Buying books in Amazon.com

Hi guys, anyone here who bought books in Amazon.com? How was it? Are they reliable? I never tried yet so I wanna ask.

Also, is standard delivery safe and okay? :)

ako nakapag order na ng book sa amazon at barnes and noble pareho namang ok sila. no hassle basta susundin mo lang yung tamang direction ng pag order.

I ask my brother/mother to buy books from amazon from me (I don't have credit/visa card). And yes, they are reliable even the used ones. You can even check the reputation of the seller (that is for used books). Maayos namang dumadating sa akin 'yung books. ;)

i'm assuming you live in the philippines. yep they're ok. i've bought my review books from amazon and they were shipped to the local post office. they'd send a note for you to pick up your shipment. just be prepared to be taxed a lot, almost 20-25% of the total price.

Ive ordered several times. Never been taxed. Baka sinuwerte lang. One time the book did not arrive on time. I complained and then they sent another one. Kaso lang the first one arrived a few days later. I tried to tell them to stop the shipment of the second one but they had sent it na. So, compliments na lang daw. How's that for service? :)

bakit sa inyo pinapick up pa sa post office? sakin direcho sa bahay na dumadating dala nga lang ng postman pero no added tax na binayaran, same goes with some books i ordered from barnes and noble

i had a similar experience when i was still in pinas, but i ordered CDs not books. i complained about undelivered CD and amazon immediately replied and sent a second one through FedEx. a week after the 2nd shipment, i got the first one. when i e-mailed them, sabi donate na lang daw to a public library.

sa post office din ang pick up ng orders ko and i had to pay pero minimal, less than 10 pesos yata.

i used to order books at the book-of-the-month club. same deal, post office pick up then pay minimal fee per package.

Amazon is the best! Not sure where you from but in the US, they are one of the best e-tailers, IMHO.

I checked the shipping rates on their website. $4.99 per book + $4.99 per shipment? Totoo ba to?
  • Our faculty member in the US buys books from Amazon from us. Then he sends them in Balikbayan boxes.

Una, may nakausap akong lalaki.

Tsk.

^Yup, they put tax once you exceeded the $50 limit when you purchase something outside the country. Kahit i-courier mo pa yan or yung door-to-door, mahohold pa rin yan.

Ganoon talaga. I live in Europe and when I want some books or DVDs that aren't available here, I buy them from Amazon.com.

One way to get around it is to have the stuff sent to a friend or relative in the US, then have them send it to you declared as a gift (mas maganda siguro kung ilipat nila sa ibang box).
