Steve Jobs's take on life

Just wanted to share this excerpt from the 2005 Commencement Speech at Stanford University by Steve Jobs
No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

He made the speech a year after he was diagnosed with cancer and was told he has only six months to live.

If anyone truly knows what life is worth, it's the atheists. They accepted that there is an end to what we experience now. There will be no reboots and no re-evaluations. Someday it will just all disappear. Theists continually deny this.
  • theventheven Atheist!
The atheists live in their one and only life which is right here in planet earth and not elsewhere (which the people called ‘heaven’)….. the so called after-life was never been found…when you died, its finished.

A great misfortune, it is like that criminal on one side of Jesus at the cross who asked Jesus , if Jesus is God, He'll save them. Truly, we all die......compared to animals we are of higher value, we have a soul that will live forever.

Living forever is an idea that sounds really good. But like other ideas that sound good, it's not true.

Live your life like you wanted in to be. That is his message. But if the person wants to live with his/her beliefs, then I think atheist should also observed the happiness derived from having a God.

There are 2 things in our universe: (1.0) Living things and (2.0) Non-living things

Both are made-up of molecules which is made-up of atoms.

Atoms and molecules are non-living things.

But molecules can arrange into organelles.

And organelles can form into a complete CELL and when that happened, then that is the only time that these “non-living thing atoms” will start to possess “life”.

CELLS then can group and form into TISSUES

And TISSUES can form into ORGANS (like kidney, muscles, hearts, skin brain, hair…etc

And these ORGANS can form into complete HUMAN BEING.

In short, we (a human being) are simply made-up of tiny cells numbering about 10 trillion….we’re like a “host planet” to our 10 trillion cells.

By the way, many of our cells died daily: we loose “bone cells” as we grow old; we looses or cut our “hair cells”; men discharge 300 million “sperm cells” in orgasm; we scratched our skin of dead “skin cells”; “heart cells” died 1% per year.

But our cells grow, divide, multiply and produced more than those died causing population growth of our live cells and this is the reason why our body grows.

And the only cell that does not reproduced is our neuron cell. Those neuron cells that died have no replacement and so the number of our neuron cells declined as we grow old causing us to become senile and suffer memory problem.

Old ageing happened when more cells died than generated (of a new cell).

And we will die along with all our body cells. Our dead cells will then be eaten by another group of cells (cell bacteria) from the environment and so our dead body decomposed.

And when these 10 trillion cells died, we’re dead…no souls or whatever

    What about it?

Don't you find it amazing that a guy who's supposed to be Semitic is painted having Northern European features?

    Kinda racist, don't you think?

Living forever is an idea that sounds really good. But like other ideas that sound good, it's not true.

But we don't know that for sure.
In fact the only real truth there is, is that we don't know.

    The Master Does Not Know

    The seeker approached the disciple
and asked respectfully, "What is the
    meaning of human life?"

    The disciple consulted the works
    of his master and confidently
replied, "Human life is nothing but
    the expression of God's exuberance."

When the seeker addressed the master himself
    with the same question,
the master said, "I do not know."

*The seeker says, "I do not know." That takes honesty. The Master says, "I do not know." That takes a mystic's mind that knows things through non-knowing. The disciple says, "I know." That takes ignorance, in the form of borrowed knowledge.

Not everyone don't want to die.
The old people who grew tired of living wants to finally rest.
Those who suffer from physical pain every day.
Those who have nothing left to live for.
    Just saying..

"Die" is yet another word play on "Lie". Then there's the Tagalog word "libing", which is (almost) phonetically similar including spelling to "living" but with a completely opposite connotation...

"Kelan daw ang living ng patay?"
