan-di on the staircase, Yun Ji-hu also becomes her knight in shining armor and helps her out whenever she needs it. This character likes to be alone and has a bit of a strange personality. Yun Ji-hu has a great love and talent for music, and is set to become the leader of the Suam Cultural Foundation, Suam Art Center, and Suam Orchestra.

SS501 (pronounced as Double-S 501 or Deo Beul E Seu Oh Gong Il in Korean) is a South Korean boy band under management of Daesung Entertainment, also known as DSP Entertainment. The name of the band is a combination of the alphabet and numbers that have special meanings in them. The first S stands for Super. The second S is an abbreviation for "Star". The number 5, 0, and 1 means "five members united as one forever".
History
2005-2006: Debut
SS501 debuted on June 8, 2005 with their first single "Kyeonggo" (Korean: "경고", "WARNING"), with a second single "Snow Prince" released in late 2005. The group was inactive in Korea for most of 2006, although they had a fan meeting in Japan in April.[citation needed] The reason was due to Heo Young Saeng's throat condition which required a surgery, thus resulting in a need for time to fully recover.[citation needed]. In mid-2006, they held their first concert, "Step Up Concert" in Osaka, Japan. In late 2006, they returned to Korea in order to promote their first full album, which was released on November 10 and titled S.T.01 Now. Singles from the album included "Unlock" and "Four Chance". As well as promoting the album on various variety and music shows, they also filmed a show on MNet called SOS. The group also lent their voices for the 2006 animated movie Pi's Story.
2007-2008: Japanese activities, 'Boys Over Flowers'
Later in 2007, the group debuted in the Japanese market. A Japanese fan club has been established with the name of "Triple S Japan"; it officially debuted on March 25, 2007, when SS501 had their first official meeting with the group. The group released their Japanese single "Kokoro", alongside multiple versions, including one with all members and five others featuring the members individually. The single debuted at #5 on the Oricon chart, and move to #3 the next day. A full album was released later in the year.
In 2008, SS501 returned to Korea with their single Deja Vu released on March 8, 2008. The title track was the first song to be promoted, and they started their comeback on music channel M.Net's M Countdown.[1] After success with their single "Deja Vu", they began to promote their second single, "A Song Calling For You". They performed their Goodbye Stage on Music Bank on June 6, 2008, to return to Japanese activities.
On October 2, 2008, an official announcement confirmed that leader Kim Hyun Joong was part of the cast for the Korean version of Hana Yori Dango, officially named Boys Over Flowers. It was broadcast on KBS in the first half of 2009, with a total of 25 episodes and a few special episodes.
With both Park Jung Min (Danny Park on the musical Grease) and Kim Hyun Joong on solo activities, the next SS501 album was pushed back to July 2009. As such, the other three members released a project album named U R Man in November 2008. The first single released was "U R Man". They also promoted their single for the Boys Over Flowers soundtrack, "Nae Meoriga Nabbaseo" (Korean: "내 머리가 나빠서", "Because I'm Stupid"). Due to the success of the drama, the song had a high number of downloads.
2009: Solo collection, second mini album and first Asian tour
They released their official second Japanese album on May 13, 2009 titled All My Love and had a promotional tour in Japan in support of the album. The group also released their Solo Collection, consisting of the individual members' songs.
After concentrating on their individual activities, the group made a comeback and released their second mini album titled Rebirth, with the limited edition being released on October 20, 2009[2][3] and the normal edition on 22 October. The limited special edition album included two posters and a 100 page photo diary. Their comeback song "Love Like This" was well received, winning two Music Bank awards and one Inkigayo Mutizen in November. The group ended promotions for the album on November 29, 2009.
On August 1, 2009, the group started their first Asia tour,[4] visiting Seoul, Tokyo, Taiwan, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
2010: Third Mini Album
The group held a concert in Thailand, February 2010 before holding their final concert in Seoul to conclude the tour. They were initially going to release a new mini album on May 1, 2010 (which signifies "501"), however the date was later on pushed back because of the need to "add the finishing touches."
On May 22, SS501 was one of many popular groups that performed at the 2010 Dream Concert. And being that Kim Hyun Joong was still recovering from his injuries, they only sang ballad songs, which are Only One Day and Let Me Be The One.
A day after their performance at the Dream Concert, one of their mini-album tracks, "Love Ya" was leaked on the internet. Not long afterwards, the teaser for the comeback track was released. On May 24, 2010, due to the leaks, DSP Media decided to release SS501's new mini-album, Destination online, which contains six tracks in total. Their first win for their title track "Love Ya" was during their second week of promotion in Music Bank, on June 11, 2010. They also took first place the following week. It was announced from Daesung Entertainment on June 18, 2010 that SS501 will end "Love Ya" promotions due to contract expiry with DSP on June 7, 2010.
On June 28, 2010, It was officially announced that the group's leader, Kim Hyun Joong, signed with a new entertainment(KeyEast Entertainment) Bae Yong-joon's agency to reach his goal as an actor . It is unclear if SS501 will stay as a group, or will go on with solo activities.
Artistry
Although most of their music is composed by various people, the members of SS501 have also contributed to their albums. Kim Hyung Jun and his brother, Kim Ki Bum (U-KISS) composed, under the name "H&B", the songs: "Want It", "The One", "I AM", "Hey G"[5]. Kim Hyung Jun also wrote the lyrics of the song "Obsess" in their Rebirth album. Heo Young Saeng composed his solo song "Is It Love?" and "Until Forever", one of the tracks in SS501's album Destination. Park Jung Min composed the song "Kiss" which is sung by Rainbow, he performed the song at their Persona concert.

