    good morning guys!!!!

here's an interesting fact about Student Canteen

  • salbakuta02salbakuta02 Serious type PEx Veteran ⭐⭐
    eto pa,

Did you know na nagsama-sama ulit ang Penthouse Seven gang? :)

i saw them yesterday at SOP and Wow! ang gagaling pa rin nilang humataw

according to them, they will be having a reunion dance show at the NBC Tent in Taguig City. Noon ko pang naririnig itong show na ito (although hindi ko rin naman masyadong inabutan ito) and dito nga na-discover sina Ida Henares (one of the "bossings" ng Kapuso Network), Archie Lacson, Poncy Quirino, Gina Valenciano (kindly confirm if she is the sister of Gary.V), Ronnie Henares, Ray-An Fuentes (now a gospel singer or a pastor i guess), Sandy Hontiveros and a lady there her last name was Feliciano ( eto rin ata yung isa sa mga original female stars ng TODAS aside from Maribeth anbd Freida).

basta nakakatuwa sila. imagine after 27 years daw at ngayon lang ulit sila nagsama for this unforgettable event.

nakita ko na before sa youtube yung isa sa mga pasts episodes on Penthouse Seven

SIKAT NA SIKAT UNG STUDENT CANTEEN NUNG 1975 NA NOONTIME SHOW... SINA EDDIE ILARDE, CONEY REYES, BOBBY LEDESMA AND ***** PIMENTEL.... NAALIS SI ***** PIMENTEL, AT NAG GUEST CO HOST SI HELEN VELA (NANAY NI PRINCESS PUNZALAN) UNTIL NAGING CO HOST NA RIN SI HELEN VELA..

ISINILANG ANG EAT BULAGA NINA TVJ W/ CHIQUI HOLLMAN AS A CO HOST NUNG 1979

UMALIS SI CHIQUI SA EAT BULAGA NUNG 1981

UMALIS SA STUDENT CANTEEN SI CONEY AND HELEN NUNG 1982

PUMASOK SI CHIQUI HOLLMAN SA STUDENT CANTEEN NUNG 1982

PUMASOK SI CONEY REYES SA EAT BULAGA NUNG 1982

    SUMIKAT LALO ANG EAT BULAGA

NALAOS ANG STUDENT CANTEEN NA KAHIT ANONG REFORMAT ..HINDI NA NAKAAHON UNTIL 1986

about "student canteen"...i don't really have any memories of the GMA version (which is what most people remember) at all, kahit na lampas one year old na ako when the show went off the air...and i only have faint memories of it when it was shown on RPN after "eat bulaga" moved to ABS in 1989...all i remember was, with main hosts eddie ilarde and bobby ledesma, co-hosts nila (for the RPN version) sina atoy co, malu maglutac (who, i knew later, was one of the last co-hosts of the GMA version), jean garcia and this young lady back then by the name of cherrie pie picache...even some of the old "student canteen" clips that GMA would show as retrospective (say, for the network's anniversaries, or, in one episode of the "wanted..." election series in 2004, to profile eddie ilarde as an artista-turned-political figure) wouldn't suffice...

but with everything that i've read about the show from various magazines, it just showed na institusyon talaga ang "student canteen"...besides, just like TAPE now, program philippines, the show's production company, was a major blocktimer pala for GMA, kasi they had a big timeblock to themselves (sa tanghali, starting with "suerte sa siete" at 11:30am, then SC, then dramas like "yagit" and "chat silayan drama studio" afterwards, tapos on saturdays, "discorama" in the early-evening slot)

'yun nga lang, hindi na sila nakabawi noong naging mas competitive talaga ang "eat bulaga" at na-dethrone nila ang SC as TV's number one noontime show...

na-curious tuloy ako...what made SC (and other program philippines-produced shows) fold up from the GMA line-up in 1986? may nabasa kasi ako na one reason was because eddie ilarde left daw with the marcoses...tapos sa iba naman, sabi dahil daw sa ratings...

I think the folding up of Program Philippines was due to low ratings that time. Eddie Ilarde was not Pro Marcos and was part of the opposition together with Sen. Salonga under Liberal Party. Student Canteen was so popular just because there was no competition with other network.

