Comments

  • an A6 is similar to a BMW 5 series.
i would get one if i could afford. LoL.

also, be sure to be willing to spend good money for maintenance and service and parts. :)

audi's a good car. no doubt about it.

It's pricey but the diesel version's pretty good I hear.

Top Gear Philippines had it tested against the BMW 5-series diesel a few months back, and the A6 more than held its own against the more recognizable (but funnier-looking) car from Munich.

...but beware, the reviews there all too biased and obviously favor luxury and expensive sports cars, but ain't got nothing solid and informative to say about them and the others. Too biased against Kia's and too worshipping with Ferrari's.
  • who wouldn't worship a ferrari? i'm an Anti Tifosi. and yet i see a Ferrari, my jaw drops still. :)
  • i suggest you dont get a diesel engine for either the bmw and audi or even a benz. the quaility of diesel fuel in the philippines is a lot lower than the standards in europe, where those cars are tested and made. in the long run it might be damaging to your engine and your pocket.however bmw, audi or benz............ you cant go wrong with benz.

You mention the big three German brands potentially having problems with the quality of local diesel...but you overlooked Toyota's own CRDi engines fouling up on bad-quality diesel from far-flung places.

How "tolerant" a common-rail diesel engine is of high-sulfur diesel like ours is dependent on who made the fuel system for the engine.

Anyway, valid point. I'm just pointing out it's not exclusive to Benz/Audi/BMW.

Was it covetousness that I was feeling whenever I saw the red Ferrari and dark blue Lamby in the ADB Avenue showroom? Hardly noticed the Volvo C90 and Peugeot sedans and hatchbacks beside it. And even if the red car's engine burned spontaneously on the south expressway, they remain awesome and profoundly desirable. :)

But i've yet to hear any major problems with the Hyundai CRDI engines.

coveting is bad. admiring a piece of work of art, however, is just the right thing to do. :) ofcourse,. they're profoundly desirable..

nothing can be better than a Scarlett Red Car born from the asphalts of Fiorano. :)

I know. Like I said, it depends who makes the fuelling system. :)

Hyundai's/Kia's is supposedly made by Bosch...CMIIW

Yup... Bosch. How about the Audi diesels? The Toyota's D4D pumps were made by some manufacturer in Indonesia or Thailand i think... even with good fuel the one on my tito's Innova had hard starting problems before and a calibration shop i talked some time ago also had a lot of cases with the 2.5L D4D engine before. I don't know if they solved the problem now.

The A6 diesel looks sweet but the price is much more than the gas versions it seems but i if had the cash, i would go for th diesel (torque!). If you're a bit worried then going for an A6 with the V6 gas engine is a route to take... heck if one can afford the price of an Audi then the gas price should not be much of an issue. :)

I wonder if Biodiesel blends would help in the fuel quality issue for such engines. I had good results with better consumption, emissions and performance-wise when i used BioD on my pick-up before.

    RS4?

To get back to topic...Car and Driver had a US long-term test on an A6 3.2 FSI, a 2005 model.

You might want to read this for ideas on how the car will hold up in the long run.

    Last night I got to ride in a friend's A6 3.0TDI Quattro, a 2006 model.

It's very roomy inside---just as what you'd expect of a car costing PhP4-5 million, but it's a strict four-seater due to the tall transmission floor hump and the hard plastic in the middle of the rear bench. That's where the rear armrest goes after all.

It's got a lot of toys, as expected also. It's a lot of car to drive around, and just sitting in the co-pilot's seat will tell you that much. It's hard to judge where the front end stops, though it's much easier compared to some other cars and their broad dashboards (e.g. the FD Civic). There's a very effective parking assist system though. My friend says it's actually easier to park the A6 backwards than forwards into the slot.

When cruising the A6 is in its element. However, a spasm of the right foot kicks the engine to life and presses you back against the seat with a solid wall of torque and acceleration. When driving the A6 TDI, I suggest you pull out BEFORE you nail the gas pedal. Otherwise anything in front of the car will definitely become a very expensive hood ornament.

    Color me impressed.