Hyun Joong's Childhood Story (Hyun Joong mother's interview)
0-4 yrs old, as long as Hyun Joong was lost in the park, it must be because he ran to the singer performance stage.
Since Hyun Joong was born, he was very popular among the neighbours because of his big eyes, sharp intuition and cleverness.
One day, in my dream, all in a sudden, I dream of a truck fully loaded with radish driving passed me. There was a huge radish which was of the size of the truck. Withing my apron on, I ran after the truck, trying to catch the big radish. The radish rolled into my apron and I fell down onto the floor. This was the largest radish I had ever seen in my entire life. I was very surprised. Just when I tried to lift up the radish to take a look, I woke up from my dream. I felt very strange: "Is this a sign that I am pregnant?" Therefore, I went to the hospital for checkup. The doctor told me: "Congratulations!". Indeed, I was pregnant!
Hyun Joong started to walk when he was 9 month old. Before this, although he can sit alone, he couldn't climb, the family members were worried that he might be slow to learn walking. However, he omitted the climbing stage and advanced to the walking stage. All the family members were shocked.
During his 1 year old birthday, he would offer his birthday steam rice cake for the guests to eat. During the Toljabee* event, in order to let him choose the pencil and book, the family members purposely placed both items right in front of him, instead, he chose the brush which was placed beside those items. Hyun Joong started speaking and counting very fast, but he was most interested to sing, dance and play games.
(*Note: Toljabee event is used to predict the child's future. In this case, Hyun Joong picked the brush which symbolizes that he will become a scholar.)
Since being newly wed up to now, our family has been living nearby the SongpaGu Olympic park. Every weekend, there would be a lot of singers performing there. When bringing Hyun Joong and his elder brother who is 1 year older than him to the park for a stroll, both children would be very happy.
Hyun Joong even got lost a few times, I panicked and searched all over the park, eventually he was always found at the stage where the singers were performing.
Once, the dance group "Seo Tai-ji and boys" were singing 'I Know' in the park, Hyun Joong actually ran up to the stage to dance. He even played games with the other singers on stage and laughed happily. Hyun Joong was excellent in his studies, it had never come to my mind that he will become an artist. However now that I started to think, he seems to be different from other kids since childhood.

