    haay..:rotflmao:

If you want to work and legally stay in the US, you must possess a working visa (H1 visa) or a green card (permanent visa). Do NOT ever make the mistake of entering the US with a tourist visa then vavooom.... disappear and hide.

malaki man ang sweldo sa US, mahal naman ang mga bilihin, mahal ang renta, mahal ang insurance, etc etc.

    re: wazdog's bus comment
  • alex_rainalex_rain Member PExer
    some parts from the article:

Depends on where you go in the US. Some places are clean, some places are so ghetto that it will remind you of some places here in the Philippines.

But you have to take the US in perspective. Technically if you already have a good life here in the Philippines, then you already have it much better than the life in the US. But if you're not well off here but hardworking, than if you go to the US, it may spell a better life for you.

In the US, you earn dollar but spend dollar so one needs to stop thinking of the exchange rate. You need to build credit report however if you have no credit history, it may be difficult to get a credit card at first. Uncle Sam takes a chunk out of your salary. The higher your salary, the higher your taxes. When I was based there, I used to be tax free because I worked in a multilateral agency till I transferred to a US company. Yep they gave me a higher salary all right but I was taking home significantly less then what I used to make tax free. So it sucked. I was paying a fortune in rent because no bank would give me a 5%-10% down for a condo, I had to pay minimum 30% down because I was a foreigner so paying that huge amount was out of the question.

Healthcare in the US is obscenely expensive. Unless you have insurance, do not get sick in the US. Heck even, the co-pay was expensive. I once had to get an allergy shot (claritin was not over the counter during that time), if I didn't have insurance, I had to pay $500 for the shot and $2000 for the ER fee but I still have to fork over a $200 co-pay. My husband, had to be rushed to the hospital once and for an overnight stay, his bill amounted to over $10,000. Imagine if he didn't have insurance. There's just no socialized healthcare there. Also if you get sick often, your insurance premiums get higher and higher.

My husband is not pinoy and was raised in the US. He actually hates it in the US. When he got the chance to be based here to the Philippines, he took it. Though he hates the corruption and traffic here, he actually likes our current standard of living here better than the US. He says here he is living a lifestyle which will take him years to pay off in the US. We have a maid, yaya, car and townhouse. Food is cheaper, healthcare is cheaper and we can afford more luxuries than when we were than in the US. It's easier to raise a family and the values are much better. Plus we need not worry about leaving our son at day care when my family is nearby especially my mom is around to willingly watch over our son. Plus we have more time. We both felt that we didn't have much time for other things in the US, siyempre you have to do everything yourself (cook, clean, laundry etc).

I enjoyed my stay in the US. I was based there for almost 5 years. I've lived the "American dream" but frankly I like it better here, the US just wasn't for me. :)

I just buy a one month bus pass para one to sawa ang sakay.

At least me opportunity ka magtrabaho.

First, I will do some research. I mean, when I started working in 2003 I was paid $10/hr, eh dati pa yon. Meron din kasing gusto mag-show off kahit di kaya.

Tama sya dito. Pero kinontra nya sarili nya when he said:

And you can actually buy a pre-owned car which is a heck of a lot cheaper. Ang sasakyan namin parehong used nung binili kaya wala kaming binabayara every month. But then I guess I'm lucky kasi mekaniko ang jowa ko. He has access to auction companies and knows the lemons from the good ones.

Gaano kaya sya kalakas kumain?

They should have interviewed a better, intelligent person sa news article na yan.

Para kasing pang talipapa ang dating eh. Sa GMA pa naman galing which is a major news group in the Philippines. Nasaan ang responsibilidad? Hindi balance. Nakakabobo.

i think we don't have to take the interview word for word. of course there are some other options but he was only trying to point out the main point that life in the us is not as heavenly as what most pinoys in pinas think.

The life in USA is hard similar to Philippines. They don't have a good health care system. The minimum wage is $5 per hour. People pay huge amount of money for taxes.

I agree to Talisa M. I rather migrate to Canada than USA, Canadian government will give you support such as health care, financial needs and etc.

By the way Talisa M. I am an Canadian Citizen and in the same time Australian Citizen. The reason I left Canad is the coldness lol, especially in winter, the temp is -20 degrees.

    Where in Canada are you?
  • rave81rave81 Member PExer
Another thing, in USA there are beggars while in Australia and Canada you won't see them because in those countries they don't have poor people especially here in Australia blue-collar workers can afford to buy big houses and luxury cars.
