David James Archuleta is a Honduran American with dark brown hair and hazel eyes who was born on December 28, 1990 in Miami, Florida, USA. Critics and fans alike call him a singing prodigy due to his early development and talent in singing. When David started on Star Search, he already started showing symptoms of bronchitis, which would later lead to his vocal paralysis when he reached the age of 13 and 14. One of his vocal chords was paralyzed and underdeveloped. The doctors said he can have surgery, but it was very risky. He didnt want to take the risk because he wanted to sing. He was actually supposed to record a CD after Star Search because of his big success there, but wasnt able to due to his vocal paralysis.

Hey everyone, it's David Archuleta, and this is the first video blog I've ever done, so... [giggles] Sorry if I make a bunch of mistakes but I just wanted to thank everyone for the support you guys have given, and I just appreciate all the comments and fan letters, and things said to me in person. It's just been great to see good feedback and to know that all this hard work is worth it. And I just wanna thank you guys so much for voting and watching and everything you guys have done. I wouldn't have been here without all of you. You've definitely made this whole experience a lot of fun. I've gotten just--some crazy things sometimes in the mail, but also some really neat things. And it's just, heh--it's been great to see and get to know you guys as well when you come up on the street and stuff, so it's been--it's been great.
Life after the Finale has been pretty crazy. I had a couple days off and then we went to New York and did a bunch of press and interviews there, and it was a lot of fun. I saw a lot of you guys out there too. It was really neat to see all the signs and the--all the fans out there: Archies, Arch Angels--and that was really fun to see, and I just wanna thank you guys for coming out, it made it really exciting. Then after New York I got to go home for a week, and that was just great. Just to see all my family and spend some time with them, and to see my friends and we hung out a bunch [chuckles].
Well we're here a couple weeks before the Tour starts, and so we're starting all the rehearsals and getting back together. Fun to see everyone and catch up, see how their breaks have been. And now we're just rehearsing, and it's... fun [giggle]. It's really exciting, I mean, it's something I've never done before with all the touring stuff... all the cities we're going to. I mean, I can't believe how many we're going to and how long it's gonna be. I just can't wait, I mean all these cities I've never been to. It's gonna be fun to kinda sightsee and see everything and then [Archie swallows quite loudly, haha.] the performing part of it. You know, we're not competing against each other anymore, it's just all for fun, it's something we've all been looking forward to. It'll be fun to see the meet and greets, and see what the cities are like--it'll just be a lot of fun with that. Going to Canada for one show--that's pretty exciting, I've never been there (WHAT?! Oh, Archie, you have to visit us here now! Preferably here in VANCOUVER, since the darn Tour is going to Toronto but NOO, not here!
Well that's it! My first video blog, I hope you guys enjoyed watching it. There'll be more to come over the summer, and more things to talk about. I... hope I didn't do too bad of a job, but thanks so much you guys for watching and all for your support again. I just really appreciate that. You don't--I don't think people realize how much that kind of stuff means to us. All of us, you know--me, Cook and everyone else. We really appreciate it and just wanna thank you guys so much again. I wanna thank everyone for sending questions to my MySpace and want to get to know me. I appreciate that because some people just assume things, so hopefully these questions will straighten some things out, and I picked a few.
The first one here is from Lisa. And she asked, "Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?"
I have a dog, it's a poodle and his name's Teddy. He's a fun dog, I guess. He doesn't do too much [giggles] but he knows how to shake and dance a little bit. And then I have a gold fish and its name -- I don't know if it's a boy or a girl. Who knows. If you know how to tell, let me know. That'd be kinda nice to know, I guess. But its name is Conditioner and uh, that's kind of a long story why that works out. But, yeah, its name is Conditioner, it's about the size of my hand. It's healthy. It was nice to go back home and kinda take care of both of them [giggles then clears throat]. Pets are cool (Yes they are, David! I want a dog! sad.gif). I actually want more. I used to have cats, but I had to move and couldn't keep 'em 'cause my dad's allergic. So that was pretty sad but, you know, I love animals; can't wait to get more when I grow up.
The next question here is from Dolly. And she said, "Hi David. So we know your lovely mom is from Honduras," thanks, I think she's lovely, too, "I was just wondering if you speak Spanish."
I speak a little bit of Spanish. I wish I spoke more. It was actually my first language when I was little. But then I didn't really speak too much English to people who didn't speak Spanish, so I learned English and I guess it just didn't work out. I guess my parents kinda forgot to keep the Spanish going along with the English, so I kinda forgot quite a bit. Which is sad 'cause my whole mom's side of the family speaks Spanish. Some of them don't speak English, so the only way I can talk to them is Spanish [giggles]. But, you know, I love that culture. My mom has been great listening to that part of the music side and food. It's just great culture. I love it.