From kindergarten, Hyun Joong had shown his multiple talents. Solving math sum very fast and drew well. Also, learned to speak and recognized words very fast. His elder brother who was 1 year older than him would always sit still to learn. However, Hyun Joong was the kind of child who could play almost everything but yet could still learn well at the same time.
We were worried that both children would feel pressured from learning, therefore, we always let them get in touch with nature more often. In order to celebrate their starting of primary school life, our family went for a tour in Jeju Island. During that time Hyun Joong rode on a horse which was many times taller than him and refused to come down. Seeing this, the people around praised him for being so wonderful. During weekends, we always brought the children to fish. This is why until now, if he felt pressured from his artist work, Hyun Joong will always go fishing alone.
Starting from 2nd year of primary school, Hyun Joong became the class representative. He always handled his own things meticulously. Waking up right after his little alarm clock rang at 6am in the morning on time, completing all his home work by himself. When we visited his school, his class teacher always praised him: "Hyun Joong was very fast in learning. He would not have a problem to enroll into Seoul University."
At that time, we thought Hyun Joong would use his learning ability to be successful in his career, we had never thought that he would be an artist.
Actually, starting from 2nd to 4th year of his Primary school, Hyun Joong participated in the Mathematic Olympic Competition and he always won the Gold medal. He also always won in art competition. His medals were so many until it could fill up an entire box. His result was always ranked 1st in the class and often rank 1st or 2nd in the whole school.
To prevent him from being singled out by his friends, we also sent him for extra tuition classes to learn calligraphy and Hanja. Even in the tuition center, he was always top in the class. When still in the lower primary years, Hyun Joong already obtained the certificate for level 3 Hanja qualification examination. His tuition center teacher praised: "Hyun Joong passed the certification examination even lower secondary students found hard to pass." Our family members were also shocked.

In junior high school placement test, he was enrolled scoring the 4th highest result in the entire school. It was in his 3rd year junior high school when he announced that he wanted to be an artist. As his father was worried that he was too engrossed in his studies, he bought him a guitar to 'rest his brain', this was the trigger point for him to be an artist.
Hyun Joong started to be engrossed in guitar. Hyun Joong guitar teacher said: "He is very talented, something needed to be learned in 3 years he could master them in 3 months. His guitar teacher once advised his father to let Hyun Joong further his talent in music, but his father was strongly against it.
There after, Hyun Joong formed a band, working part time and performing outside. There's once, the neighbours said: "The day before, the child of that household was delivering fried chicken." Only then the family knew that he worked part time in fried chicken restaurant. We felt that as a man one had to be independent, it is alright to go through hardships, so we didn't stop him from working.
Hyun Joong said: "I would follow my parents' wish to study in arts high school, but I will make every other decisions in future." After joining the high school for 1 year, he voluntary dropped out from school. His father & I said: "Dropping out was your own choice, you have to be responsible for your own decision." He was given only 10 thousand won (USD7.90!) pocket money every month.
Due to Asean financial crisis, our business was affected. We started a fashion business in Dongdaemun. We had to work until 11pm everyday. After getting off from work, I often went to the TGI restaurant which my son worked to secretly watch my son working for around 1 hour before returning home.
During winter, while waiting for my son to come back home, I kept looking out for him from the window. At around 1am, looking at my son making his way through the knee height snow with much difficulties, I felt pain in my heart. In spite of that, I didn't want him to see my sorrow and always turned off the lights to pretend that everybody had fallen asleep.
After passing the trainee singer interview, my son would return home only when he was given time off. In order to be a trainee, his pocket money was always not enough. Often, he came back starving by public bus. There were many times, he didn't even have the transportation fee and had to walk home. Despite that, Hyun Joong had never once asked for money from us.
But his love for his family members is extremely deep. When his brother who was studying in America decided to dropped off from his university due to lacking of school fees, Hyun Joong told his brother: "Brother, please read this book." and gave him a novel as a present.
When his brother opened up the book to read, he found a 300 million won cheque hidden in the book. His brother gave his father a call mentioning that no matter how he counted he couldn't believe the cheque amount. It was beyond our imagination that while being a trainee singer, he could still carefully save so much money. Ever since he enrolled into the university (Kyonggi University Digital Music faculty), we never worried about him.
Both of us always told him: "Pray before doing something". Although Hyun Joong said: "Since now elder brother is serving in the army, you can rely on me. Therefore, in the future, don't work in Dongdaemum anymore." We hope that not only he can be a singer but also be able to form a family of his own and be responsible. With this, we have no other extravagant hopes.

