What the heck is Jaundice?

My baby and I went to his doctor for a monthly checkup today and the doc told me he's got Jaundice but she didn't explain any further. The doc just told me it's nothing to worry about and we may go home. What's a jaundice??

    Jaundice is yellowing of the skin an/or the sclerae (the whites of the eyeballs). It's due to the accumulation of bilirubin, and may or may not be normal. Since your baby's pediatrician has checked him up and cleared him of any problem, I guess what your baby has is just physiologic jaundice in the newborn (a normal occurence in all kids).
