  • Legally, no. The Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice are getting stricter on employers now, who are required to show proof of eligibility to work for each employee they hire.

That said, some employers will, of course, continue to hire "illegals" on an under-the-table basis, but such employees are subject to the whims (and abuses) of management.

A way to do it legally for tourists already in the US would be to find an employer that's willing to sponsor tourists for a working visa. That costs at least $1000.
  • Looking for work is one thing...working is another matter altogether. You don't want to work in the U.S. while there on a tourist visa. Misrepresentation can result in a lifetime ban from entering the U.S.

May napanood ako sa "Citizen Pinoy" about this woman who went to the US with a tourist visa and then worked a temporary "under the table" job while she was there.
She went back home and then the next time she went to the US, she was detained at the airport and they told her they knew that she worked while holding a tourist visa last time. So ayun, they shoved her into the next available flight back to Manila, airport to airport. Banned for 10 years.
  • How about Canadian citizens who can come in and out of the US without a visa. Can they work in the USA too?
  • Canadian citizens, depending on their line of work, are eligible for TN visa.
  • What's a TN visa?
  • TN - Trade NAFTA. North America Free Trade Agreement.
    An agreement of US-Canada-Mexico.

I don't know the exact detail though.

I guess this is one of the main reasons why so many able, financially-capable, and honest pinoys who apply for a tourist visa gets denied.

And why would you want to work in the US and take 'odd' jobs? Seriously?

^Some people really want to earn dollars, even if it's only for a few weeks. Next time someone here in Pex say that they don't understand why they got denied for a tourist visa even though they have honest intentions, I guess we can just show this thread and several others. (No offense meant to the threadstarter)

  • anong klaseng odd jobs? tiga hugas ng kaldero ba yan? kung maganda status mo dyan sa pinas, wag mo na ituloy, not worth it. just know someone nadeport kasi dalang pera $300 tapos 3 months stay. wife is working here. so alam mo na ibig sabihin nun
  • may iba kasi port of entry dito na pinapakita mismo yung dala mo na pera
  • US is way overrated sa mga Pinoy sa Pinas. Ang dami kayang pinoy dito na US citizen na, hirap pa sa buhay at puro utang.

Very true. And to think, maganda na yung buhay ng friend ko sa Pinas, nag aral sya sa magagandang schools at may natapos. But no, according to her family, living in the US is still way better than anything in the Phils. kahit kita na nila na sobrang lonely na yung friend ko  Kawawa naman sya.

ganyan lang talaga, most can adjust to life in America, while others eh pang-local lang talaga

Yes. Naalala ko tuloy yung report ng ANC sa isang pinay na based sa US. Because of recession, she lost her home and was really in bad debt.

saka dapat sa mga immigrants or citizens palang for a few years dapat ipon-mode muna, wag muna kukuha ng malakihang obligations like buying a new house... dami ko kakilala hindi makabayad ng mortgage ayun forgiven nga yung utang nila pero bad credit na sila for life sa US tsk tsk
