movies by Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Rushmore)

jay, the only one i didn't see was Missing.

Here are a few more titles.

Brazil (very orwellian film from terry gilliam)
Ghost Dog (forest whitaker as a samurai warrior. i kid you not!)
Starship Troopers (i don't know why people don't like this flick)
  • I forgot to recommend 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' although some people probably won't consider that as an "overlooked film".
  • movies by Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Rushmore)

Yeah, I wanted to see it (I even created a thread about it here) but couldn't find it in the theaters near me.
  • In The Company of Men is nasty fun. I like his Nurse Betty much better though.

    Some recommendations:
Harold and Maude - if you hated Ruth Gordon's character in Rosemary's Baby, you'll be surprised here.
Being There - fish out of water tale (sort of like Gump but with sly understated humor)
Brassed Off / Little Voice / Waking Ned Devine - if you like British films like Billy Elliott, Full Monty, Englishman Who Came Up a Hill...
Cold Comfort Farm - Kate Beckinsale early in her career in a quirky little film. Don't remember much except that I had a crush on her. Hehe.
Topsy Turvy - I like Mike Leigh better here than in his dramas. Gilbert and Sulivan on film. Great great music here.
Withnail and I - down on their luck actors get tired of the city and take a trip to the country. Buddy picture with lots of booze and cursing.
Third Miracle - pang holy week. It's one of those films that gets you from the opening scene.
Will think of some more later.

I guess Heathers can be considered an overlooked film.
  • Across the Universe
    Boondock Saints
Casino - Classic De Niro/Pesci gangster film
    City of God
    Dog Day Afternoon
    Ferris Buellers Day Off
    Full Metal Jacket
    No Country for Old Men
    Requiem for a Dream
    The Fountain

I recommend you watch Casino or Trainspotting first

    already did.

Another title: Big Trouble in Little China
by john carpenter starring kurt russell and kim "sex and the city" catrall.

anybody remember this title. what a fun film. i wonder if it looks dated na since 1986 pa it.
  • Agree on Casino, and I think The King of Comedy is overlooked as well.

    A few more additions:
The Paper - great movie with a great cast
Searching For Bobby Fischer - involving father and son drama, and exciting chess film to boot. Made by the guy who wrote Schindler's List.
Punchline - about the inner lives of stand-up comics. Some of jokes were still sharp last time I saw this. Tom Hanks and Sally Field play love interests.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - one of my favorite comedies
12:01 - a lighter version of Groundhog Day
    You Can Count On Me
    Fabulous Baker Boys
    Citizen X
    Secret of Roan Inish