This question's from babyface04/lee(?) and they asked, "Do you work out or lift weights?" [giggles]
I... you know, I used to. I mean, I've gotten pretty flabby (HA! Yeah right, David! Flabby... PSHH!) [looks at arm] while I've been here. I haven't really had time to work out. It's kinda sad. I used to actually do cross-country but I quit because I came here. This takes a lot of your time out, and I didn't really know how long I'd be out here, and you know, made it to the Finale which is really great. I actually wanna start running again--doing push-ups and sit-ups--that's what I used to do. But... just haven't really had time. I think I'll find some time to do it now. 'Cause I love to run--it's just great. You just feel so refreshed from getting a good work out and run.

Yes, I am a runner. At least, I used to. I want to keep being a runner. Because it feels so great! I guess the endorphins (I finally figured out that he said 'endorphins'... took me hours, I was so bugged about it xD) or something. I just love it. I used to go before school. I'd wake up at like, 4:45 and just go for a run. I guess it'd be kinda dangerous but, uh [giggles]. Anyway, she also said, "If so, please tell us more about your running. You have a lot of fans who are runners and we feel connected to you in that sense," That's awesome, "And have you ever done long-distance runs?" The most I did with cross country in school was just the 5k. I always wanted to do other ones but with singing, I guess it just took most of my time. So I didn't really have any more time to concentrate on any more running. But running's definitely something I love to do. It's like a good stress-reliever, too. I just--ah! It's so nice, refreshing. Especially when I go with my friends, we all have a good time.
The next question here is from Becka(?) and she asked, "How did you do school when you were on Idol? Did you do online school or something for 3 hours and did you ever get homework at school if it was online?"
I did school online and it was called EHS and I actually moved to the American Academy. You sign up for classes online. It was really convinient because being away from school, you don't know what's going on and you don't have the teacher there to tell you, even though I had a studio teacher there with me. So, what we did for classes we'd--you know, they give you websites with the information you need to know and they have little quizzes and tests and worksheets you get to do. So it was pretty nice.
The next question is from [does quotation mark with hands] &kelly--she has a little 'and' sign before her name--she asked, "Does it bother you when people call you Archie?"
It's pretty weird when people who already know call me Archie, but people like Cook, Syesha and them, and people who work on the show who need to distinguish between the two Davids... I didn't even notice, really. But when it's someone I know--one of my friends--if they call me Archie, it's like, "Woah. Why are you calling me Archie?" [giggles] I guess it's just all a matter of how things started. With my friends they call me David, 'cause I'm the David they know. But with everyone else, Archie doesn't really bug me too much. I know they're talking about me, because usually it's like, "David!" "Which one?" That was always the kind of joke between me and Cook. It doesn't bug me too much. You can call me Archie if you want [adorably smiles].
Well I answered a few questions here for you guys, but now it's kinda my turn here. I just want to ask you guys what you guys are doing for the summer just so I can get to know you guys. Archuleta Gears Up For American Idol Tour
NEW YORK, June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- It was announced this date that American Idol sensation David Archuleta has signed to 19 Recordings/Jive Records. Archuleta is currently gearing up for the upcoming American Idol tour which kicks off on July 1st in Glendale, AZ. The 17-year old is expected to release his debut album later this year.

David: (when asked what he would change about himself) I wouldnt change anything. Even the minor things or problems are what influence who I am. David: Its fun to see the support that you get from your school and all your family, and friends, and stuff. Its really neat to see, you know, if they didnt know, so you cant tell them, so theyre all like freaking out when they even found out I auditioned, cause I didnt even tell them, and theyre all just like, Why didnt you tell us?!, you know theyre all mad at me. Thats okay, cause I think they wont mind since they especially saw me on the show, when they were always like, You should be on that show!.
David Archuleta: (about preparing for a performance) Before singing, I usually just kinda warm up, you know, just do a couple a verbal exercises, and say a prayer too. Thats really helpful.
David: Im half-Honduran, and got to go to Honduras a few years ago with my family and see my moms side of the family. I also sang at Carnaval there, a parade like Mardi Gras. Its also where my most embarrassing moment was.
David: (about American Idol) Ive definitely feel like there are things that can happen this year. And the show just opened so many doors for me and even if its not winning American Idol, you know thats what Im hoping for, but even more just hoping that I will be able to make a career.
David: (about American Idol) The greatest thing that could come out of this is to launch my singing career. You know, being able to sing and become successful has always been my dream.