Kim Hyun Joong is the leader and eldest member of the Korean group SS501. SS501 debuted in 2005 with their first single "Warning" but has already shot to an amazing level of popularity in Asia, boosted by the boys' talent and their charismatic personalities.
Hyun joong is one of the most popular members. Although he looks like a pretty boy, Hyun-joong has a 'tough guy' personality and is known to be very straightforward.
Besides performing with SS501, Hyun-joong has also appeared in various acting projects, such as Nonstop 5 and Can Love Be Re-feeled.
He and his SS501 members appeared in Park Kyung Lim's show Thank You For Waking Us Up and Thank You For Raising Us in 2006, where he proved to be a heavy sleeper.
He joined the cast of MBC variety reality show We Got Married on 11 May 2008, with Hwang Bo, a singer who is 6 years his senior.They achieved high popularity, garnering attention to Hyun Joong especially.
On October 2, 2008, an official announcement confirmed Hyun Joong as part of the cast of the Korean version of Hana Yori Dango (also known as Boys Before Flowers) where he will play the role of F4 member Hanazawa Rui.
According to an official from Group Eight, the production house in charge of the drama, Kim Hyun Joong was selected to play Rui or Ji Hoo in Korean version because he was deemed suited for the character. The decision was based on his performance in "We Got Married".

NR: Kim Hyun Joong, one of the top stars in Korea, who is a most talented singer while being a representative Korean actor attracting fans. In this program, entitled Kim Hyun Joong, as you are , we are going to introduce Kim Hyun Joong, as he is, who has just started new challenges.
MC: I have just arrived in Seoul. I am going to see Mr. Kim Hyun Joong. I will get out what you would like to know about him.
In Keyeast office:
MC: I have excitedly been awaiting him in his office (Keyeast) in Seoul (with a blue box in her hands). Oh, he has finally come ! (In Korean language as she speaks Korean herself) Hello ! Nice to meet you. This is a gift for you.
HJ: Thank you ! May I open it ?
MC: Yes please ! As I heard that you like football very much, I have been wondering what I should select as a gift for you. Well, I decided to choose this one.
HJ : (Finding a yellow football ball ), Wow, thank you (arigato gozaimasu in Japanese)
MC: How do you like it ?
HJ: I am very happy as I like football. It was a bit disappointing at World Cup

