Pba 35th Season Predictions, Previews And Insights
It is fast approaching and the new season of the PBA will begin..
What are your thoughts, predictions and insights about the coming season?
merged it with the one i've created, the one sticky
Japeth Aguilar will play for Smart-Gilas instead of PBA. Though PBA officials said it is mockery on their part, in the end Japeth will hare firearms in his arsenal when he will join the PBA in 2012.
^Let Japeth play for Smart-Gilas without any repercussions.
While a PBA draftee can sit out a season, in the case of BK this is a very frustrating development as they were figuring to build the team around Japeth.
They even turned down very interesting 3-for-1 offers from various teams. I hope BK can rebound from this loss. Maybe TNT can arrange an exchange to assuage their sister team?
Rob Reyes + Yancy De Ocampo + future draft picks for the rights to Japeth Aguilar?
I'm hoping Japeth plays great with Smart Gilas and wish Team Pilipinas all the best.

Rob Reyes is now with Barako Bulls. That would leave him out of the scene.
Note that BK's roster is already complete and has no plans of making it a 13-man lineup. Worse, Aguilar's salary on his first year is only P150k, and knowing how frugal BK is when it comes to spending for payroll, the likelihood of them getting a veteran player from TNT is highly improbable.
Yancy De Ocampo may be a good choice, although he's also quite pricey. But De Ocampo has had two stints with the Lina franchise so this may interest Lito Alvarez. The "cheapest" yet quality players from TNT would be sophomores Jared Dillinger and Jason Castro. These two, plus a future first round pick of TNT, may appease Alvarez. The problem though is if Chot Reyes would be willing to give up on his two prized second year players.
Well if the recent reports are true, no PBA team would be even close to afford and approximate Aguilar's package with Smart. Unless TNT would work out some sort of an under the table deal where Aguilar gets a huge incentive/bonus package that will not be reflected in the salary cap.
Smart Gilas will be very popular and show how the PBA what it really means to play basketball.
so that means, japeth would suit for SG this coming PBA all filipino conference?
Max for a rookie on his first year is 150k. Hopefully he gets a lifetime ban. He should have not join the draft. Plain and simple.
Pro league extends aid to 2 teams
BY NOLI CORTEZ
THE pro league is working silently to help financially-strapped member teams to get by until better times.
This was revealed by a league governor yesterday, saying all his colleagues in the PBA Board unanimously agreed to extend financial aide to struggling teams to help them at least through the Philippine Cup that ushers in the new season next month.
May papasok namang pera from (TV coveror) Solar (Sports) and other sponsors kaya we will advance yung kikitain nila to tide them over kahit na sa conference lang na parating, said the governor, who requested anonymity.
Matatagal na silang members and theyre in good standing we all agreed na tulungan sila, the source added.
The source revealed that one team has openly asked for help a few months back while the other is expected to follow suit shortly after its financial difficulties began to circulate among the team members last month.
Alam naman nating me mahihirapan talaga dahil hindi naman lahat ng produkto ng mga PBA teams nabibili off the shelf, he explained. Pero nandiyan sila because of their love for the game and the league kaya dapat talagang tulungan.
The leagues executive committee is set to convene this Thursday, to be followed by a regularly scheduled Board meeting next week.
The governor said the financial aid may be brought up. For sure, its form and finer points will be fully threshed out.
Of course, hindi naman kami pwedeng magbigay na lang ng tulong na mako-compromise naman ang liga. Kailangan talagang mag-arrive at a package na feasible to everybody concerned, he said.
He also said it has been the usual practice of the PBA Board to allot a certain amount to each team to help it through at least one conference.
For example, each team will have P10 million para meron ang ligang P100 million na makakatulong patakbuhin ang PBA for at least six months, he said.
In reality, the league is imposing a minimum salary cap per team, which is 70 percent of the maximum salary ceiling of P32 million.
The league is coming off a season in which it earned P68 million in gross from ticket sales and marketing. Each team is set to receive its share from the net earnings of the said amount.
Each team is also set to receive its share from the reported P160 million Solar is set to pay for the first year of its multi-million-peso three-year deal with the league for exclusive broadcast rights.
Talagang a-wash sa pera ang liga ngayon kaya medaling tumulong sa fellow teams na hirap, he said.
Sino kaya yung isa? Alam na natin na Red Bull yung isang team. Sta. Lucia kaya yung isa? BK?
^^ Sta.Lucia yun idol, Dennis Miranda at Dennis Espino na trade na, meron pa daw ittrade sabi
bakit nalulugi slr? mahina na ba real estate ngayon?
BK-Purefoods opens season
(The Philippine Star) Updated October 02, 2009 12:00 AM
MANILA, Philippines - Burger King and Purefoods get the honor of ushering the 35th season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) as they clash in the lone opening game of the Philippine Cup on Oct. 11 at the Araneta Coliseum.
The two teams slug it out at 6:30 p.m., shortly after the traditional colorful opening rites, highlighted by a simple tribute to the late league chairman Tony Chua of Barako Bull.
Burger King will go into the game without star forward Arwind Santos, who was traded to San Miguel. But the Whoppers will parade new acquisitions in Ronjay Buenafe and Chico Lanete.
With No. 2 rookie pick Rico Maierhofer suiting up for Purefoods, the match-up between two of the years top rookie picks will not materialize as top overall pick Japeth Aguilar still refused to sign with Burger King.
Along with the lanky, 6-foot-6 center out of De La Salle, Rafi Reavis is the other newcomer in the Giants roster along with returnee Marc Pingris.
Four more teams make their respective debuts on Oct. 14 with Alaska, last years season-opening runner-up, taking on Barako Bull in the 5 p.m. curtain-raiser, and defending Fiesta Cup champion San Miguel battling Barangay Ginebra in a rematch of last years finals.
Along with fellow off-season recruit Denok Miranda, Santos sees action for the Beermen for the first time this season. The 7:30 p.m. encounter also marks the possible return from active roster of Kings main man Mark Caguioa and new teammates Enrico Villanueva, Rich Alvarez, Paolo Bugia and Celino Cruz.
A triple-bill, meanwhile, is in store for basketball fans on Oct. 16 at the Astrodome as the RP-Smart Gilas team of Serbian coach Rajko Toroman makes its first appearance in the league opposite the Whoppers of Powerade-Team Pilipinas mentor Yeng Guiao at 2:30 p.m.
2:30 Smart Gilas vs. BK
5:00 Coke vs. SLR
7:30 TNT vs. ROS