David: Ive had friends from California and stuff, and when they come to Utah, there like, Its so freaky there, everyones so nice and theyll say hi to you, even though they dont know who you are, and its like Yeah, people there are friendly. Its really cool.
David: The best thing you can do to set yourself apart is just be yourself. If youre fake, you know people find out who you are later, its like Well thats not who we thought you were. Being yourself is where you feel most comfortable and people get, you know, they feel that connection the best. Thats the best way to go. You always have to be yourself.
David: (about song choices) Its always fun to take risks too with song choices and stuff, I usually try to pick a song that suits me. Ill think it through my head, its like, Ok, well, does this song fit me? Or you know, sometimes Ill want to take a risk with the song, you know its a little different but I wanna show what I can do with it and you know, if I really like the song and it doesnt match me, Ill still maybe wanna try to make it my own and give it a shot.
David: (about singing songs) If you dont connect with a song, then I dont see the point in singing it, but, you know, it at least has to be a fun song to sing and if its fun to get into it too and its a lot of fun to sing.
David: You know, I like to smile a lot, like to hang out with my friends and you know, just like to do the normal things teenagers do, you know. I am normal, believe it or not, well I guess I have to second guess that. I guess I am pretty weird, but I am a teenager. I like to do the normal, every day things
David: (about whether its intimdating being on American Idol) I havent really thought about the other singers, you know, Ive been more like Ok, what am I going to be doing you know. Cuz you have to think about how youre going to present yourself and want people, wanna show your stuff and who you are. And if you really worry about the other people, its like, well, you know, takes away who you are, you know showing your stuff and being yourself.
David (about American Idol): This is such a big opportunity for us, you know. American Idol has made tons of dreams come true and to be able to have this opportunity finally is just awesome, you know. Were all just hoping that something will come out of this for our music and performing careers and to have this chance now, its really cool.
David: You know, Ive always doubted myself about my talent. I always thought everyone was kinda tone-deaf, and theyre just trying to be nice to me coz Im little.
David: I was to sing at this charity event dinner thing and I lost my voice that night and in the middle of the song I just, I was struggling so bad and I just completely lost it and my mom came up and ran up and just grabbed the mike from me and finished the song for me and I was just like, I want to die. I was so glad my mom was there, if she wasnt there I would have probably just ran away cuz that was just, I just felt horrible about that.
David: The grossest thing Ive ever eaten was this one fish soup my grandma made and I thought it was just disgusting. I couldnt keep it down first of all and it was just nasty and I dont remember anything good about it. It might have been healthy, but its not worth that.
David: The only job I ever had was over the summer when I was at Techiat Park Amphitheatre. That was a lot of fun just cuz you got to control the sounds. I got to work with some of my good friends, which was a lot of fun.
David: My family has helped me with personally my dream by just always being there all the time, supporting me like all the way and just being good sports about it and I really appreciate that.
David: Something that surprises a lot of people is usually the music I listen to just because its so diverse and it would be like Hispanic music from my mom, you know I grew up listening to Hispanic music on my moms side and then my dad listened to Jazz music and so I grew up with that and I just love Gospel music and you know, mostly I listen to Pop, and like Pop-Rock, but soulful music cuz its just one of my favorites as well.
David: Im not really sure which American Idol contestant I would be compared to. I really liked how Elliott Yamin had a more soulful vibe to him and I can remember you know, like hed sing He sang I Dont Wanna Be by Gavin DeGraw and he just gave a lot of soul into that, I just thought that was really cool. And thats the kind of stuff Id like to do you know. You know the pop music with a little soul into it, kinda like John Mayer, you know hes awesome.
David: One of my favorite performers is Michael Jackson just because you know, hes like the king of performing, hes amazing to watch and he has amazing songs, hes awesome.
David: I wanna be the next American Idol because I just been loving music for so long. Its been-musics pretty much my life and just the power thats in music, it can do so much like it can change It can change how I feel and just how everyone Im singing to feels and how everyone just appreciates the music and stuff and uhmmm being able to do that as a career is just a dream of mine and American Idol is the best opportunity for that to happen.
David: If I dont become the next American Idol, Im going to keep on singing cuz you know, thats why Im here, I love to do it and I still wanna finish school cuz you know, thats pretty dang important, especially if this music stuff doesnt work out.
David: When I found out that I made it to the top 24 it was just one of the best feelings I had ever had. It was like I was hired or something. It was just awesome because I just always wanted to be able to make it this far in the competition and now that I finally am able to, its just an awesome feeling.
David: (when asked what other talents he has): Ive taken a little piano and have written a few songs.
David: (when asked when he started to sing): Around the age of 7, and really started performing in front of people at 10.