MC: This ball is a bit small for football, is it OK ?
HJ: (In Japanese) its fine.
MC: You speak a good Japanese, dont you ?
HJ: Yes, a little.
MC: How did you learn Japanese ?
HJ: Ah~~~~ (in Japanese) I lived in Japan for about a year.
NR: I was a bit surprised as he suddenly spoke in Japanese. Lets start an interview !
MC: In Japan, K pop is very popular now. What kind of impression did you have when you first came to Japan?
HJ: I went to Japan for the first time in 2006. We were invited for an opening event concert of a Korean cable channel ( i.e., Mnet Japan) together with many Korean singers. As many fans came to the concert, it was quickly decided to have a fan meeting for them. 1,500 people got together for us. I was so happy to know that many people support us (SS501) eventhough it was the first visit to Japan, being deeply touched by them. If I put it into another words, I felt as if we received a warm welcome from people where we had thought a desert island. That naturally made me think that I had to work harder. As I had not yet challeded for acting, I thought to elaborate our music, so that we would be able to show ourselves in a much refined way not only for Korean fans but also Japanese people.
When I had a first step in Japan to start our entertainment activities there, I had no knowledge of Katakana nor Hiragana (* both of them are Japanese charactors. There are three type of charactors in Japanese, Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana) Further, I was so buy at work, I could not stuy Japanese. In two weeks after I arrived in Japan, I only knew three words, Hello, Good morning , Good evening and Thank you .
However, since I had a Japanese friend, I learned a little by little much difficult expressions. For example, we went for drinking , and while chatting on the phone the next moring, I learned an expression I dont have a hangover anymore , and so on. I still learn Japanese not to forget it.
MC: What, do you think, is most difficult in Japanese ?
HJ: For Korean, it is quite tough to pronounce zu and tsu properly. Therefore, I had much difficulty in singing Japanese song because of the pronunciation of zutto
In Japanese lyrics, there was an expression Zutto ( i.e, forever and ever in Japanese) , I struggled with this word. Do you think that I pronounce it in a right way?
MC: Yes, you do ! I am impressed by your beautiful pronunciation.
HJ: Is that so (in Japanese) ?
MC: Could you kindly tell us about the most memorable place for you in Japan or, an episode if any ?
HJ: The place I like the best is .. where is it ? the spa town (hotsprings town) not so far from Tokyo ?
MC: Hotsprings?
HJ: Yes, hotsprings
MC: Hakone ?
HJ: (happily) Yes, I like Hakone. In addition to that, I frequently went to Harajuku branch of Jankara Ramen ( *Chinese noodles in soup) I went there almost by-weekly. Delicious ! (in Japanese)
Jankara is a sort of dialect in Kyushu, southen west part of Japan.
Ramen in Hakata city in Kyusu is famous for its white soup made out of
Pork borne. Jankara ramen is a representative brand of Hakata Ramen.
MC: Is there anything you make it sure to bring with you for work ?
HJ: I always take note PC with me, even for overseas. As I listen to music while moving from work to work, I also carry MP3 as well. I also make it sure to bring Japanese comic books which I really like. I pack into my bag about 30 comic books (for travel )
MC: I actually have been worndering whether I should bring a football ball or comic books
HJ: (with a big smile )
MC: What Japanese comic do you like ?
HJ: NARUTO
MC: Oh my god! I dont have any idea about NARUTO

HJ: Yes ( in a laugh) Naruto and One piece (* dress in Japanese)
MC: In which language do you raed One piece ? In Japanese?

MC: Oh, it has already been translated into Korean language?
HJ: Yes ( in Japanese)
MC: Well then, I will bring you a Japanese version for you the next time, please use it for your Japanese study.

MC: It means that you already have a Japanese version ?
HJ: Yes, though I dont understand at all (in Japanese)

