Is this the first time that a Playoff Team will have a losing record?

Quick question for the NBA stat mavens.

Is this the first time that a Playoff Team will have a losing record?

Seems very likely that it will happen in the East. Over the past few years parang namemeligrong mangyari ito. O baka nagyari na last year. My impression is that the last playoff team has always squeaked through with at least a 0.500 record.

Anyway, is this the first time it will happen? If not, when did it happen?

  • 1985-86 Chicago Bulls ( Jordan missed 64 games in the regular season pero nakapasok pa rin yung team nila sa playoffs)

Eto record nila 30 wins- 52 losses ( 8th seed team sa Eastern Conference)

Ito din yung year na naka score ng 63 points sa playoffs si Michael Jordan, and na swept sila ng Boston Celtics sa first round ng post season.

A playoff team with a losing record isn't rare, especially in the east. During the 03-04 season (the year of the kneejerk trades!) the Celtics and Knicks snagged the 7th and 8th seeds with slates that hovered slightly above .430
  • magulat kayo sa west, kapag ang denver nagkaroon ng 47-35 record at hindi pumasok sa playoffs!

Thanks all. So, it happened recently lang pala? I thought that those two were at 0.500 at least.

Grabe talaga sa West. Even San Antonio has been pushed down to 6th!

I think almost every season nangyayari yan. l
  • Kaya nga the playoffs need fixing eh. Imagine if example the nuggets dont make the palyoffs, edi lottery sila next year. What if nakuha pa nila ung 1st pick. That would an insane addition to an already wild WEST.

After the loss to Boston, they're 7th now. Crazy.

edit - whoops, it appears head-to-head is the first tiebreaker so yes they're 6th but tied with 7th, and only 2-3 games ahead of the 8th seed and eventually disqualification.

What, adjust the number of seeds to 10?

Pretty sure it hasn't happened frequently kasi nga inaabangan ko the past few years. Although, with 16 out of 30 teams making it to the playoffs, e malamang talagang mangyari.

I think they can't reduce the number of playoff teams at masyadong maganda talaga ang revenue sa playoffs.

Kaya pa kayang mag-increas ng number of teams?

No. The TOP 16 teams qualify.

unfair naman na an east team with a losing record can qualify for the playoffs tapos yung nasa west na mas maganda ang record, bakasyon agad.

Reggie Miller has been advocating this kinda format.
  • I think the NBA won't do the "top 16 teams in the playoffs" bit because of travel concerns. kung maraming East-West matchups sa 1st round, magastos saka time-consuming yung mga pagpalit ng homecourt.

Not only the cost. Bugbog ang katawan ng mga player sa kakatravel. As it is now, there are times when there is less than 24 hrs between games. May travel pa in between. Recently, the Spurs played in milwaukee on March 1 at 8:30 then travelled to NJ and played at 6. Talagang tulog tapoes gising at laro na lang.

Increase number of teams, ayaw niyo?
