I love Sydney. Enjoyed it very much with my family last year.
So many places to see and enjoy.

There is a 4 day sale on going for Holiday Inn hotels in Australia and New Zealand. I don't know if this meets your budget but give it a try

I already booked for August and saving about 50% compared to Internet rates. :)

If you're low on budget, Sydney has fantastic hostels. Among them are Wake Up!, YHA Central, YHA Railway Square, and Big Hostel where I stayed.

Sydney was really nice. The harbour, of course, is a major highlight. The best view of the harbour is along Mrs. Macquarie's Chair in the botanical gardens where you can see the Opera House and the Harbour bridge side-by-side. The botanical gardens is also well-worth the visit. There is a tour company that will let you climb up the Harbour bridge, although you can walk across the bridge for free which will give you elevated views of the Opera House. There is also a Pylon lookout on the harbour bridge. From the harbour, visit The Rocks, which is close to the harbour bridge. If I remember correctly, that is the site of the first European colony in Australia.

Nearby Darling Harbour is nice as well. It has an aquarium, and a maritime museum which is free. From here, you can walk to nearby Chinatown which is also worth a visit.

I would suggest that you take the ferry to Manly which feels like a quaint small town. Have a dip on the beach and then hike along the gorgeous coastline (the starting point is near the ferry terminal). The views are amazing.

For a more amazing view, head to Bondi Beach and hike down the coast to Bronte Beach. The views are really spectacular. Take some time to sunbathe in Bondi, Tamarama, or Bronte Beach.

If you have the time, visit Katoomba and the Blue Mountains, and see the Three Sisters. There are tour groups in Sydney that would take you there as a day trip. Better yet, why not stay overnight and do a hike.

For some nightlife, try King's Cross which can be seedy (some places). Darlinghurst also has a bustling nightlife with bars and clubs (especially gay ones LOL).

i remember i stayed in the kings cross area and from there i walked to the opera house passing by the botanical gardens. heymikey is right, the best view is from mrs. macquarie's chair.

i did not climb the harbour bridge but i walked across it and sat on the grass for a while on the other side of the harbour, facing the opera house.

i had a coffee at manly. nice place. i had a dinner at bondi. nice place too. i also went to a place overlooking the sydney skyline at night. i don't remember the name of the place but it was like a local secret place because the area looked not like a park but it was like a vacant residential lot on a hill. the view was amazing.

blue mountains area was interesting and so were the jenolan caves.

what i especially remember about sydney is that it's a very relaxing place...

Thanks for replying cxmpc, heymikey and istarbaks. Ang mura nung sa holiday inn sydney kaya lang yung travel period nila is until August 31 lang, e were planning to go there on November pa for our wedding anniversary. Sayang!!! Ano bang month ang winter sa sydney? When are you goin there? Is the Big Hostel ok? How did you make your booking? Online? Can anyone make me a suggested itineraries for five days tour in sydney? How to get there and what are the sequence of visit to save time and transportation? Medyo bitin yata yung 5 days kaya yung mga famous attractions na lang at yung must visit places nila. Thanks

sydney for me is a beautiful but boring place. there's almost no where to go at night because shops and most commercial establishments close before 6pm. by 7pm, expect to see very little people and cars outside. basta ang lungkot!

^ have you tried the theatre? plays? musicals? casino? clubs? kings cross? dining at the beach?

hindi kasi ako mahilig sa shopping kaya kung anu-anong activities ang nagagawa ko kahit sarado na mga tindahan. you only have to go to the right place.

wala namang mahirap na aplayan na visa basta meron ka lahat ng requirements, confident ka na legit ang mga documents mo, at talagang kaya mong gastusan ang vacation mo from your own money. at, ang talagang purpose mo eh yung klase nga ng visa na inaaplayan mo.

Hey there! Madali lang mag apply for an Australian visa. You just need to download and fill in the appropriate forms, compile the documents and schedule for a pick up.

Visa processing can take from 3 days to 30 days, depending on the number of visa application that they received. My sister and I traveled to Australia in December. Me in 2006, my sister in 2007. I submitted my application in early October and I was able to get my visa within 5 days. My sister submitted her application in late November, and she got her visa a month after.

The visa we were granted were valid for one year. Some visas are only for single entries, while others are for multiple entries. Each visa also vary with the number of months you can stay in Australia after each entry. May three month, six months and 1 year.

Anyway, I wrote about how I applied for my Australian visa in my blog: http://justwandering.org/index.php/2008/11/02/australian-tourist-visa-guide/

    Hope this helps :)