MC: Senior Yoon JiHoo was so cool ! In acting as Yoon JiHoo, what did you think was the most difficult point for you?
HJ: The character, Yoon JiHoo was quite different from myself in reality. Therefore, in order to act as YoonJiHoo, a grandson of the former president, I corrected the way to use chopsticks. In a daily life, I stopped making fun, keeping a reticent attitude in this way. Though I was immature in acting at that time, thanks to Yoon JiHoo, I could make my first step as actor. I appreciate it.
The character, Yoon JiHoo does not express his anger, contrary to Gu Jun Pyo. Even though he is upset, Yoon JiHoo kept his temper: further, even if he feels discomfort, he remains calm. However, he was not always poker face .. Therefore, it was quite hard for me how to express his feeling inside Yoon JiHoo.
I, Kim Hyun Joong, does not neglect making best efforts. I cannot be quiet. I am always doing something. I got scared even with one week leave. Therefore, I will make myself work. Contrary to Yoon JiHoo, I easily loose my temper; I say what I want to say. I quickly solve problems on the spot. I like connecting with people.
On holidays, I always play football. If I have time, I practice with dancers, thus doing a physical exercises. Even on a bed, Im thinking of future plan; everything is connected with work. If I want to shape up my body, I play football as it works as an aerobic exercise as well. I think that my favorite is also a part of my work.
Sometimes , I take a long sleep if necessary, otherwise I only sleep four hours at most. I like getting things going based on the elaborated planning. I would like to do well both in music as well as drama. Twenty-four hours per day is not enough for me.
MC: As artist and actor, there will be some area you are particular about. Could you tell us to what kind of things you would like to stick to ?
HJ: Well, my experience in acting is only limited to Boys over Flowers . I recognized that there were too many things I lack as acor. I should say that I had gotten in acting. As singer, I would like aim the veterans level. However, as actor,
I am only a chick, which just came out of an eggshell. I would like to strive for to become an full-fledged actor as earliest as possible.
I always would like to do my best in all the dramas. I would like to be recognized as an actor who never neglects making efforts. I also hope that people would recognize me as one of the most talented singers.
Since I appeared in the drama Boys over Flowers, one year and a half have already passed. While exercising, the characters I would like to act come up to mind. For example, I think that I would like to act as car racer while driving. In this way, activities in a daily life leads me to acting. I tend to think that I would be able to adopt this part into acting, and so on. Since Boys over Flowers, I observe everything in TV, which, I should say, people watching. I watch the characteristic points of the charactors in dramas so that I can make use of them in my acting in future.
MC: Another question I would like to make is when you feel much happy during your busy life. What kind of action make you feel most happy ?
HJ: Since the debut, five years have passed. In these years, I experienced hardships and pleasure (satisfaction) in repeated times. Looking back the things which I thought painful or hard in the past, I feel now that I was happy to the contrary.
Therefore, I assume that there will be a repetition of stress and joy in future as well. I do not want to regret anything. Dramas and CD will remain forever, and that s why I would like to work so that I regret nothing in the future.
MC: Japanese fans have been looking forward to seeing you. I understand that you will be coming over to Japan very soon, right?
HJ: I plan to visit twice or three times to Japan this year. If I have a good luck, I will be able to visit more. In the past years, I went to Japan five times per year. But this year, I could not make it so far. With a good piece of work , I would like to go and see Japanese fans who have been waiting for me.
Since the debut in drama, I have a character in mind which I would like to act. That is the one who express his anger when he is upset. As I already acted the character who controlled his temper, I prefer this time a ma who is rather gross and rough.

HJ: There will be always gaps between the characters I act and myself in reality. When I appear in a film or drama, the character does not necessary be similar to myself; I act the character just as he is. To be extreme, I would challenge for even a killer.
MC: Now in a new environment, which area do you like to be challenged ?
HJ: Well, I would like to do something different from others. Though there are people who call me Hanryu star , but I do not think so myself. By making a best balance between artist as well as actor, I would like to become a top star everyone can recognize. Now it is difficult for me to realize it . However, I would like to become a star, actively working in the entire Asia as soon as possible, and somehow I would like to help people.
NR: I am much impressed by Mr. Kim Hyun Joong who seriously thinks of his future. I cannot believe that he is still twenty-four years old !
Then Ms Miyamoto (interviewer & narrator) brings the same game console as we saw in We got married which Hwanbo noona used for coupling of SS501 (Kyujung and Hyung Joon with two members of Wonder Girls.)
MC: Do you know what it is ?
HJ: Yes, I played it before.
MC: Then, you know about the rules, right ?
HJ: Yes, OK
MC: I am going to tell you why I brought this game console here. I would like to have your autograph on these cute footballs (taking out pink and yellow footballs) for fans.
If you loose, may I have your autograph on these balls?
HJ: Fine !
MC: You have just promised, right ?
HJ: Yes, I have promised ( in Japanese)
Then HJ and MC tried to decide the right of the first draw by Janken.

