what's the my best value at 100k? — PinoyExchange

what's the my best value at 100k?

I have a similar thread at the classifieds section when I recall that we have a subforum for car enthusiasts in here...

My question is- should i have 100k pesos, what kind of car would be best value for my money? Care to give your suggestions? And which medium can i find such cars?

Thanks!

  • 100 doesnt buy you squat in this day and age anymore.

maybe a BOXTYPE Lancer, or a Liftback Corolla. and that's it

and to push it some more, maybe a 1.5Liter 89 corolla.
  • Get a Kia Pride.
  • kia pride or daihatsu charade. kahit nissan sentra na 1.3 di kaya ng 100k.
  • ^ thanks but i am not after a brand new car obviously
  • 1989 16-valve Toyota Corolla GL

Please don't pick this blue one. There are better colors like white and red. ;)

This car is fast (it can match other newer models when it comes to speed) and stylish in your price range. The downslide is that it eats up a lot of gas.

You can also check a 1990 Nissan Sentra but I'd still pick the '89 Corolla over this. The '90 Sentra is heavy.
  • Remember to set aside some of the budget for repairs, at least 1/4. Take the sellers blurbs of "sasakyan na lang" w/ a grain of salt.

My dad just bought a '72 (I think it was a '72) W115 Mercedes Benz 200 A/T for Php70k. The vehicle has been newly overhauled by a competent shop (kilala din namin yung shop), a/c blows cold, interior is mostly original. Former owner had receipts of work done on the car as well as the original owner's manual and original brochure from the Mercedes Benz dealer.

Right now, it's being given a paint job (change color to ivory because its the same color as my dad's gray '65 W108).

Maintenance on these old school Benzes are cheap (I drive a '75 300D), they ride like luxury cars (because they are) and they look cool. They're also not prone to theft. About the only thing expensive on these things is repairing crash damage (cosmetic/trim parts are expensive and rare). Otherwise the drivetrain is bulletproof. Benzes were also ahead of their time. 4 wheel disc brakes, seatbelts, crumple zones, central locking, etc. Things that don't even come standard in some 'modern' cars today.

For me its a good value because the engine is in top condition and the rest of the vehicle is in good condition as well. The former owner seems to have taken care of the unit. And if you're not happy with the car, you can sell it immediately at the same price (or even higher) than your initial purchase price. The rate of depreciation of old Benzes is as slow as a glacier. Some models even appreciate over time.

Just go with whatever floats your boat.

there are beautiful and roadworthy volkswagen beetles that can be had for less than 100k. you just have to sift through websites such as tsikot.com, autoindustriya, volkswagen club, etc to find and satisfy your need and pleasure

I suggest that you wait and save a bit more til you can reach around Php 140k. There are a lot more choices with that much money than Php 100k, a good example would be a 93 Galant VR and a 94 Corolla XE.

Php70k for the car. The change color is being done by a mid-level shop. Final figures are not out. But a tab of around Php20k+ is expected. Also planning to get a new radio (something that plays MP3 or iPod compatible). I'd rather have a well cared for (weekend car) but older Benz than a newer but used-as-pang-harabas Corolla/Sentra/insert-name-of-jap-car-here.

Volkswagen Beetles are also good (no shortage of parts, cheap maintenance, slow depreciation). We used to have one. My only gripe would be that there are no back doors and the accomodations are a bit on the austere side (metal dashboard, somewhat short on legroom, etc.). And their tiny engines may test the patience of some (not me) drivers.

Our former VW also had an aftermarket a/c system. :)

  • OTEP, your 75 300D, is it the US version or local version? I'm also thinking of getting any 123, but prefer 300D Turbo Diesel US version, in the future.

My ninong just sold his 260E 124 with just 54k original kms for only 200k. My dad wouldn't let me have it otherwise i'f be the happiest kid in town. hehe
  • "^ thanks but i am not after a brand new car obviously"

He's not talking about a brand new car.

    :)
  • hmm... get a Daewoo Racer. For around 70k, you can get a fully functional (no repairs needed) that's already automatic transmission, with AC, and nice interior/exterior. Spend the remaining money to "pimp" it. LOL

How much is a trueno nowadays?
  • ganoon lang kamura ang daewoo racer na second hand? P 70K!

alam ko nissan lec around 70-80k meron na

The W123 is German (German owner's manual included). Supposed to be an ex-diplomatic vehicle for the United Nations (at least according to previous owner). It's a plain jane unit with cloth seats (originally), crank windows, and no sunroof. It did have power steering and vacuum locks.
