Thomasians: Too much school pride, kayabangan?

I think I don't have to state the obvious on what has been happening here in PEx w/ regard to those "what have you's" from other schools.

Does our school pride has gone way too much? :)

  • I don't think it has something to do with school pride...that's what make us Thomasians.

I think its what is wrong with the Philippine Culture...crab mentality.

It's quite obvious that since we ranked Number 3 in the latest thes qs survey a lot of trolls and bashers from other schools have been hitting us. I guess some ranking conscious schools are GREEN with envy. Its kinda hard to swallow that they have been beaten and the survey and all our current achievement are attestation to the GREATNESS OF OUR INSTITUTION.

    Isa lang ang Pinagpalang Pamantasan.

sakin di ko alam, pero i think it's consuming me in a way that i almost always look down on other pamantasan as if our university is on the top of the food chain... makes me hold my tongue aaaall the time..

MODS LAGAY PO KAYO NG TROLL REPELLENT SA THREAD...

There is nothing wrong with school pride I guess, if you really have something to be proud of. Maybe it was really crab mentality which caused this too much disdain for our beloved UST here in PEX. We have lots of achievements as a university: a rich history and tradition, a beautiful campus, top perfroming school awards by the PRC, board topnotchers, CHED declared COEs and CODs, outstanding alumni both dead and alive, and yes, the most successful university in the UAAP so far.

There is nothing wrong about being proud of our achievements. Maybe the bashers and haters just can't accept that UST is really one of the best despite these objective evidences. These realities could have hurted their ego. However, while we excel in some fields like Medicine, Architecture, etc., a true Thomasian should accept the fact that UST is not yet the best university in the country.

To be fair with most of our La Sallian pexers, and also if you have tried to visit their thread regarding this recent Asian Universities ranking, some of them recognized this debacle and they want to find out what when wrong in their system causing this sudden dip in the rankings. It was a good thread, full of insight, until the trolls took over.

In my opinion, kulang nga ang pride ng mga Tomasino (both alumni and students) kaya hindi tayo nireregard as one of the best schools in the Philippines. UST is very underrated. Dito lang talaga sa PEX nagsama sama ang proud to the point na literal na nakikipag-away. Though sometimes we go beyond the line, I admit it (dito sa PEX).

    Again, it's just my opinion.

wag na lang paapekto, di naman lahat ng pinoy eh pexers...natatawa na lang ako kapag yung pangbabash nila eh halatang inis na inis sila...i mean ok sige paapekto ka, naniniwala kasi ako sa saying na "he who angers you, controls you" so since inis na inis sila sa ust...ust (or is it safe to say thomasians in general?) has control over them...hehe joke lang

  • I don't think Thomasians are mayayabang, dito lang talaga ko nakakaencounter ng ganyang tag for us, Thomasians. Sana nga the mods of PEX can do something on this sa UAAP forum at sa Academe. These fora should be avenue of rich exchange of ideas, not an avenue for fights or anything. Tama si cati_26, hayaan na lang na sila ang mag-waste ng energy, and let it pass, anyway, history itself can defend our dear alma mater from these bashers/ trolls. 400 years is not just 400 years, it is about excellence and history of quality education in the Philippines itself.
  • ok naman ang uste. as far as my observation goes, ok ang mga tao dito...
  • As i posted sa isang thread

they can throw all those tirades to UST pero as reiterated, hanggang PEX lang ang mga yan. There's no need to retaliate since at the end of the day nasa tao pa rin yan.

Well, there are really annoying thomasians pero mas maraming annoying pexers na hindi na tolerable like that of infamous Zodiac of FEU.( and all have the guts to bash UST pero wala naman pumapansin sa kanya and keeps on using UP/Ateneo to hide from his real school FEU) Para sabihin ko sa'yo, we acknowledge our school's weakness but at the same time we are trying our best to be better. And for you zodiac, with no offense meant to FEU, there's no really comparison ( UST and FEU kaya please lang)

UST is well respected not only in the Philippines but of the whole world. Just recently UST singers with their performance was met with a rousing standing ovation all over the world.

I must say, UST is hated because of its WINNING TRADITION that no other school can topple. From the most awarded salinggawi dance troupe to the UST singers, UST capturing the over all UAAP championship year after year. The famous UST womens and mens volleyball team and UST's superb performance in the board exams.

And to heck with UST's large population e kung reject ang mga taga UST e bakit #2 ang UST sa board exams according to PRc?

and to think UST has diverse courses offered. Magisip naman ng konti.

I am not a die hard thomasian dahil hindi naman ako nabubulag at nasentro lang sa UST. Yes, UST Is a great school but there are still needs to be improved) and REAL thomasians will appreciate criticisms.

Ayoko mang isipin pero INGGIT lang yan since UST has this winning tradition. Yes sanay ang UST sa mga vitories kaya sometimes we are misinterpreted as mayayabang.

Aminin niyo man o hindi, marami ang UST haters because of UST's winning tradition. Kaya hindi umuunlad ang Pilipinas e

Legally and philosophically speaking, every institution (e.g., UST) is distinct and separate from its constituents (e.g., Thomasians).

Every institution is THE collective representative of its constituents - both PAST and PRESENT.

UST, in particular, have so much past. Its STORY is our nation's HISTORY. For being with us for the past 400 years, its contributions in nation-building are simply immeasurable. This what makes every Thomasian very proud.

However, while UST is at the pedestal among Philippine institutions, SOME Thomasians do not deserved such accolade.

Some Thomasians really behave the same way the other trolls who equate UST to Thomasians.

All what I can say is that these Thomasian trolls and other trolls deserved each other. It is pitiful that UST and the institutions of the other trolls are being demeaned by reason of their constituents' shortsightedness.

Molded by UST (Pre-Law), Ateneo (Proper-Law) and by FEU (college instructor), I would say I have a personal knowledge about the greatness of these institutions and how they were recklessly demeaned by their own constituents.

    What a pity.

    Grow up.

:bop:
  • 400 years!!! is that not a good reason to be proud of???

  • Too much school pride or kayabangan. Proud to be a Thomasian.VIC. Go USTe! :)

Aba at magandang idea yan kuya joseph.

About the topic, people are used to meek Thomasians. Now that they've encountered some that will not back out (which is perceived to be highly unlikely of a Thomasian), they've automatically branded us as bragarts and airheads.

So, let them be. We know ourselves better.

    And ignore those trolls.

I think UST is underrated because 1) It accepts quite a number of students 2) The tuition is cheap compared to say DLSU & Ateneo - - hence, DLSU(which also accepts a good number of students) people think they have one over USTers because they paid more :rotflmao:

Looking back at the entrance test (years ago), I thought I was just "stupid" or "hallucinating" for thinking that the USTET was more difficult than the DLSU entrance test. One reason was - -in my "world" back then, there were only 3 "acceptable" universities - - UP, ADMU & DLSU. I took the UST because it was the only university apart from UP that offered the major I wanted to study. But yeah, looking back, I had a breeze taking the DLSU test compared to the USTET. ha ha ha.

    I passed DLSU, btw...But I opted for UST. :)

It's sad that a such an "expensive" school is falling down the ranks. Where does their money go? To cosmetic improvements rather than improving the actual system? UST's tuition is also increasing (most definitely), but they must be doing something right that their ranking improved.

I have much to say about a couple of DLSU people, but I'd rather STFU :P hahaha