Eventually, HJ won the game.
MC: Sorry, I lost the game, I still would like to have your autograph on them,
plea~~~~se !
HJ pretended that he does not understand what she was talking about.
But he received the balls for autograph with a smile.
MC: He won the game, but how kind he is ! He gives his autograph !
HJ: No, I am not kind enough (he spoke again in Japanese in a laugh )
It is a job for the broadcasting (again in Japanese, a moment of glimpse of our

NR: He may have felt my enthusiastic appeal ? No, it is not true, he has already thought about the gift for audience. Therefore, he autographed so carefully on the balls.
HJ: Now these are gifts for you (in Japanese)
The shooting place shifts to the boardroom of Keyeast where HJ is having a meeting with Keyeast staff.
NR: Kim Hyun Joong, born on June 6, 1986 in Seoul (in the special municipal area), Height 182 cm. Blessed with his figure and an outstanding sense of rhythm, he has been demonstrating a great leadership in putting together the five members with much talents and originarity. In a Korean version drama, BOF, he completely acted as Yoon JiHoo, which fascinated not only Korean and Japanese fans, but also those throughout Asia. I met him for the first time today. He was very polite: to my questions, he paid full attention and consideration, answering in a very careful manner.. His pupils were so fantastic that I felt as if I would be absorbed in them.

NR: We heard from KHs two close friends some stories worth listening to:
KHJs physical trainer and a dancer (back dancer?)
1st storty from his physical trainer.
TR: I frequently make an exercise with him. One day, we started our exercise with full enthusiasm at the gym where we have a pool, many exercise machines. After a hard exercise of barbell, and running, we challenged for swimming to make 15 returns. Though we started with full energy, just after making one return in a swimming pool, we made an eye-contact, then just gave up.
2nd story from his another friend (dancer)
Dancer: Between TV and private life, HJ does not have two faces, hiding nothing. Till recently, HJ and I lived together. As I am rather timid (frighten by what ???) , HJ slept in the same room. There is a rumour that HJ does not wear anything when he sleeps. It is true! I recognized that it was not a rumour but it is a true story. Ye~, its true ! he repeatedly said in Japanese honto (=true)
NR: The next interview took place in a fashionable restaurant in Seoul. Hyun Joong ssi was so cool ! I am going to listen to more private stories, which you will know for the first time.
Q: How do you spend your time when you are not at work?
HJ: Without exercise, I feel burning with the desire for it. Therefore, I play football every Sunday. From Monday through Saturday, I make it sure to go to gym everyday. In Korea, Gym is called health .
Q: Were there anything you felt embarrassment when you came to Japan?
HJ: There are different connotations among Japanese and Korean languages. For example, I made a mistake in pronunciation; instead of saying Doryoku shimasu (make an effort), I said Noryoku shimasu . Its a mistake of pronunciation, right ? ( he confirmed with the translator next to him) I meant that I would like to make an effort, but due to the mistake in pronunciation, I actually mentioned that I will demonstrate my cabality ( though Noryuku shimasu is strange in Japanese) . At that time, it was difficult for me to recognize delicate differences in pronunciation, neither different connotations in Japanese. Therefore, I could not have a smooth communication with people. There is another story about that.
During the first visit to Japan, I asked a stylist to give my a necklace. I used a Korean word, moccoli to name necklace. Then I saw a subtle expression in her face.
* If you pronounce a necklace in Korean language in Japan, it implies erection in Japanese slang, thats why the lady was so embarrassed when he only used Korean to name necklace .
HJ: So, if you compare vocabularies among Japanese and Korean languages, it is quite interesting (sometimes embarrassing !) I was much surprised later.
MC: If I hear that word moccoli from Hyun Joong ssi, I also got embarrassed.
HJ: Ah~~~ I have another story about different expressions between the two countries. When I said I went to the health (meaning gym ) , the guy asked me from the morning? with a surprise. Well, I answered, Isnt that the place you should go in the morning ?
In Korea, we use health to mean gym, but in Japan, this health has a different connotation (i.e., the place men receives sexual services in Japan). Anyway, by these embarrassing experiences, I learned differences in culture, languages, and so on.
NR: Now we understand that he had many difficulties while he was in Japan. Before closing this interview, I would like to ask him convey his message to the audience in front of TV.
HJ: For those who are looking Kim Hyun Joong, just the way you are , did you enjoy this program though it is very short time ? Next time, see you in Japan. I will prepare a story which I hope you will enjoy, and a fantastic performance as well. You can have a high expectation ! Thank you !