In regards sa away ng APO and TVJ, it was started when APO made a song about boses hangin (as you all knew then that Bee Gees was so popular at that time) because VST & Co and Boyfriends are riding on the Bee Gees popularity and singing ala Bee Gees while APO up to this moment has not changed their style. I think napikon sila doon as Tito Sotto and Vic Sotto was part of the VST & Co. and record producer at the same time. All of them was part of Ok Lang on 13 and goes on separate ways after that incident as APO no longer showed up widening their gap.

may nakakaalam ba dito kung anung year tumagal sa ere ang OK Lang? Ang dinig ko kasi mga early 70's pa ata ito eh (1971-1974?) o nasa mid-70's na? ang alam ko na-recognize sina JDL as Tito, Vic & Joey after the Sotto Brothers accepted the offer to be the mainstays of Discorama and Student Canteen (mga 1976 daw?)

and from then on, as they say....the rest is history

parang nasa early '70s pa ito, kasi hindi na kasama yung "ok lang" when the old IBC was bought by roberto benedicto (then the owner of RPN and BBC-2) in 1975...

and speaking of the '70s, which also leads to "penthouse 7", here's an OBB of the show...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkSRRxA64Ug

    (credit: flagwavercharacter)

some notes: at the beginning of the clip, watch out for a brief split-second shot of the "penthouse 7" station bumper (with the GMA "circle 7" logo)...and for a young ida henares (nee ramos), some 30 years before she became head of GMA's artist center... *okay*

uy, jay! nice to see you here!

sino kaya sa inyong mga '70s/early '80s kids ang may mga nakaimbak pang kopya or at least nakakaalala sa TV times, that little magazine with one week's worth of TV schedules (and then some more features)? :)

    Dan,

We used to subscribe to TV Times back in the 70's and I never missed reading a copy for each week. Funny if you think about it since there were only five tv channels back then (cable tv was totally unheard of and the Far East Network or FEN was only for the privileged few who got satellite feeds from the tv coverage for Clark and Subic tenants) but it was still an interesting read.

I forgot to add Kaluskos Musmos which came out I believe every Saturdays on RPN 9. Starring a very young Maricel Soriano along with other child / teen celebrities like Herbert and Hero Bautista, Roderick Suacillo (my batchmate in elementary and high school), Maila Gumila, Dranreb Belleza, Sharon Manabat, etc. Likewise, there was the Mickey Mouse Club featured on Sundays that had Dana Plato and the young but foxy Lisa Whelchel. Whelchel eventually became part of the tv series "Facts of Life."

TV times would have probably folded up by the time i was born...but i managed to have salvaged some copies of it (from 1978) at my lola's ancestral home in laguna, and kept them (although as it turned out, kasama pala yun sa magazine collection ko na naiwan ko sa 'pinas)...plus, isa 'yun sa mga hinahanap kong bound magazines sa filipiniana periodicals section ng national library, where i would go to on a whim back in college (basta maraming free time...haha!)...

i loved reading the mag not just for the skeds, but because of the network ads on them...of course, pinakamaraming ads doon ang broadcast city stations (BBC/RPN/IBC) and GMA...

    DT,

Dobol is actually Roderick Suacillo. He's now based in the United States after working here for awhile with Pfizer Philippines. While we called him "Dobol" also before back in elementary, he's now called Derry. Kevin Delgado is the son of Marissa Delgado right? And I didn't know Lovely Rivero was part of the KM cast. Thanks for the tidbit!

And of course, the regulars - Bert Marcelo, Gary Lising, Chichay, and Estrella Kuenzler (she became popular for her portrayal as a maid at the old Flordeluna) - they provided the comic antics that were appreciated even by adults.

**** Tarang **** (My Son, My Son and later The Son of My Son) featured Pugo, Patsy, ***** (all one named comedians), plus Jay Ilagan. Other tv shows back then included Dobol Trobol, Tambakan Alley, Joey & Son (featuring Joey De Leon and an 8 year old tyke named Ian Veneracion), and Eh Kasi Babae (starring Gloria Diaz, Janice Jurado and a very sexy Debbie Miller).

Carlos De Leon is the same guy who played a gay role in Kaluskos Musmos if I'm not mistaken.
  • T A N G Tarang T A N G....

My Son My Son...(pugo Died), Son Of My Son (patsy Died)..then Pasensya Ka Hehehehe...

Ay Ung Tinutukoy Ko Si Ronald Daguio Pala....

Yah.... 2nd Batch Sina Lovely Rivero ( Gineb Macalinao, Then) W/ Christine Sta. Ana, Cheri Pie Taylo Etc...
