I don't have the time to browse all of the threads here in Arts & Literature forum so if I created a similar thread, mods and admins can delete it. :)

I am a fan of art and I want to share to you my favorite artworks made by the greatest art children of all time!

Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci (I am curious of the mysterious smile behind that girl's face. Some people said that Mona Lisa is the self-portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci, but how could it possibly be when the subject of the painting has, um, you know, breasts?)

The Rape of Europa by Titian

The Birth of Venus by Sandro Boticelli

The original fresco of The Last Supper in Santa Maria dela Grazie, Italy by Leonardo Da Vinci (When I learned about the controversy in The Da Vinci Code, I became curious with the painting. It is said that the apostle John in the painting is actually a girl and Judas is holding a knife and is planning to kill Jesus?? And what's the angle V in the painting is all about?)

The Adoration of the Magi by Sandro Boticelli

Now artsy Pexers, it's time to share yours!

I'm a big fan of Asian classical art, esp. ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock)

This one isn't Hokusai's (my favorite) but one of my favorite prints. "Musashi Miyamoto Killing a Nue" by Kuniyoshi (Utagawa)

One of my favorite Euro painters and romantic painters, this piece proves that painters understand philosophy.

'Saturn Devouring His Son' by (Francisco) Goya

My favorite of all Dutch painters, this one I started liking because I helped an old flame repaint it for her class. I like how he always have the light coming from the left, and most of his drawing have a window to the left.

"Young Woman with the Water Jug" by (Jan) Vermeer

He also created this, which is the most popular and his masterpiece, I also like but not as much

"Girl with Pearl Earrings" by Vermeer

  • Jeremy Lipking
    my current favourite artist.

^likes to draw women aye? I like the "Red Shoes" piece the most. There's a Filipino painter that he reminds me of, I can't put the name, likes to draw historical settings with oil and he always draw Filipino women.

I don't know why I like this painting much but I've liked it since I first saw on my 11th grade textbook. Yeah it's the rendition of the the Jacobin journalist, but of course rendered without his skin disease. (At least that's what I remembered from the text lol)

Death of Marat- Jacques Louis David

A big fan of Tibetan art. This one is a mandala made with sand painting (laying colored sand on a flat surface) Tibetan style. It's sick. A form of art and meditation for Tibetan monks.

  • hey F-A Soldier.
there was a time na paborito ko din si vermeer.
    very elegant lighting techniques.

by the way check out "Simon Schama's Power of Art".

^Yeah Vermeer is some kind of artist. They made a movie out of a book written for him about his life and his masterpiece, The Girl With The Pearl Earring, although it's fictional.

I will check it out thanks for the suggestion. Is it on Youtube or online?

This piece is one of my favorite from my most favorite American painter, (Frederic) Remington. This is one of my favorites, I was a Indians and Cowboy kid, who was romanticized about the American West. If you've been here, you'd know the familiarity and feeling this painting brings.

The Sistine Chapel ceiling (the one that cracked and eventually fell down in one scene in 2012).
  • ^nice. it would have been overwhelming to see that in person.
    kainggit ka naman. hehe...

This one is typical, but I love this fresco (his masterpiece) because it's Rafael's ode to the art of words and minds as he is the master of visual...both of which coincide with each other.

Raphael's Scole di Athene/School of Athens

Favorite people in the picture: Aristotle (on the blue, center under the arc), Averroe/Ibn Rushd (wearing turban lower left), and Heraclitus (based on Michael Angelo's face--leaning on tablet bottom center).

This one isn't the most famous, but I like this one best of all his paintings. This one is from the myth of his life, probably not true, greatest and last of great Roman generals (the last to receive the Roman triumph), he became symbol of martyrdom and humility of old Rome: citizen soldier.
