At the end of the day it will all depend on how you take care of your car in general....

From experience... engine-wise, no. As mentioned, it all boils down to maintenance.

There were some models with auto-tranny problems like the mid 90's Galant but other then that, engine reliability is at par with Toyota-Mitsu-Nissan-Honda.

driver/owner ang dapat sisihin.. unless clear cut factory defect un
  • just look at all the PAJEROs and BOX TYPEs and the 92 Model Lancers still on the road.

    still wanna question the reliability?

anyway, kapit bahay namin is 89- 92 Lancer owner. and still works like mint.

There is one Mitsubishi engine that will debunk that claim: the 4D56 diesel. This lump, both in normally aspirated and turbo form, was used in just about everything Mitsubishi, from L300s to L200s to first-generation Pajeros to passenger jeeps.

And many of them are STILL running. Don't tell me you don't see 1991 Pajeros still puttering about.

I suggest you drop that notion. Mitsubishi may be in bad financial health, but at this point the reliability of its engines can NEVER be doubted.
  • ako naka tried and tested mitsu.

Yep, if you've been following car business news, Mitsubishi's last 10 years have been difficult due to the botched tie-up with what used to be DaimlerChrysler.

They're on the road to recovery now, but they're really pinning their hopes on the 2008 Lancer to get them "back in the black."

mitsu kasi is a zaibatsu. meaning hindi lang isang klaseng negosyo ang hawak nito. marami silang ibat ibang binebenta at ginagawa. halimbawa na yung jet plane nila, meron ding mitsu heavy industries, mitsu elevators, kaya minsan napapabayaan ang isang negosyo nila.

the 08 lancer looks sooooo good. i've been more excited with it than the mazda 3 "new look"

well said, nagcoconcentrate kasi sila sa heavy industries.

may alam ba kyo na mabibilan ng mirage (GSR US version)
as in gsr na gsr, nakalagay lang sa likod mirage.
  • to answer the question, nope, mitsu engines are reliable, and that is based on personal experience.

OT: i'm excited about the new lancer too, parang evo, hehe.

Iba ang usual na reklamo sa Mitsubishi. Hindi makina, kundi kalampag sa suspension/underchassis.

we had a mitsu before. the 95 TDIC paj. engine needed to be overhauled after 5years. engine and turbo is leaking oil. but that was after crossing deep floods, and had not having regular PMS. sayang i didn't know anything about maintenance back then.

It still all boils down to the owner and the driver.

Our 1994 Galant VR is still running very well up to now (and we've had this since it was brand new). We've overhauled the suspension already, changed the T-belt, water pump, some bearings and the head gaskets, recently changed the compressor (which gave way after 14 years) and one of the sensors... same thing done on any old Corolla or Civic...

    Balance between

Quality control of manufacturer / Assembly Plant

    Attitude/ Discipline of Driver/ Owner

Ideal factor sa Car durability & efficiency...

14 years?! Wow, factory parts pa. Ang tibay ah :)

About the bearings...were these wheel bearings or crankshaft bearings?
