is it just me or is today's generation of NBA players soft?

seriously, what is up with all these injuries?

back in the 80s, you see guys like Charles Barkley, Dominique Wilkins, Karl Malone, et al, dunking and making plays with apparent disregard to their personal safety. and amazingly, none of them have sustained career threatening injuries till late in their careers.

and have you seen how they defended back then (esp. the Pistons)? they were out to injure people! with that kind of physical play, you'd expect to have superstars on the IL more often.

meanwhile, we have players getting injured while making layups or stepping on other players' feet.

so what happened?

one reason is the money they're earning. if im earning at least 10 mil a year, i'll definitely think twice about playing hurt.
  • Maybe coz the majority players today use more brawns than brains. Just a thought.
  • partly sa rules siguro.. yung handcheck.. zone defense, etc. and yes sa money na din.
  • business is business. :glee:
  • the rules, for one, of course.

another thing, players today are just plain rich, lazy, spoiled brats, sissies.

right it's in the rules, that's why they play soft and I findi it that the game is kinda slow except for suns and warriors. Advantage yun sa mga scorer like lebron, kobe, dwayne, etc. kasi kunting himas lang foul na minsan nga hindi man lang nahawakan foul na. Di kagaya dati na physical. It's like watching PBA games buti nga lang ngayon dahil mas physical na sa PBA.
  • todays players are just bigger full of air.. he he he.. joke!! rules kc yan atska masyadong malalaki at mahahaba ung contract.. gawin mong puro 2yr contract, ewan ko lng kung di magphysicalan sa loob ng court yng mga yan.. he he he.. peAcE TyO!!
  • tell that to gerald wallace!

heheh! seriously, i have to agree with the threadstarter.. i think the last one who played all out was dennis rodman..
  • because these days, ATHLETICISM is the most important. guys like charles barkley, karl malone would get dunked on by amare stoudemire, kevin garnett, shawn marion, lebron james, dwight howard and a lot more.

height and heft will be beaten by the running game of tall and athletic players of todays game. they could also play the half court game coz theyre tall enough. just look at how michael jordan dominated the game back then using athleticism. since then, the game evolved into a game of tall, athletic freaks. if MJ in his prime played the game today, he wouldnt dominate that easily.

  • Rule changes and the "tightening up" of foul calls, as ordered by Comissioner Stern.
All due to the "uglyball" era of the 90s Knicks, Heat

Yeah, atheletic and tall but lacks fundamentals. Sure it's flashy and entertaining but if they could dominate the game like that then why the hell are the americans having a hard time in international competitions where others think they're facing a much lesser ball players. Answer, because most of the players you see in NBA are good for NBA only. Where they could be pampered and scorers and star players are so talented coz the rules evolve on them.
