Overpricing Of Casa

Do you actually know the price of your vehicle's parts or accessories?
Anyhow, I was actually a victim of CASA overpricing. Here is my story. My side mirror (just the glass) got destroyed so I needed to replace it. I went to Mitsubishi near Valle Verde. Then the rep there told me first that the price of a side mirror glass was P2300. Since I was clueless with the price, I said ok. Then the next thing, he told me that there was no available at the moment so he needed to order from a supplier. Then he changed the price to P1100, suppliers price.
When my side mirror glass arrived, he was then asking me for P800 service charge because my side mirror needed to be configured, I assumed, electronically since he was asking for a hefty amount. I was really surprised when technician just pushed the side mirror glass to my side mirror without any extra equipment. He just used his hands.
Right now, I really dont want to go back to Mitsubishi near Valle Verde because of this experience. I also want to complain the rep who was overpricing me. Anyhow, do you know a Mitsubishi CASA which has fair price near Pasig area?:(

dyan kasi kumikita mga casa eh.
their profit margin in auto sales is razor thin that's why they pad the prices of their car's spare parts (but sometimes its cheaper to get spare parts in the casa as opposed to getting them from your friendly neighborhood auto supply suki) and "overcharge" their clients (buti din sana kung A1 ang quality ng trabaho parati) when they have their car/s serviced at the casa.
kaya what i do when looking for spare parts is to consult other people in the know (through internet forums and friends) to give me an idea on how much that needed part will generally cost and then canvass around my suking auto supply shops and then compare it to the casa price. after gathering all the info, i finally decide where to buy the darn thing.:)
but of course, if the car is still under warranty, then you better stick it out w/ the casa lest they void its warranty.0 -
Let me share my own experience.
Due to unfortunate circumstances, my Jazz's right side mirror glass got shattered about a month ago. I retained the plastic frame for the glass, however.
Like you, I was wary of high casa pricing so I went to Evangelista. Essentially they suggested remounting the frame with a new mirror cut out of generic glass. PhP600.
I agreed, but immediately regretted because the way the makeshift side mirror glass acts, it's as if you're wearing glasses each time you're looking at it. The image isn't progressive. We take side mirrors for granted but replacing it with just anything won't do.
I called up Honda Makati and immediately ordered a genuine side mirror element. After a week, I got it and had it installed for free.
So how much did the real thing cost from the casa? The genuine side mirror element cost me just PhP450, and it works great.

I still go to the CASA, especially if the car is under warranty but I would usually canvass between several dealerships first on their regular service parts. It pays to keep numbers of several independent auto suppliers for your parts needs as you can canvass (sometimes the CASA is more expensive on parts, sometimes not, as shun experienced). I used to buy parts from outside and bring it to the CASA which is okay usually except some have already charged a corkage fee for bringing own parts... I never went back to them anymore bec there are still other dealerships more willing to help you.
But outside of warranty i go to a independent service shop/auto supply except during the major service stops and if i want some CPU readouts done.0 -
When the ambulance I use got its side mirrors stolen, we ordered a pair from Toyota at around Php2k/ea side.
Then they wanted to charge more to have installed. I figure if a thief can take them out in 1 minute, I could probably install them in five.
So I installed the mirrors myself while we were on standby at the ER. It was damn easy despite the larger mirror element of the Hiace Grandia GL.
Casa prices are usually 'set' prices meaning that's what they charge everyone. So don't think they just wanted to trip on you that's why they charged you that much. If you think they are overcharging, they will just show you their price books or look it up on the computer to see how much they really charge for the service. Anyhow, they did not force you to avail of the service. It's just like buying your Php170.00 coffee from Starbucks. It's overpriced but I don't see anyone calling the manager.
It's always a good idea to shop around. Even just asking around at internet forums before letting go of your cash. Yes, some parts can be more expensive when bought outside. OEM Suzuki parts are notoriously expensive in Banawe, and are actually cheaper when you get them from the dealership. Nissan Sentra Exalta center wheel caps cost Php150 from those hawkers in Banawe but costs only Php90.00 from the Nissan dealer (brand new pa as opposed to 'surplus' from Banawe).0 -

I agree with this kasi ganito din ang ginagawa ko. Hindi ka naman puwede magreklamo just based on 'overcharging' kasi you're always free to canvass first, di ba? You can even inspect first yung hindi original parts.
Mahirap lang dun kung nanakaw ang side mirror mo -- baka nakaw din mabili mo! In this case, I usually opt for new, generic ones.0