'Little Yonsama' Kim Hyun Joong will be starting his official Japan activities in Bae Yong Joon's footsteps.
He will be carrying out promotional events for drama 'Boys over Flowers' for the first time after his recruitment into new agency Keyeast. Kim Hyun Joong who newly moved into Bae Yong Joon's agency company Keyeast just last month had been receiving hot attention for his affirmed potential in rising to a Hanryu star. However analyses about Kim Hyun Joong's popularity already surpassing that of Song Seung Heon and So Ji Sub's surfaces itself as well.
Keyeast personnel expressed, "Though it's true that Bae Yong Joon's fanbase has had expanded to Kim Hyun Joong too, we don't know how wide the scale is. That's why this time's Japan journey will be an important gauge for us for his future promotion activities."

Other than attending the fan meeting on 18th June and the charity concert on 19th June,
there was actually yet another important item
on Kim Hyun Joong's schedule in Manila, Philippines trip from 17th to 20th June,
that is to receive the appreciation plaque from Abiertas House of Friendship
- the charity organization that is the beneficiary of the concert-
and also to visit the children from this organization/school.
The organization had prepared it in thanks of his personal contribution of 1,000,000 pesos
(approx Chinese yuan 150,000 or USD 22,000).
Kim Hyun Joong has already visited the actual site of Abiertas House of Friendship earlier this year.
After seeing the condition of the school and the state that the children were in,
he immediately decided to make a personal contribution of 1,000,000 pesos
and this amount was transferred sometime in mid May.
The organization had immediately utilized his donation
towards building the property for their senior high/college students.
In addition, the organization will also name the said property after Kim Hyun Joong.
Further, Kim Hyun Joong had also agreed to participate in the charity concert held on 19th June,
in the hope that his influence could raise more awareness and garner more support and help
for these less privileged groups in the society, the helpless mothers and children.
As for the actual situation at this school
and also of the organization's deep love and appreciation towards Kim Hyun Joong,
and also as to what activities Kim Hyun Joong had carried out in the school on that day of visit,

Despite the heavy downpour that occurred in many parts of Metro Manila, fans trooped to the Araneta Coliseum last June 19 to watch the benefit concert of two of Koreas hottest acts.
Billed as K-pop Meets P-Pop, the concert featured boy band SS501 leader Kim Hyun Joong, otherwise known as Ji Hoo in the hit drama series Boys over Flowers, and six-member boy band BEAST.
Organized by Underwood Plan, and Viva Concerts and Events, the concert was held for the benefit of young mothers at Abiertas House of Friendship.
It was a rare opportunity for Filipino fans to meet Hyun Joong and BEAST. Days before the event, the K-pop sensations held separate meet-and-greet events for fans.
BEAST held their album signing on June 16 at SM Megamall and June 17 at SM North Edsa while Hyun Joong, who arrived in Manila last June 18, held his own meet-and-greet event for fans at Crown Plaza Hotel.
At the concert, the crowd went wild as the two Korean artists started performing some of their songs. BEAST performed their songs including Mystery, Bad Girl, and Shock. Hyung Joong, on the other hand, performed a couple of songs including Thank You and Please Be Nice to Me.
Filipino groups Pop Girls and XLR8 also performed at the concert.
For their finale number, Hyung Joong and BEAST together with Filipino children sang Heal the World.
More than seeing their idols in the two-hour concert, fans that went to the event helped the women and children of Abiertas House of Friendship, located on Boni Serrano, Quezon City, the main beneficiary of the concert.
Hyung Joong and BEASTs participation are testament to their strong desire to use their popularity for a worthy cause.
Abiertas House of Friendship was founded in 1930 and was named after Josefa Abiertas, a crusader for women and children.
The center aims to provide a home where broken lives may find wholeness of spirit and integrity and to enable women and their families to become contributing members of society.

CEBU, Philippines - Korean star Kim Hyun Joong (also known as Ji Hoo of Boys Over Flowers fame) is reportedly in Cebu for a vacation. He arrived in Cebu via the Cebu Pacific 5J 581 flight that left early afternoon from Manila last Sunday.
