If Adam Sandler had produced it, he would make it rain sh!t in Mecca before it gets swallowed into the ground.

Maybe he thinks that teh Islamic landmark ain't worth the air time and effort and nobody would care if it's there or not.

WhiteHouse: whoa nelly! they blew up the whitehouse
    Statue of Liberty: awww..
    Kaaba: what's that?

Nah he's just too much of a wuss to destroy Islam's holy place of worship in his movies.

Then he goes on to say that he destroyed St Peter's Basilica because he was "against organized religion". :rotflmao:

Eh mahirap galitin mga Muslims *peace*
  • From Wikipedia's article about 2012 (film):

Although the film depicts the destruction of several major cultural and historical icons around the world, Emmerich stated that the Kaaba was also considered for selection. Kloser had reservations over including Mecca, saying he did not want a fatwā issued against him.

So in simpler terms, mahirap ngang galitin ang mga Muslim. Though na turn-off din ako sa trailer, masyadong emphasized yung disattachment ng human kay God i.e yung pagkasira ng Christ the redeemer sa Brazil, yung pag-crack ng ceiling sa Sistine Chapel which cut across the figure of Adam (man) and God sa Creation of Adam. All these scenes seemed sublime about the absence of God in the end of the world. I hope sa trailer lang yun.
  • Simple lang --- what's important for some isn't AS important for others. Looks like mas important sa kanya not to make a lot of people angry :))

Are scenes like these going to invite "interpretations" that could snowball into Da Vinci Code-style boycotts from the Catholic Church? Is Dean Devlin still involved (even as a producing capacity) with this one?

Kunsabagay, mahirap galitin mga Muslim not only because of their sheer number but also their financial clout

Also because they are more sensitive about their religion.

It really would've been fine, but Emmerich just had to blurt out that he was "against organized religion". It reeks of hypocrisy and ignorance.

Wala kasing "turn the other cheek" sa Islam eh. It's only Alahu Akhbar!

Seriously, maybe Emmerich believes that the Christian infrastructures he destroyed in the film are just symbols to Christians and the Kaaba is the real thing for muslims as far as their god is involved.
  • " mayan astronomy and modern astronomy predict that in the winter solstice dec. 21, 2012 the earth will be in exact alignment with the sun and the center of the milky way galaxy, a galactic event that takes place only once every 25,800 years... some geophysicist have a theory the effect will be devastating this phenomenon called "pole-shift" in which the entire mantle of the earth would shift in a matter of days perhaps hours, changing the position of the north and south causing world wide disaster, earth quake would rock every continent, massive tsunamis and it would be ultimate planetary catastrophe and caused of mass extinction" ... link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAtgPaggeTM

sa akin lang so biased yung movie especially yung co-writer, fatwa?!BS! So PuS$!!pwede naman sila maghire body guard sa kita palang ng movie Million $$$$ na, documentary ng history channel about pole-shifting no one will be save if this prediction will become true.

They're concerned with Dec. 12 when November 11, 2011 they should be worried about. On Nov. 11, 2011, it will rain spears. At exactly 11:11am.

    11-11-11, 11:11am

    Uulan ng sibat.

Destroying the Kaaba would not be visually awesome. It's a rectangular box. How much can you do with a box. Most audience wouldn't even know what it is. It's not worth the hassle of pissing people off.

The destruction of the Vatican (with it's dome crushing people) makes more sense visually. Most of the audience is familiar with the structure.

Even though the director didn't blow up Mecca, he did erase the Saudi peninsula from the aerial shot of the Earth at the end of the movie.

Remember they showed the 3 ships sailing for the African continent? You should see Saudi peninsula to the upper right but there is nothing but blue ocean there.

Does the three ships represent anything in human history?
  • The 3 ships represent people running away from the Twilight onslaught.
