MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reiterated its call for the youth to register so that they can vote in the 2010 local and national elections.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said registration centers will re-open today after the Holy Week break.

Jimenez has urged the public to meditate during Lent and “pore over the chance of expressing their devotion to the country by voting in the next elections.”

The Comelec, which is holding the registration until Oct. 31, is expecting some nine million new voters to register for the coming polls.

The agency is projecting the voters’ list to swell to 50 million for next year’s elections and also expects high turnout rate due to interest stirred by the automation system.
